ati··on Using Blu-ray M-Disk as backup of last resort
This is a tempered glass that should break into small pieces around 1cm each
ati··on Using Blu-ray M-Disk as backup of last resort
Sure, both is true. I didn't want to make the object too attractive, so that it makes visitors want to take it with them or disclose its location. And not too ugly to provoke an urge to break it or throw into the water.
ati··on Using Blu-ray M-Disk as backup of last resort
I have created an archive on 100-Gb M-disk sealed in a tempered glass enclosure. Placed it in on a tiny island in the White sea.

ati··on NASA ICER image compression algorithm as a C library

Converting the same image with bpgenc yields 19092 bytes. Probably not transmission errors tolerant though.

ati··on Ask HN: What is your money-making side project outside programming?
I designed and built quality (high-brightness, high-CRI) ceiling light. Not very profitable, but it was very fun and refresing to negotiate with aluminum profile manufacturers, paint shops, etc. And real-world customers, outside of IT echo chamber.
ati··on Tessel: The end of web development as we know it
There are three main problems in the "internet of things" field:

1. The lack of consumer grade sensors that can detect human presence and behavior patterns.

2. The lack of robust models and open source software describing patterns of human interaction with environment.

3. Insufficient and incomplete solution to power supply and interconnection problem.

I see any advance in these fields an order of magnitude more important than any new board running [modern language interpreter].

ati··on Ask HN: Any Moscow HNers?
Wow! I thought there's lot more HN-ers in Moscow. I'm one of them, anyway. variomap@gmail.com, Alexander.
ati··on Russian legislative elections 2011 - statistical evidence of vote fraud
I second that. If this is anti-Putin frame-up, he would be the first to investigate election fraud. Actually the opposite is the case, russian authorities repeatedly say that elections were clean and fair.
