https://piszek.com is my blog devoted to Remote Work, Psychology, Tech, and Solarpunk.
Frankly I had the same thought writing it :D
It's more of a stake in the ground sort of a thing I guess? What I really want is somebody saying "hey, there is an open standard already here" so I can use it.
To clarify, this not a policy but a design choice and an intent of one PM :D I cannot speak for the actual company policy because we are at an exploration phase.
> also @simonw’s “AI veganism”: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=32639643 its a good term because it will be about as popular and have as loud and passionate and few adherents as actual veganism
Diets are such a rich metaphor for the approach to content! Fast food on the consumption side, veganism, kosher, paleo etc. on the production side
I love how:
- They are async by default
- Incentivize deep analysis and thoughtful writing
- There is a canonical link for every piece of information, project, etc
- Discussions only need to happen once. Whenever somebody starts discussing a matter we analysed 3 years ago, somebody drops a link on slack to provide context.
To be fair, we are a company of 2000+ and every time we grow, we are actively discussing ways to evolve how we use P2s.
Keeping a writing culture requires habits as well. We specifically hire for good writting communication skills.
Just like on HN, one comment deep in the thread can be way more valuable than the original post. (I work at Automattic)
When I travelled to Mexico, I've seen it very popular there under Renault brand.
The car feels cheap, cramped, and has no discernible acceleration :D. It also gets the job done, is dirt cheap to repair, and has so much clearance you can build a whole lean startup under the floor.
I submitted many of my own articles here and they have trended. Frankly, it constitutes most of my submissions.
Since HN is the way I get information, it is hard for me to pitch anything novel since whenever I come with content that I want to share, I search and somebody already submitted it :/. It is a new years resolution of mine do post more of the "other" stuff
I rounded up my thoughts on what made my previous articles "successful":
Houses have sizes, locations and whole spectrum of varieties that can be taken into account!
Yeah, I kind of forgot to caveat it all with how unreasonably good I have it as a programmer, and that story refers to my programmer friends, who like to marinate a little too long in bad jobs that they could have easily changed

And of course, it was torrent then. There was just no other way to legally get it. Torrent was much more popular
While I do agree that this seem to be very correlated with the montoheistic religions (wrote about exactly that here):
> Monotheism makes it really hard to consider the arguments of the other side because it doles out the addictive sweet nectar of moral superiority
https://piszek.com/2022/01/10/monotheism/
I don't agree with your conclusion that this is something you have to fight. We can do exactly what they did before the spread of montheism - live in the world where it is perfectly normal to have multiple points of view or even value frameworks. Rome thrived in that setting.
The choice between us vs them is itself an illusion. You don't have to subscribe to the entire package, but then you don't get access to that righteousness Fix
By definition I cannot provide the entire truth because only a slice of reality is available to me.
As such, the only "not contradictory" response to "is this entire truth" is no. Ergo you are correct.
