Token providers in aggregate work a bit like airlines so the end pricing should also work a bit like airlines; expect budget tokens, fast boarding tokens, window seat tokens, last minute tokens, miles for tokens, … and naturally prices fluctuating by the hour.
I disagree. I would gladly hear why they think there are no privacy concerns or why they don’t care about their privacy so much. I find it hard to understand.
The fact that it made the browser itself impossible to monetize to fund development was a part of it. They were an antitrust insurance to Google and tried lots of stuff to improve its position. Granted they failed, sometimes quite spectacularly, but I still drive Firefox for personal use.
It was the rare confluence of people needing the same thing the megacorp showing them ads needed. We all benefited, no hard feelings, but always remember to look at where the puck is going.
Not too far fetched to say this potentially solves continual learning, which is a scary prospect. Wonder what ram and disk prices will go to once every model needs its own long term memory capacity and not just weights and cache.
I had an idea of splicing a z3 solver into the weights of a sufficiently smart model after the first chatgpt release in what feels like a glaciation event ago so the things could do logic and literally make no mistakes. Was never in a position to follow up. We’re almost here now.
'biology moves at the speed of life' is a fantastic quote that should ground everyone's expectations - unless there's a revolutionary advancement in simming life, do not think that we'll see the same pace of progress as we've seen in software engineering or maths.
S-1 states directly that some of the shares sold in the IPO are sold by current shareholders.
Employees are a different matter, lockouts are for them not quitting immediately. My bet is that a few of high profile departures recently is exactly for this reason: no lockout if you aren't employed anymore.
Amount of early money waiting to exit is absolutely staggering, wonder if there’s enough retail to buy the leftovers without crashing the price. Reminder everyone with money who wanted in before IPO got in!
Let’s not forget that Luna max is actually extremely capable for the price, you can get a lot done on the $20 sub.
Haven’t tried haiku 5.5, I expect it to simply run out too fast, but they did change the price below 100k tokens recently; perhaps I should check it out.
with programming languages which just rehash ideas (not saying it's a bad thing mind you! a good mix is better than a sum of its parts) you can nowadays get literally years of work in a week. truly novel stuff like bend2 takes longer (ask Victor), but I expect the next generation of models to compress those timelines, too (if the next generation is allowed to be released, since the security brouhaha going on now is seriously concerning)
‘Having to work for money’ beats ‘having to hunt and farm for food’ and it’s technically a small step away.
‘Not having to work and being warm and fed’ is called being a pet. Some cats and dogs enjoy this life greatly. I’ve been thinking about this a lot recently.
Not sure what is there to debate about. The vulns were there, that is a fact. There’s nonzero chance NSA, Mossad, FSB, PLA, MSS, RGB, MI6 etc. knew about some of them and used them for more or less nefarious things which you don’t want to be on the other side of. Normal criminals stealing stuff for money as a matter of course is not great obviously, but IMHO much better than the alternative.
