barbazoo··on Tesla to wind down Cybertruck production
If you have an electric car that supports V2H.

Despite the dealer saying the used one I bought supported it, it turned out to not be available in the trim I got. My fault obviously for believing something a car dealer said.

barbazoo··on Tesla to wind down Cybertruck production
Are those numbers right? 0.4 kWh/mile is 24.85 kWh/100km compared to about 14 kWh/100km my Kia Niro EV uses.
barbazoo··on Show HN: Uncracked City, detective game where you question LLM suspects that lie
I love this kind of game and I'm excited for AI to make them more individual and I really hope that sometime soon we'll get to a point where these AI-requests don't have to go to a datacenter but can be done locally on one's own machine.
barbazoo··on North Korean fake job interview led to $6.3B Binance heist
The way I read the Binance post[0] is that the first mistake was "Engineer A from Wallet DevOps" clicking on a malicious Google ad[1]. If Google didn't provide that attack vector, maybe this wouldn't have happened that time.

barbazoo··on Hackers hit French national blood bank
A human makes the change locally. For example the manager in a grocery store.

Grocery chains are removing control from stores to HQ in all kinds of ways to cut cost, this is a symptom of that.

barbazoo··on [dead]
Its about aging populations, low birth rates etc.

> United Nations projections indicate that over the next 50 years, the populations of virtually all countries of Europe as well as Japan will face population decline and population ageing. The new challenges of declining and ageing populations will require comprehensive reassessments of many established policies and programmes, including those relating to international migration. Focusing on these two striking and critical population trends, the report considers replacement migration for eight low-fertility countries (France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Republic of Korea, Russian Federation, United Kingdom and United States) and two regions (Europe and the European Union). Replacement migration refers to the international migration that a country would need to offset population decline and population ageing resulting from low fertility and mortality rates.

barbazoo··on Microsoft's Canada timezone troubles leave admins fixing calendars
We have Yoto devices for our kids and they haven't updated either, their America/Vancouver timezone fell back an hour last weekend. There is no UTC-7 or the proper Pacific time timezone. Frustrating, this was known for so long.
barbazoo··on Show HN: Subvocal – Talk to your computer without making noise
There is no human connection typing words into a box, that's seems like what it's mostly replacing. Talking to your email client, talking to your AI agent. Lots of us are much faster speaking than typing and especially with AI, it doesn't matter a whole lot in my experience how polished the output is, the benefit from ending up with a lot more text because one can just talk freely is very beneficial.

barbazoo··on Google Search is now less than half of Alphabet’s revenue
I'd still try to get to the result a different way, even if it involves doing another search. Same with Amazon.
barbazoo··on What we know so far about Spain train crash
> Sometimes you would be able to still get vital information and being actually able to act.

Optimistically assuming you have a minute to react (I'm imagining closer to 10s), what could one possibly do?

barbazoo··on What we know so far about Spain train crash
Not OP but I'm imagining we'd ask the question why the "dispatcher ordered manual bypass ignoring the rest of the guardrails". They're saying it's all slices of cheese in a system that failed here.
barbazoo··on Hackers expose the identities of more than 40k DHS employees
And they're still being identified, decades later and still getting into trouble for it which I love.

That's right, I just read about that. Even crossing the English channel apparently was unpredictable at times.
barbazoo··on Meta employees say Lula’s accounts restricted in Brazil election: Report
I only use FB occasionally for marketplace with an empty account. All that it's ever suggesting in the home feed is hateful, right-wing content. Never anything positive. It's so sad that that's what drives the metrics these people care about. If this is your job, shame on you!

barbazoo··on Toronto Crime Stoppers pauses program after investigation of data leak
> The organization also said that despite its legal counsel’s multiple requests over months, Navigate360 — the U.S.-based third party that manages all of Crime Stoppers’ anonymous tips internationally through its software platform P3 — did not provide the text of the stolen tips, so it cannot see them.

> The response also included a detailed timeline stating that Navigate360 initially said the leak did not include any Canadian data. It then said some Canadian data had been stolen but not Toronto's, before finally confirming that about three years' worth of Toronto data actually was affected.

barbazoo··on Meta ordered to pay $25B penalty in New Mexico Cambridge Analytica case
You're being sarcastic, right? Right? It's a 1.5 trillion dollar company [1], how would this amount even be relevant compared to the profits they made from their behavior.

barbazoo··on Meta ordered to pay $25B penalty in New Mexico Cambridge Analytica case
Why would you personally punish the chumps that execute the orders instead of leadership that gave the orders?
barbazoo··on EA is shutting down BioWare
> The company is also laying off around 400 staffers, Bloomberg reports, including around 50 at BioWare. The changes follow EA being taken private by an investor group led by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, Silver Lake, and Affinity Partners in a $55 billion deal that closed in August.

Never thought that Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund would shutdown the company that created so many childhood memories.

barbazoo··on I no longer care to work on any Ruby gems so I've archived all my repositories
Username checks out and thank you for writing out my own feelings better than I ever could have, even with AI.
barbazoo··on I no longer care to work on any Ruby gems so I've archived all my repositories
Totally, I can't quite imagine an AI automating my use of AI tough, how it would infer what prompt I would use at any given time, the problem space is infinite. Am I adding another *arr app to my stack, are we building a SPA, a home automation plugin, whatever. These are things that I want to do and AI helps with that.

In the corporate setting I think though it won't take a lot of time to reduce the layers and number of people that are required to run a software company. Either one becomes a more general work manager or obsolete I guess.
