axelfreeman··on Show HN: YouTube banned adblockers so I built an extension to skip their ads
If you have Problems in the chrome webstore than you could Build This for Firefox.
axelfreeman··on Google results for PHP tutorials contain SQL injection vulnerabilities
I checked the first page of google results for "php sql login" in german and all examples are talking about escaping or prepared statements.
axelfreeman··on Everyone is still terrible at creating software at scale
A lot of guessing and hunching and try to find one answer to a couple of problems where the question isn’t clear. So I don‘t know what point this article wants to make.
axelfreeman··on You Don't Need a GUI
I think this is because of the "default" behaviour pattern. You can rightclick or do a context click on the most systems. Even on smartphones you can hold your finger on the file to get a context menue. This is not the case for cli. There is not global pattern like "context file" or "options file" that works on every cli. There are not a lot of easy common patterns in the cli world. Even for autocomplete you have to change the default shell on the popular systems.
axelfreeman··on Why I link to Wayback Machine instead of original web content
You could link to the original web url and also do a print version of the web content as PDF. That's how i archive howtos and write-ups of interesting content. Print view and create a PDF version.
axelfreeman··on Getting Rid of Comments on Vice.com
Karma is only useful if you can't click a new account in 2 seconds.
axelfreeman··on We Tracked Down a Fake-News Creator in the Suburbs
He doesn't need to display ads to make his point. But he does. There is also no "public denouncing" of anything here. (Maybe change the text after 1 hour or something)

He just said that because he don't want to be the bad guy in front of the reporter and his family.

axelfreeman··on A demonstration of browser events used to monitor online behaviour
I had a lot of fun automate this game and see the results.

setInterval(function() {document.getElementsByTagName("a")[Math.floor(Math.random() * document.getElementsByTagName("a").length)].click()}, 5000)

axelfreeman··on A guide to using the Facebook Pixel
There is a cookie icon in the adressbar if 3rd party cookies are blocked. You can click it and go to show cookies or something (first blue link) and unblock the blocked.
axelfreeman··on Facebook and Twitter pledge to remove hate speech within 24 hours
It will cause friction and it doesn't matter what you are doing. Hate will produce friction. Counter speech is friction. Removing or blocking will cause friction.

This actions are made BECAUSE OF right-wing hate on facebook/twitter where people post that they should kill other people, politician, refugees. That's why they focus on this problem right now. Does this mean left-wing hate speech at the same level will not be deleted? I don't think so.

axelfreeman··on Facebook and Twitter pledge to remove hate speech within 24 hours
I thought about things we "kill all n*ggers" or "kill all white men". Thats an easy example of hatespeech for me.
axelfreeman··on Facebook and Twitter pledge to remove hate speech within 24 hours
It's not about left or right removal quantity. It's about hate. And there are a lot of easy cases on social media. I don't know what the do with not so easy cases. Maybe the same as before.
axelfreeman··on Keep your identity small (2009)
If you don't care if a god exist or not and never thought about it then its not a faith. ;-)
axelfreeman··on Russia’s new FindFace app identifies strangers in a crowd with 70% accuracy
If this will be a problem and it's getting abused it will be illegal. It's also illegal to clone a human from your hairs.

I don't get it. I can also search in a phone book for names or i can contact goverment help to find. The problem is what happens after you got the information and this is regulated in laws.

If your data is not on the internet it doesn't mean you are invisible.

axelfreeman··on Bing and Yahoo still advertise freeware with toolbar/adware installer
At least in germany.

Same problem with searches for "google chrome", "filezilla", "7zip", "opera" and "vlc player". It could be more.

Duckduckgo is using yahoo adnetwork and shows the same adware/toolbar installers. Google banned the ads for this search terms years ago.

axelfreeman··on Creativity Is Much More Than 10k Hours of Deliberate Practice
The difference is that kids have creativity and use all skills in a not conforming way to express is. If you are grownup you think you have to e.g. paint good in way X too be successful. Nobody have to master creativity but the most people say famous artists are so much creative.
axelfreeman··on Instagram Is Ruining Vacation
"I think we have a problem."

I think this is a lifestyle choice and you have a problem if you have a problem with your behavior or don't like the result of it. If i see people doing it and they are happy why should it be a problem?

axelfreeman··on What if the problem of poverty is that it’s profitable to other people?
But the decision to buy this overpriced shit is made by the people and not buy the companys. This seams like bad decisions if you have not that much money or want to spent it better.

The real problem are systems where rich people doen't have to buy so much taxes of automated productions or property.

axelfreeman··on Traffic analysis WhatsApp's end-to-end encryption (2015)
The core problem is now fixed. You can see if the conversation is encrypted or not.
axelfreeman··on Show HN: What every browser knows about you
Visiting a link exposes also a lot on default. Browser, OS, Resolution. The major browsers are not build for this needs. Best experience first. BTW: There are extensions to block webrtc ip leak.
axelfreeman··on Facebook is ruining Instagram
This algo will show photos with more likes on top. I wanna see photos from people and not this hashtagspam pushed crap in my timeline. Instagram fails at catching spam all the time. More likes = more views = more likes. The same problem facebook has right now. I wanna see pics of my follower and not only the "pages" with photographic skills + photoshop + hashtagspam.

It's getting less social and more like magazine-subscription of channels.

axelfreeman··on Toddlers Kill More People in the USA (with guns) Than Terrorists Do
This link in the article is more interessting that this article himself. http://www.snopes.com/toddlers-killed-americans-terrorists/
axelfreeman··on Opera Browser adds integrated adblocker
I need this blocking images function for my smartphone.
axelfreeman··on AlphaGo beats Lee Sedol again in match 2 of 5
I don't get the mystery of this. This algorithm is complex. SURE! But deep learning is very fast training / repeatition of a game (or some other goal) while saving the good or bad results. Predict user moves. Find good positions/patterns. Or did i miss some here?

axelfreeman··on AlphaGo beats Lee Sedol again in match 2 of 5
You cannot do something unpredictable in a game with strict rules and borders. You had to trick this algorithm the billion times it trained for this game.
axelfreeman··on Gibber: Music live coding environment for the browser
If you start too much sounds it sounds noisy in chrome. It's a bug in web audio and will be fixed.
axelfreeman··on Facebook changes how it enforces 'real name' policy in wake of criticism
What would be usefull for both sides?

Facebook should save the real name BUT NOT DISPLAY it. You can display whatever you want. Fake name or what you like. Your friend can find you (if they know your real name) with search but nobody else can see your real name.

axelfreeman··on Hackers Prove They Can ‘Pwn’ the Lives of Those Not Hyperconnected
I recommend this extension to find malicious chrome extensions. https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/chrome-apps-extens...
axelfreeman··on Hackers Prove They Can ‘Pwn’ the Lives of Those Not Hyperconnected
Hackers can "pwn" you by not even hacking you. If someone can hack e.g. your phone provider or something you can get even worse problems and you did not anything wrong.
axelfreeman··on Hackers Prove They Can ‘Pwn’ the Lives of Those Not Hyperconnected
If someone has access to your local passwordmanager he can also keylog everything you type in. Okay, if he can hack your passwordmanager he gets all of your passwords at the same time. Thats a point.

It matters with one goes faster: Cranking your PW manager or you typing in all your passwords.
