amrithk··on Which text editor do you use? (Launched new site. Interested to get comments)
Good tip. We should probably look into that.
amrithk··on Venture capital goes short-term
I was puzzled by that heading as well.
amrithk··on Java in College: "You might as well be teaching Chinese to a monkey."
Recursion for me. I still grapple with it sometimes.

I agree with you. I started my CompSci degree a few years ago without any programming experience. The first intro-class was quite challenging as I had never programmed before. It took me a while to get used to the quirks but I became better after sufficient practice. Like anything else, programmers only get good after they have put in the hours to learn programming and the programming language. Its like music or sports or even academics. Practice makes perfect.
amrithk··on Job Interview Questions That Mean You’re Not Getting Hired…And One That Means You Are
Great post. I have been asked the same questions in many of my interviews before.
amrithk··on Could VC be a Casualty of the Recession?
Perhaps we could see co-investments or investment pools by several VCs.
amrithk··on Tell HN: If you haven't got your YC email, check your Spam folder
We got a question about our application last week. We didn't make the cut.
amrithk··on Ask HN: Keep cash positions in different currencies?
In fact, the yen and the dollar have been rising in recent weeks. The Pound and the Euro have taken a beating.Hard to say what might happen to the Chinese RMB as the rate is set within a narrow band by the Chinese govt.
amrithk··on Facebook in a crowd
Thats interesting. By that token, Facebook or other social networks are in some ways, restricted by what they can do because of the way people use the network
amrithk··on Charting Library (PHP)
amcharts.com is great. They have really good customizable flash charts and I believe they have PHP support as well. We code in PHP and we are very satisfied with their charting tools
amrithk··on Facebook in a crowd
Perhaps it is true that people don't take invites on facebook seriously as they can see the list of people. If there are too many people invited, they might not feel obligated to respond. What if you had a dedicated invite service and you could not observe the number of people coming (say to a dinner or a party etc). Would you feel more obliged to respond?
amrithk··on Funny loading statements to keep users amused
That's creative.
amrithk··on YC got a record number of applications this cycle
We spent a few weeks before the deadline editing and re-editing our application. We only submitted it a day before it was due.

Perhaps there were many groups like us who had thought about applying a while and spent time editing their application before sending in the last few days.

amrithk··on YC got a record number of applications this cycle
Congratulations on moving forward. Are you bootstrapping your operations?
amrithk··on Start-Ups Give Idaho an Identity Beyond Potatoes
Yeah. I didn't know myself. Its just the perception that Idaho is a potato state.
amrithk··on Ask HN: Demotivated Founder With Lost Passion Seeking Advice
If you can, try taking some time off. Travel somewhere. Do not think about your work for a week or two. That gives you really good perspective.
amrithk··on What you can do with a rice-cooker - How a simple tool has been adapted in many ways
Hah. Interesting. Thanks
amrithk··on How to get into the Hottest Restaurants in Town
Agree with you. Interesting to see what a little self-confidence thus even if you don't feel great inside.
amrithk··on Ask HN: Free dataset of IP and location?
Maxmind comes to mind. They have a free solution with paid packages that offer additional features.
amrithk··on Infographic on the process (and time) of legal immigation to the US
Good One!! I am on H1-B at the moment. I really understand it.
amrithk··on WaMu Fails. First major comercial bank to go.
The branches are being acquired by Chase. Perhaps the interest rates may be similar to what Chase offers.
amrithk··on Review our Startup - we launched hoodiepeople.com today - let us know what you think
Interesting niche. I think it would work really well in the college market. A lot of student groups make and give out hoodies to people. If there was a service where they could design their hoodie and get it from you guys, that would be attractive to them.
amrithk··on Detailed summary of MIT's OCW course "Introduction to Algorithms", part VI: Search Trees
I remember this being a pretty difficult course. Might be good to refresh some of this. Thanks for sharing.
amrithk··on Ask HN: how to push to a live site?
Hi, Would you be able to share some of the books and links on the internet you have been reading that describes how to scale web services?
amrithk··on "A New Kind of Venture Capitalist Makes Small Bets on Young Firms"
Its impressive how they manage to juggle between nurturing entrepreneurs while still meeting their responsibilities to investors. Its a tough balancing act and a model worth studying more.
amrithk··on P2P insurance question, need to interview for an entrepreneurship class
Thats interesting.

I would say something like the credit-default swap market where you have individuals or institutions agreeing to insure new and existing debt. As we have seen, it would be a mess unless the P2P insurance company maintained a registry recording the transactions entered by the various parties.

amrithk··on Ask HN: Are there any Good Movies about StartUps?
There's an interesting series on Hulu.com called Startup Junkies. It's about a startup called Earth Class mail. There are only about 7-8 episodes on it but I found it to be very interesting
amrithk··on Ask YC: Single founder company with prototype, how do I improve my odds of being accepted.
Interesting to see the comments. We are in the same boat as well. We are a team of three people but two are on H1-B visas and cannot quit their jobs (otherwise they'll have to leave within 2 weeks). Anyone in a similar boat?
amrithk··on Rate/Review my startup - Bionic Books
I think this is a pretty good idea. There's certainly a market out there for easy-to-use accounting services. You can get a sizeable revenue stream by offering some kind of consulting service where you help small organizations with their accounting tasks.

Only thing is there may be a problem getting people to store information about their businesses etc online.

amrithk··on Hey HN NYC, interested in a meetup this weekend?
My name is Amrith. I would be interested in joining as well. Is this still on?
