The details of my life are quite inconsequential.. Very well, where do I begin? My father was a relentlessly self-improving boulangerie owner from Belgium with low grade narcolepsy and a penchant for buggery. My mother was a fifteen year old French prostitute named Chloe with webbed feet. My father would womanize, he would drink, he would make outrageous claims like he invented the question mark. Some times he would accuse chestnuts of being lazy, the sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament. My childhood was typical, summers in Rangoon, luge lessons. In the spring we'd make meat helmets. When I was insolent I was placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds, pretty standard really. At the age of 12 I received my first scribe. At the age of fourteen, a Zoroastrian named Vilma ritualistically shaved my testicles. There really is nothing like a shorn scrotum, it's breathtaking, I suggest you try it.

basicplus2··on Effects of microgravity on cell-level cardiac function and gene expression
<Space-flown hiPSC-CMs [human induced pluripotent stem cell-derived cardiomyocytes] exhibited unchanged Ca2+ transient amplitude but showed a significant increase in transient decay tau (Figures 3E and S1) that is indicative of a decreased calcium recycling rate.

We also observed an increase in the standard deviation of beating intervals (Figure 3F) in space-flown hiPSC-CMs, indicating beating irregularity.

These results suggest that calcium-handling-related parameters remain altered for space-flown hiPSC-CMs following return to normal gravity.>

it can only be as good as who ever programmed it

Consumers and even regulators seem to think somehow software magically adapt to anything.

These sort of software environments need standards developed that deal with identified situations that it must satisfy in standardised testing as a starting point.

basicplus2··on Facebook Libra Is Architecturally Unsound
<Reading through the publications released, it is clear there is a fundamental deception in the stated goal and implementation of the project. Put concisely, this project will not empower anyone. It is a pivot from a company whose advertising business is so embroiled in scandal and corruption that it has no choice but to try to diversify into payments and credit scoring to survive. The clear long term goal is to act as a data broker and mediate consumers access to credit based on their private social media data. This is such an utterly terrifying and dystopian story that should cause more alarm than it does.>

<The overhead from the consensus algorithm serves no purpose and will only limit throughput of the whole system, and appears to be there here no reason other than apparently cargo culting public blockchain technology which is not designed for this use case.>

<Libra has no transaction privacy>

<The system is designed to be a very large way of replicating transactions to a number of external parties who under existing European and US bank secrecy laws should not be privy to the economic details.>

<Libra HotStuff BFT is not capable of achieving the throughput necessary for a payment rail.>

<Libra’s Move language is not sound.>

<Libra’s cryptography engineering is unsound.>

<Libra has no capacity for consumer protection mechanisms.>

The whole point of having human readable code is to help avoid being scammed, so having a code embedded that a human cant read but is what actually used for the link defeats the purpose

basicplus2··on Unexploded bomb safely defused by laser method
I could not understand what they were saying so i found this...

Researchers from the Laser Center Hannover (LZH), meanwhile, are working on "secure deflagration of live bombs by laser technology" (DEFLAG).

purpose is to cut indentations or breaking points into the shell of unexploded ordnance wherever the detonator cannot be removed safely – like in the Munich case.

What's the advantage of such a breaking point? Well, the metal body of the bomb is then weakened. It will break apart before the explosive in the bomb can build up its full pressure, meaning the bomb deflagrates, or combusts through heat transfer.

That results in a pressure wave that's not as strong, so the metal parts fly away more slowly than they otherwise would have. Avoid heat

This system has not been fully developed – yet.

The researchers will have until April 2019 to implement their ideas. Their greatest task

will be to cut the shell of the bomb and, at the same time, avoid heating the metal above 240 degrees Celsius (464 degrees Fahrenheit). That's where TNT ignites.

basicplus2··on Dr Sarah E. Hill: ‘A blind spot about how the pill influences women’s brains’
One of the best contraception methods of have ever heard of is Vas-occlusive contraception

Where a tiny blob of something is inserted and hardens inside the vas deferens, permanently blocking the sperms exit.

Years later when you want children a tiny incision is made in the vas and the blockage is popped out.

no messing with anybodys hormones.

Vas-occlusive contraception methods are expected to have similar side effects to vasectomy, such as formation of sperm antibodies, though with lower rates.

But... i have never seen it offered in the Western World as an option.

basicplus2··on The Consumer Electronics Hall of Fame: Philips UcD Audio Amplifier
"classes A and AB work by making output transistors conduct more or less current depending on the input signal. The scheme works very well, but it produces a lot of unwanted heat."

This is a white wash..

Class A gives you 100% of the original signal, Class B and onwards represent an ever degrading of the original signal.

If you are interested in quality of the signal you don't want anything to do with a Class D amplifier.

basicplus2··on We are on the cusp of a disruption in food and agricultural production
I dont think this is correct, food contains many trace elements and things we need that we dont fully understand.

Even slightly changing the natural feed of an animal we eat dramatically changes the quality and nutritional value.

thinking that you can so dramatically change the production (and only produce one part of a food - one of the proteins) all the other elements we need are lost.

It sounds like a recipe for malnutrition.

basicplus2··on Pagers, faxes and cheques: Things that might seem obsolete, but aren't
