andrejguran··on Approval given for first human spinal cord repair using the patient's own cells
Reminds me of this research: https://kclpure.kcl.ac.uk/portal/en/publications/enrichment-... Amazing how far we managed to get in less than 3 years!
andrejguran··on Apple denies App Store profit margin is 75% – claims to have no clue
they could still calculate their profit margin: cost to build all their free SDK / profit from app store. Seems quite simple. Why would you believe them that they are not able to perform this calculation?
andrejguran··on Kamal Proxy – A minimal HTTP proxy for zero-downtime deployments
Migrations have to be backwards compatible so the DB schema can serve both versions of the app. It's an extra price to pay for having ZDD or rolling deployments and something to keep in mind. But it's generally done by all the larger companies
andrejguran··on Half-Ass It
I think the author was trying to point out that one way to triage or to identify what actually are the essential requirements is to half-ass it and see the results.
andrejguran··on Show HN: I built a social experiment to test your curiosity
Reminds me of: https://www.howmanypeoplepaidadollartoseehowmanypeoplepaidad...
andrejguran··on Llama 3 Running on iPhone
It's okay to skip the typing. The video has 25 seconds of which 16seconds are someone typing a question.
andrejguran··on Working-age death rate 2.5x higher in the US than other countries. Why?
the answer is in the article
andrejguran··on The App Store, Spotify, and Europe's thriving digital music market
The press release somehow forgot to touch the core of the fine: apple customers paid higher subscription fee for apple music than they would for Spotify because it's against app store policy to inform that Spotify has a cheaper subscription if they don't want to pay apple 30% cut...
andrejguran··on Bard is now Gemini, and we’re rolling out a mobile app and Gemini Advanced

andrejguran··on Bard is now Gemini, and we’re rolling out a mobile app and Gemini Advanced
same, got redirected to https://gemini.google.com/ with weird title: "Error 404 (Not Found)!!1"
andrejguran··on Y Combinator CEO Garry Tan's online rant spurs threats to supes, police reports
“Garry Tan is right!” the letter sent to Peskin, Preston and, perhaps, others read. “I wish a slow and painful death for you and your loved ones.” Bizarrely, the letter to Preston and Peskin concluded: “This mail was sent to communicate a political opinion. No threats were intended.”
andrejguran··on Sam Altman, Greg Brockman and others to join Microsoft
the last one in your list
andrejguran··on Real-Time Latent Consistency Model
impressive progress, although it's still not real time enough and the frames change too much to be considered smooth.
andrejguran··on Snapdragon Oryon, faster than Apple's M2 chip at 30% less power
Very excited about the AI stats: 7B model running 30 tokens/ second, 13B+ parameters running on device, first token in 2.2sec. It seems we'll have more powerful AI models running on devices soon.
andrejguran··on Gaza hospital: What video, pictures and other evidence tell us about blast
His website says he works for the prime minister: https://www.hnaftali.com/
andrejguran··on Gaza hospital: What video, pictures and other evidence tell us about blast
What might add a lot of fuel to the flame is Israel's spokesperson initially confirming it was Isreal in a tweet he later deleted: https://twitter.com/HananyaNaftali/status/171440059899126196...
andrejguran··on SQL db as cache – 2x faster* requests vs. Redis

andrejguran··on Hackers claim vast access to Western Digital systems

andrejguran··on Rice fuels diabetes and climate crises

andrejguran··on Utah parent says the Bible contains porn and should be removed from schools
Well, well, well. How the turntables...
andrejguran··on Twitter’s $42k-per-month API prices out nearly everyone
doesn't have to be free but with every increase there will be less research that can afford to pay for the data and with the proposed pricing of $500.000 for 0.3% of tweets it seems that no-one will be willing to pay the price
andrejguran··on WhatsApp would not remove end-to-end encryption for UK law, says chief
doesn't have to be neat chart but you kinda quantified one side: 99% of people will be hugely inconvenienced by weakened security. Now the question is how much child suffering is worth to inconvenient 99% of people? Let's say it would be 1 child that could be saved would you say it's worth the inconvenience? What if it's 2,10,100,1000? I am genuinely curious where would you draw the line (And that line is your neat chart with numbers)?
andrejguran··on WhatsApp would not remove end-to-end encryption for UK law, says chief
I disagree that it will be nothing. It will be something larger than 0. First question is how to predict the impact. But more interestingly when we have the impact analysis how to quantify the suffering that will be reduced in comparison with reducing security and how to quantify even that and put these into comparison. (Again I am not on either side just pointing how hard it is to quantify these things)
andrejguran··on WhatsApp would not remove end-to-end encryption for UK law, says chief
That's a very good question: how to quantify child suffering to one of the worst crimes imaginable? I am not saying I am for or against. I am just trying to point how really difficult is to quantify both sides of the equation.
andrejguran··on How to Beat Russia [pdf]
I disagree because russia showed it's very weak militarily. So weak that it caught by surprise everyone. Again we have the opposite problem and that's for Ukraine not winning too fast and that's why NATO is suppling weapons very carefully and slowly. You said that we're pushing boundaries but I see it as pushing boundaries centimeter by centimeter while being miles away from what you call a larger war. So in conclusion there won't be much larger war simply because there is no larger enemy.
