anonfunction··on Teslasuit – full body haptic VR suit
I'm interested in how the "weight simulation" works.
anonfunction··on Turning brain signals into useful information
I once met an ex-apple engineer who created a hat that would read your thoughts and play the song you were thinking about. It only worked for certain people and had a limited playlist to choose from but it was really cool watching your "brainwaves" on a screen and then thinking "Daft Punk Get Lucky" and having it play on the speakers.

I don't think it is so clear cut, there are certainly violent mentally ill people who don't use substances. Alternatively there are addicts who are very kind.
anonfunction··on Introducing Preemptible GPUs
You’ll need at least some more components to run your GPU like a CPU, motherboard, etc... not to mention a reliable network, power and other ancillary services.

The real power of cloud is not a replacement of one instance but the ability to turn on tens, hundreds or even thousands of nodes.

There is a strong correlation between mental illness and substance abuse.

I'm wondering how this is relevant, when I looked at the wiki article[1] it seems to be about delayed gratification.

So I guess you don't believe in "unconditional love"?

I just can't imagine not loving my kids even if I knew I could not trust them. Another example would be family with mental illness to such a degree you may actually fear they will kill you in your sleep, but hopefully they would be placed in a safer environment and still have their families love and support.

anonfunction··on Common Gotchas in Go
Or pass it into the func, especially if its running in a goroutine.

    for _, ele := range eles { go func(ele string) { // use ele }(ele) }
anonfunction··on So Close
That’s an interesting definition of love. May I ask if you have kids?

For me, love is multi-faceted and can’t be defined as a single attribute like trust. People love food that literally kills them. You don’t always get to choose whom or what you love.

anonfunction··on Ethereum Foundation Releases Alpha Casper Proof of Stake Testnet

First, you will need to have enough testnet ETH to become a validator.
    ...
Replacing 2000 with whatever amount of ETH you want to deposit (min 1500).
Is this minimum just for the Testnet or ingrained into the final spec?
anonfunction··on San Francisco’s Skyline, Now Inescapably Transformed by Tech
Wow, I look at the building everyday but this is the first I've seen it from that vantage point. Thanks for sharing.

Found another photo that is a little closer:

If you look at the tallest buildings they all have unique designs.

Though it has little bearing on your point, many people including myself do not possess the ability to "imagine a photo". It is known as aphantasia and Blake Ross has a great article[1] on the subject.

anonfunction··on Show HN: Automatic Highlight Reel Maker
We trained it on a large dataset of gifs created by our users. The first thing the AI does is break the video into scenes and then scores them based on how similar they are to the gifs int the training set. We then take the top scored scenes and put them in the highlight reel.

The machine learning neural network is loosely based on https://people.ee.ethz.ch/~gyglim/video2gif_cvp16.pdf

anonfunction··on Gofpdf: Generate PDFs from Go with No Dependencies
It's not a Go program but Microsoft Office or Apple's equivalent can make "professional looking" reports you can export to PDF. You could also use Photoshop if you want to be more creative or LaTeX if you're going for a minimalistic look.
anonfunction··on From Markdown to remote code execution in Atom
I like to use both, depending on what I'm working on. If I'm writing code then a vim / tmux combo can be great but if you're editing markdown or an html / css website having the live preview and same developer tools as the browser is really nice.
