aprilthird2021··on Hermantown approves controversial Google Data Center during late night meeting
> We are angry that our local city council is representing a corporation instead of the citizens that they are supposed to. We're protesting against citizens losing their rights in their own city. No amount of money is worth that.

What rights are they losing?

aprilthird2021··on Do the math: How we took over ChatGPT accounts
But couldn't they just turn around and sell this hackers for much more money?
aprilthird2021··on Do the math: How we took over ChatGPT accounts
Makes negative sense. If it were that easy, OpenAI wouldn't have any bugs bc they could just run agents to exploit their own stuff and then fix all their bugs.

This bug could not be found by just asking an AI "find bugs in ChatGPT", that's why it was reported through a bug bounty programs and that's why it should be worth more than $5k

aprilthird2021··on The Great American Rascal: Tom Sawyer at 150
I guess, but kids still go outside and do chores. What do you think kids no longer do that kids in Twain's novels did?

They certainly don't use many of the same words, probably don't sail or float on a river (but how many kids could ever do that). What else? The core elements of friendship, loyalty, cunning, and the base satire are all still relevant and visceral today

aprilthird2021··on The Great American Rascal: Tom Sawyer at 150
> I wonder how many more generations we can go before that's all gone, or if it already has. There's still a lot of value in it as a work of literature, but I don't know if it has the same intuitive understanding it had in the 20th century.

...what do you think will cause kids to be unable to understand it? They understand things like the Odyssey and the Iliad, Charles Dickens, the Bible/Torah/Quran/Baghvad Gita/etc., Faust, Don Quixote, etc. all of which were written far earlier

aprilthird2021··on The Great American Rascal: Tom Sawyer at 150
I don't believe new copies are censored? I read the book (Huckleberry Finn's not Sawyer's) as a kid in the 2010s and we read the version with slurs as well
aprilthird2021··on DoorDash to acquire Instacart
Antitrust is completely dead with the current President brazenly taking bribes through his son in law and his sons fake crypto company and scamming his own supporters twice with rug pull memecoins. With that level of disdain for consumers who will ever enforce antitrust?
aprilthird2021··on DoorDash to acquire Instacart
That's crazy bc in California with super high minimum wage and DD paying a portion of the order and not a minimum wage, the drivers make less than everyone else usually
aprilthird2021··on Dayjob: Tax – evaluating AI agents on 50 professional tax assignments
The OP said it was a complicated return so anyone assuming OPs anecdote is in line with the article is filling the lines in themselves with a lot of assumptions
aprilthird2021··on Dayjob: Tax – evaluating AI agents on 50 professional tax assignments
The goalposts shifted so hard here I think we're playing rugby instead of football
aprilthird2021··on Dayjob: Tax – evaluating AI agents on 50 professional tax assignments
It's unusual to spend that much even for a small business tax returns except maybe in major cities
aprilthird2021··on Dayjob: Tax – evaluating AI agents on 50 professional tax assignments
According to these benchmarks. It's not there yet
aprilthird2021··on Dayjob: Tax – evaluating AI agents on 50 professional tax assignments
Your anecdote seems to clash heavily with the results of the benchmark announced in the article. I suppose that is part of the jagged experience of agentic AI
aprilthird2021··on Dayjob: Tax – evaluating AI agents on 50 professional tax assignments
Isn't writing out the example in the beginning that Astra missed basically ensuring that every future model will get this task correct?

I guess my point is these benchmarks unless they are constantly refreshed with new scenarios and not ever having their outcomes written about publicly or available on a public server, will always be prone to being gamed

aprilthird2021··on AI didn't cause the tech jobs bust, but it explains why there's no recovery
They are on the rise but that rise is slower than and has not yet made up for the jobs lost despite growth in revenues returning to the industry
aprilthird2021··on Mark Zuckerberg Pushed Meta to Shield Him from California's Proposed Wealth Tax
Most people who say this have no idea how complex governments are. California has a budget stabilization fund which they deposit extra revenue into every year. But it needed to be used post COVID a time 90% of commenters here would have failed to handle well if they'd been in charge.

This is proven by looking at the disastrous Trump admin. Who came in thinking "Uh government is so bloated we need to spend smarter and cut waste" and did DOGE for a bit, then quit, and added more money to our deficit and barely saved anything and spent more money hiring back essential people bc they couldn't distinguish essential spend from frivolous spend

aprilthird2021··on Mark Zuckerberg Pushed Meta to Shield Him from California's Proposed Wealth Tax
But they aren't "shielding" him really. They are just making it possible for him to pay the tax by selling shares in the company without giving up voting shares...

I mean maybe that is "shielding" but it's not like they are getting him out of paying the tax if it passes

aprilthird2021··on Meta ordered to pay $25B penalty in New Mexico Cambridge Analytica case
They will likely not even have to pay $25B bc they will continue to appeal till they get a more favorable ruling
aprilthird2021··on Meta ordered to pay $25B penalty in New Mexico Cambridge Analytica case
Yeah it is kind of sad how not stopping posts which fueled a literal genocide is hardly glanced at but Cambridge Analytica is considered a disaster of the highest order. Who died from Cambridge Analytica?
aprilthird2021··on Meta ordered to pay $25B penalty in New Mexico Cambridge Analytica case
It's a very good point. The further upon appeal Meta goes, the more removed they get from a jury and they'll be more likely to get a favorable ruling due to the company's negative approval rating amongst the public
aprilthird2021··on Lula supporters protest against Meta to denounce its 'electoral interference'
We also supported a dictator overthrowing the democratically elected leader of Egypt
aprilthird2021··on Lula supporters protest against Meta to denounce its 'electoral interference'
I think it's their lack of oversight that allows bad actors to flourish. The BJP pay people to spread stupidity online (both with paid posts and liking swarms) and have done so for years (they were early to this game), and despite it being fraudulent activity, Meta does little to stop it or let people know it is not authentic activity
aprilthird2021··on Lula supporters protest against Meta to denounce its 'electoral interference'
I thought this was terrible when this happened. But I would welcome them doing this every day instead of having Trump corruptly accept bribes to the tune of billions of dollars for his kids crypto company and rug pull American citizens twice with fraud crypto schemes, and go on a pardon spree for every fraudster and white collar criminal he can find.

Idk, maybe having a lewd President is better than having a corrupt, fraud-supporting, law-discarding President who is now trying to kick people off voter rolls so he doesn't lose a midterm after his failed running of the economy despite having every single branch of govt in his control

aprilthird2021··on 90% of US working hours are spent on tasks not covered well by AI benchmarks
Come on, are you serious? Lawyers will be around for the next 100 years easily
aprilthird2021··on 90% of US working hours are spent on tasks not covered well by AI benchmarks
Oh no, this is like a bat signal to all the craziest sci-fi doomsday nutso people to warn you about how a rogue AI will become world dictator and put humans in a Matrix-style energy farm
aprilthird2021··on Tesla Roadster

aprilthird2021··on Tesla Roadster
It's not politics to dislike a guy who fired thousands of Americans from their jobs for fun, disproportionately veterans. Failed to even do the thing he set out to do which is save the country money, and then quit. That's just incompetence with material negative effect on people's lives
