asterix_pano··on Bonsai 2 27B: Near-Lossless Compression in a 9x Smaller Footprint
When I hear 9x smaller, I visualize 9 small items taken as much space as the big one, I find it quite clear.
asterix_pano··on Olympic Committee bars transgender athletes from women’s events
Why not? Aren't you mixing gender and sex?
asterix_pano··on France passes bill to ban social media use by under-15s
Because the effects are much worse on developing brains.
asterix_pano··on Americans Are the Ones Paying for Tariffs, Study Finds
is there really nothing to do?
asterix_pano··on CRISPR fungus: Protein-packed, sustainable, and tastes like meat
Did you know they put nose rings with spikes on the calfs so they don't drink their mother's milk? https://as1.ftcdn.net/jpg/03/06/17/72/1000_F_306177230_izPAv...
asterix_pano··on CRISPR fungus: Protein-packed, sustainable, and tastes like meat
That is not how most of the chicken is raised (over 70 billions are slaughtered per year).
asterix_pano··on GPT-5
you can also use https://nano-gpt.com/ if privacy is necessary
asterix_pano··on Visa and Mastercard are getting overwhelmed by gamer fury over censorship
Because almost no administration was ready to regulate it until recently. Payment and remittances are such obvious use cases but if every transaction create a tax event, it's also too cumbersome to implement for most merchant.
asterix_pano··on Ask HN: Startup getting spammed with PayPal disputes, what should we do?
I am also amazed by the resistance to change here as there is a system clearly more efficient and transparent. It's just a matter of time in my opinion. BTW you can remove the (nearly) in "(nearly) costless", some solutions provide 0 fees and no inflation.
asterix_pano··on Fastplotlib: GPU-accelerated, fast, and interactive plotting library
Looks very interesting. Does it allow to plot lines of varying thickness?
asterix_pano··on My Life in Weeks
Thanks for sharing, this format really puts things into perspective.
asterix_pano··on ChatGPT Pro
If you don't want to necessarily have to pick between one or the other, there are services like this one that let you basically access all the major LLMs and only pay per use: https://nano-gpt.com/
asterix_pano··on Ask HN: Payment processing for micro SaaS outside USA?
I wish a crypto like Nano would already be a solution for this kind of use case. Why is it still so hard in 2024 to accept payments globally, while the internet works everywhere?
asterix_pano··on Bitcoin has made a new all-time high price
why not use something that's better to transact (less or no fees and faster) ?
asterix_pano··on Do AI companies work?
Training takes many years though.
asterix_pano··on Llama 3.2: Revolutionizing edge AI and vision with open, customizable models
Maybe it's cynical to think that way but maybe it's a way to crush the competition before it even begins: I would probably not invest in researching LLMs now, knowing that there is a company that will very likely produce a model close enough for free and I will likely never make back the investment.
asterix_pano··on STORM: Get a Wikipedia-like report on your topic
I suppose that the fact that it's too shallow could be improved by applying this approach recursively on each sub-topic, then synthesise them and create a narrative around them.
asterix_pano··on Ask HN: What have you built with LLMs?
It's very nice, love it
asterix_pano··on Sei pays out $2M bug bounty
Depends, it's not clear yet that "code is law" or is not.
asterix_pano··on Rejecting GMOs hinders human progress and keeps the poor hungry
We have more than enough food for everyone. Actually, we waste most of agricultural land to grow crops to feed animals that we eat later on, which is extremely inefficient, like a 10 to 1 calorie conversion rate. It's also cruel, bad for the environment, etc.
asterix_pano··on Claude 3 beats GPT-4 on Aider's code editing benchmark
You can use a service such as nano-gpt.com where you pay for every single query only. I rarely spend more than $20 a month and I can choose whichever model I want.
asterix_pano··on Ollama releases Python and JavaScript Libraries
Llama_index basically does that. You have even some tuto using Streamlit that creates a UI around it for you.
asterix_pano··on Granting pardon for the offense of simple possession of or use of marijuana
They are not enforced the same way to all, though.
asterix_pano··on Binance founder Changpeng Zhao agrees to step down, plead guilty
Why BCH and not NANO? You like to wait and pay fees?
asterix_pano··on Binance founder Changpeng Zhao agrees to step down, plead guilty
There are now lots of efficient cryptos and some that can run on a single wind turbine. But I am with you, hoping the energyvore ones die as fast as possible.
asterix_pano··on Car Bloat: “Huge Cars Are Terrible for Society”
Where does it stop though? Are you fine putting everyone else in danger so you feel safe? Are you buying a tank next?
asterix_pano··on Car Bloat: “Huge Cars Are Terrible for Society”
Not to 99% of the world, but to 99% of the people in an egocentric society.
asterix_pano··on Car Bloat: “Huge Cars Are Terrible for Society”
It is also fair to hate the player, as often they are making the decisions consciously. They are supporting the game, which would die if there was no demand. Same as the meat industry for example. It's too easy to always put the fault on some higher instance.
asterix_pano··on YC offers early interviews for AI companies
Why is the second one a better proposition?
asterix_pano··on Proposed SEC order to freeze, repatriate Binance.US assets
Having internet money that is cross border, instant, efficient and censorship resistant is difficult to build, so it takes time, but it's incredibly valuable as it removes a lot of frictions.
