b34r··on Creators of Tailwind laid off 75% of their engineering team
It's important to remember this is just the commercial arm. The OSS side has as many maintainers as Adam allows and the community is quite active with PRs and volunteer work. Tailwind the project will be ok. Someone will fork it if stales thanks to its popularity. That being said, many more companies should sponsor considering its ubiquitous adoption.

What? That's not what this does at all. Educate yourself. It has nothing to do with the commercial side of his business, it's just the already public docs in cleaned up pure text form.
b34r··on Creators of Tailwind laid off 75% of their engineering team
No, I spent many hours of my personal time on it.
b34r··on Creators of Tailwind laid off 75% of their engineering team
Nope. Started with regex but it was brittle so I used my library which parses to AST which is easier to work with. It's a docs site, so I'm getting one more download woohoo.
b34r··on Anthropic’s $5B, 4-year plan to take on OpenAI
They need to skill up on being public and creating useful tech demos. That’s why OpenAI is currently winning, they know how to foster engagement and interest. Who had heard of Claude? Almost no one outside of our industry and probably within as well.
b34r··on AI’s compute fragmentation: what matrix multiplication teaches us
Chad Jarvis is an AI-generated name if I’ve ever heard one
b34r··on TinyVG – an alternative binary encoded vector graphics format
Good luck getting browser support so it’s actually usable
b34r··on Silicon or Carbon?
I question the taste of someone that thinks SF is a great place, honestly. They were supremely lucky many tech companies were born there and have completely squandered the advantage.
b34r··on Tech Progress Is Slowing Down
I see the top asymptotic part of the curve being an Iain Banksian “Culture”. Very very far off, but at a certain point, maybe Kardashev II-III, there will be a gradual plateau.
b34r··on Tech Progress Is Slowing Down
It’s an S curve of which we are in the early ramping phase. ML is going to change everything
b34r··on Tech Progress Is Slowing Down
We’re in the Singularity even right now and most of the world doesn’t know it.
b34r··on Tesla Terminated Dozens in Response to New Union Campaign, Complaint Alleges
Yup. Project Vacation is in full swing these days.
b34r··on Shoichiro Toyoda, who turned Toyota into global automaker, has died
There are so many nuanced things that go into making a great EV: advanced software with OTA updates, highly efficient electric motors, material science breakthroughs in battery tech and other components. Toyota can get there in time but there’s so many things to do and they’re facing increasingly rough headwinds the longer they wait to properly electrify.
b34r··on Tesla Workers Launch Union Campaign in New York
Let me rephrase, it either ensures their jobs stick around (perhaps doing a different function?) or that they will receive well above industry average severance.

There’s no point in unionizing unless that leverage equals some sort of compensation down the road.

b34r··on Tesla Workers Launch Union Campaign in New York
Yes and ultimately they will reduce the headcount to a fraction of current size since autolabeling will work in most scenarios. To my knowledge this has already happened… labelers now are tagging new scenarios for the autolabeler to grok for future learning passes.
b34r··on Tesla Workers Launch Union Campaign in New York
Idk why people are downvoting me, it’s 100% facts. Google “Project Vacation”
b34r··on Tesla Workers Launch Union Campaign in New York
They’re labelers, which are being quickly replaced by automation. This is a bid to secure their jobs long-term.
b34r··on Ask HN: I'm 40 and feel my mental ability declining. Programming seems harder.

b34r··on BMW iX5 Hydrogen Enters Production
Looked it up and hydrogen is actually much safer than gas when it comes to ignition and probability of explosion during accidents. If liquid fuel vehicles must remain in service, it seems like a worthwhile trade.
b34r··on Crucial Computer Program for Particle Physics at Risk of Obsolescence
Obsolescence means something else made it obsolete, meaning another program passed it technologically or provided superior user experience so usage naturally dropped off.

It’s at risk of neglect/disrepair/falling behind. If it’s important enough and something breaks hard you better believe someone will pick it up, but not until it’s a forced issue.

b34r··on New CSS units that account for mobile viewports with dynamic toolbars
window.visualViewport is the only API I’ve found that’s consistently correct
b34r··on Using a date-modified header to detect unique visitors without using cookies
Why? It’s anonymous and doesn’t collect any user data other than IP and stuff from the user agent
b34r··on Show HN: Feep! search, an independent search engine for programmers
Searched for “React” and the official docs weren’t even in the top 10.
b34r··on Tell HN: YouTube's web UI just got even worse
I use the YouTube app on my Tesla often and honestly this UI update has been a welcome improvement so far. The like button is now above the fold so I can easily tap it. It’s the little things
b34r··on Tesla faces U.S. criminal probe over self-driving claims
Not sure what you mean, EAP is highway-only and using it off the highway is off-label and not safe. I have tried FSD beta and it was not great at the time (10.12.2)

The longest stretch I’ve used EAP for is >3 hrs going from MA to NY. Highways were totally smooth, did its own lane changes, etc.

It can be slightly jerky at times when the traffic keeps speeding up and slowing down sharply, that’s my only real complaint.

b34r··on Tesla faces U.S. criminal probe over self-driving claims
I use AP every time I’m on the highway and it works quite well in most scenarios for me in Massachusetts. I don’t use it in the snow FWIW.
b34r··on Twitter Is Losing Its Most Active Users, Internal Documents Show
No one I care about has left that I can discern.
b34r··on Ray tracing Voxels made out of Glass
Doesn’t work in Safari on an iPhone.
b34r··on Starlink broadband speeds slow as subscriber numbers grow
To be expected until Starlink v2 satellites start launching early next year. Right now the constellation is very constrained by local ground stations and they can’t pass data around in orbit. That will change soon, as well as major spectral capacity improvements in the new hardware.
