Yes.

Can we configure it to use local models but in LAN? Like Ollama or Strata.

Waterfox rulez!
atmanactive··on AROS.games - Retro OS for Gamers
I don't get it. Why do I need to "boot into nostalgia"? Why is this not a simple exe running on any and all operating systems of today?
atmanactive··on Show HN: RigCheck – can your GPU or Mac run this open model? Sourced, open data
Hmmm, this whole calculus changed recently with Strata and similar projects that do live memory juggling between VRAM, RAM and NVMe.
atmanactive··on I never authorized an integration that scans my secrets
Because it is happening without user's consent. Imagine you invite me for a drink in your home, and while you're not looking I go and open the front door, for whichever reason. How would that make you feel?
atmanactive··on I never authorized an integration that scans my secrets
That's the point right there, it feels like people who wrote that and people who added this "feature" are not the same people (any more).
atmanactive··on I never authorized an integration that scans my secrets
By a virtue of the fact that each and every server logs all packets 24/7 nowadays. For example, if you run a port scanner over a million different IP addresses, and one of them happens to be mine, then in my logs there is your IP now.
atmanactive··on I never authorized an integration that scans my secrets
It's a trust violation.
atmanactive··on I never authorized an integration that scans my secrets
Sending out even a ping without explicit user consent makes it unsafe.
atmanactive··on I never authorized an integration that scans my secrets
Absolutely. Couldn't agree more.
atmanactive··on I never authorized an integration that scans my secrets
Problem is not solved. Why was this turned on by default behind our backs? What else is being contacted and with what purpose behind our backs? This is a serious breach of trust from Home Assistant.
atmanactive··on I never authorized an integration that scans my secrets
I would consider a single byte sent to any server without my explicit permission a breach of trust.
atmanactive··on Show HN: Guitoro, a virtual guitar you strum with your keyboard
No MIDI?
atmanactive··on Show HN: HarmoNova: A modern, customizable Hacker News reader for Chrome
Ah, no, my bad, didn't define "seen" properly. Seen can mean "posts that I clicked to open", but it can also mean "posts I scrolled past". Seems that this second use case is not covered l.
atmanactive··on Show HN: HarmoNova: A modern, customizable Hacker News reader for Chrome
Top notch. Thank you very much.
atmanactive··on Show HN: HarmoNova: A modern, customizable Hacker News reader for Chrome
Awesome, thanks. Does it have on-page post list indexing? Just a number counting upwards from 1. I find such a feature very useful to combat doomscrolling.
atmanactive··on Show HN: HarmoNova: A modern, customizable Hacker News reader for Chrome
Looks great, thanks for sharing. Does it have seen posts tracking and subsequent hiding?
atmanactive··on Montray – a tray icon for systemd service health
Very nice! Thank you.
atmanactive··on Show HN: Babytalk: Offline speech to text and text to speech on ESP32
Thanks. I will ask an LLM to investigate if this could be implemented in a STT-to-HID standalone offline device. If I reach any semblance of success, I will let you know so the projects can link to each other.
atmanactive··on Show HN: Babytalk: Offline speech to text and text to speech on ESP32
Thank you for the explaination. So it is a library and would require someone to adjust it to their use case. That's what got me confused: wide open use case, but nothing tangible. I mean, if an ESP device is doing STT+TTS, then what am I supposed to be talking to? But if it is an ESP device that can do ANY->TTS and/or STT->ANY with some code customization needed, then I think I get it.
atmanactive··on Show HN: Babytalk: Offline speech to text and text to speech on ESP32
I was hoping this could be a hardware STT-to-HID, but, even after looking at the Git ReadMe, I still don't understand how is the text supposed to exit the device?
atmanactive··on Show HN: I'm color blind, so I built a way to show people how I see
This is awesome, thank you. Few observations from my own experience: floaters are smaller, less hair like and more blood vessel like, and they are always on the move. I have three more temporary conditions to suggest that might be interesting: 1.) PVD - Posterior Vitrous Detachment: considered harmless, milions of dark speck floaters all moving due to eye movement inertia, clears out naturally after a week, 2.) Retinal Detachment, considered a medical emergency: dark shadow in random corner slowly becoming bigger and bigger day by day, can be stopped only with a surgery, leads to complete blindness if left untreated, 3.) Gas Bubble, a temporary consequence of a retinal detachment surgery, lasts about a week, starts as fully blurred vision which is gradually being replaced by perfectly focused vision in a horizontal line that falls down like a curtain. In reality the eye is absorbing the gas and replacing it with vitrous liquid slowly, but due to camera obscura optical properties this is perceived as upside down, so the liquid surface line is not rising up from the bottom, but falling down from the top.
atmanactive··on "The refrigerator is dead": Samsung's AI fridges shut down after update
Out of 10 different SSD make and model I have in use around the house, the only one I ever had problems with were Samsung.

Finally.
atmanactive··on Show HN: Layered writing – a novel way to write and read digital text
This is great! A much needed tool in today's information overload world. In my opinion, the next step would be an engine capable of automatic conversion of any text into Layered format. If it stays manual writing only - it is doomed.
atmanactive··on The Machine Behind Michael Jackson's "Undeniable" Genius
Exactly. But some would call it a team, not a machine, no?
atmanactive··on Show HN: Fractalysis – Online interactive infinite-zoom Mandelbrot viewer
Looks great, the colors are really pleasant. What I personally find missing with all fractal zoom animations is that they always insist on zooming-in motion, while I believe the more logical direction would be zooming-out motion. Yes, yes, I know, I could download the YouTube video and reverse it to achieve the same thing, but, somehow, I could never find the time to do that.
atmanactive··on Show HN: A competition for small neural networks that play strategy games
I remember a game on Steam called Tiny Brains, great couch co-op.
atmanactive··on Show HN: Radius – A Meetup.com Alternative
What's the point in showing me events half way across the country? Is there a narrow-down filter available?
