asfarley··on Show HN: Open-sourced (road) traffic counting application
Excellent, I'm going to post links to installers to make it somewhat more convenient, just haven't gotten to that yet
asfarley··on Show HN: Open-sourced (road) traffic counting application
Looks like it might be using background subtraction, is that right?
asfarley··on Show HN: Open-sourced (road) traffic counting application
An interesting effect of counting at roundabouts is that MHT/basic inertial movement models tend to work quite well, because the vehicles aren't stopping and starting, and they tend to not bunch up as much as at a red light

I accidentally linked the wrong repo (it was original/unredacted with API keys, etc). The correct repo is: https://github.com/asfarley/vtc_opensource

Yes, done now

Sorry for the confusion

asfarley··on Show HN: Open-sourced (road) traffic counting application
I botched the open-sourcing, I intended to post this one: https://github.com/asfarley/vtc_opensource

I've updated the license to BSD 3-Clause and deleted the EULA.txt.

Try to make some progress on arthritis, cancer and dementia
asfarley··on C# is programming language of the year 2023
I use it daily
asfarley··on Ask HN: How much code do you write in your job?
Technically, self-employed but working entirely for one company.
asfarley··on Ask HN: How much code do you write in your job?
Nearly 100%, the other time is spent planning tests, discussing new features with users. I probably spend 90% of the time actually coding.
asfarley··on Maersk ship hit by missile in the Red Sea
Honor, Symbols and War touches on the topic of how an event becomes symbolic.
asfarley··on Fact checkers tend to agree on validity of news claims, researchers say
I often find myself disagreeing with fact checkers. No, I don’t have a paper to support this. My disagreement is mostly based on careful reading of the position presented by fact-checkers.
asfarley··on The New Essential Guide to Electronics in Shenzhen
Google translate, except for connector gender
asfarley··on My insulin pump controller has a bug
But a high reading is a state that can exist. I don’t really see how formal methods would exclude a multiplication/unit error with respect to the displayed unit.
asfarley··on Sam Altman tweet after being fired
Not needing to add padding is a form of status signaling
asfarley··on Ask HN: Solo founders – how and when did you find your first users?
I made a landing page and a YouTube channel. People found the product via Google and then usually emailed.
asfarley··on Ask HN: Write once, run anywhere front ends failed. Thoughts?
I’ve been working on a complex desktop WPF application and I’m happy with the results.
asfarley··on Intel to set its FPGA unit free to pursue its own path
Hello to Audrey and James
asfarley··on Sega Saturn Mini Could Become a Reality, Thanks to Retron FPGA
I’m very happy to see FPGA emulation being picked up by a company who sells in larger volume. The boutique prices for NES FPGA emulation don’t really make sense to me.
asfarley··on iFixit tears down a McDonald’s ice cream machine, demands DMCA exemption for it
The actual story is that there’s a minimum level of complexity involved in a tear-down of a machine used to process dairy.

Employees don’t get a bonus for doing the cleaning, so it’s in their interest to declare that the machine is broken.

Former McDonalds employees have explained this to me when I brought up this story.

asfarley··on “Ansible for DevOps” eBook by Jeff Geerling Is Now Free
I’m currently using some of his Ansible scripts, they are the right balance of complexity for my projects.
asfarley··on Former intel officer says 'non-human biologics’ found at alleged UFO crash sites
It seems to me that this stuff might be an intentional leak in order to distract from more earthy political issues, so they actually want it to get out into the news.
asfarley··on Secret identities in Dwarf Fortress (2017)
Based on your description, you could describe “need fulfillment” as a task associated with the NPC object. Then you just maintain your original operations while adding NPCs to your object list.
asfarley··on Former intel officer says 'non-human biologics’ found at alleged UFO crash sites
There’s a pretty good chance the Nimitz incident was an intentional decoy self-test by the Navy IMO. Clouds give a radar return, so a projected plasma target would probably also give a radar return.
asfarley··on New AI translates 5k-year-old cuneiform tablets instantly
It’s a little disappointing that they didn’t include any examples of translation, isn’t it?
