Apple’s changes amount to what the gambling industry has done to acknowledge and address gambling addiction: displaying pamphlets around casinos and suggesting that problem gamblers opt-in to a self-exclusion list. Helpful for some but doesn't change anything about the environment, which has little protections from products that are expertly engineered to get and keep you addicted.

There should be developer API’s for this. The lack of API’s and the fact Apple thinks three product changes alone can solve a complex social problem speaks to how simplistically they are treating the issue. It’s a positive step forward, and necessary, but we should be able to bring an ecosystem approach to solving what many of us consider the biggest socio-technical problem today.

We also let you select apps that may interrupt you during Tempo (Settings > Control notifications). We need to do a better job of making users aware of this.

Moment is great! Android gives devs the freedom to be so much more than just a self control app - we can reimagine the interface from scratch.

We'd love to be on iOS, but b/c of strict permissions we are unable to do the majority of what we have built in the beta so far. A number of our users have actually switched from iOS to Android, not just for Siempo but also for apps that let you set SMS autoresponders, block apps with geofencing, and other cool things that won't be possible unless Apple radically changes their interface or permissions.

Andrew from Siempo here - with optimizations in an upcoming release we will no longer need to ask for this permission.

You're barking up our tree! Having experimented with many of those strategies too, we believe the best solution is to change the menu altogether.

We're working on a minimalist phone to help you disconnect and be more focused, through an intentionally limited feature set and smarter notification management. All the utilitarian tools you need to navigate 2016, none of the slot machines.
