battles··on Using Fibonacci numbers to convert from miles to kilometers and vice versa
That's what I was thinking. I good example of over-engineering though.
battles··on Nightshade: An offensive tool for artists against AI art generators
The person who drew it would definitely notice.
battles··on Which word begins with "y" and looks like an axe in this picture? (2017)
Wow. I've never seen someone so viciously nerd sniped in my life.
battles··on Ask HN: Would taking an iced coffee outside make your hand warmer or colder?
Your hand is warmer than both.
battles··on Neonmodem: TUI for Lobsters, HN, etc.
The terminal is rotatable. It's kinda neat.
battles··on I spent $100 to learn how to build and run RAG application in production
If you're gonna use bots to hype up your submissions, at least make them sound different.
battles··on Apple's new iPhone security setting keeps thieves out of your digital accounts
They do use it but you can force passcode requirement by holding down the power button until 'slide to power off' appears. From daringfireball: '(One way the scam would run: Chat up the victim in a bar, and offer to use the target’s phone to snap a photo of the victim and their friends. Surreptitiously lock the phone out of Face ID when handing it back to the victim. Then, when next the victim wants to do anything on their phone, they need to enter their passcode. Either the thief or a partner in a team gleans the passcode. Then they steal the phone, knowing the device passcode.)'
battles··on Cdpath: Easily Navigate Directories in the Terminal
That repo has an ad in its readme. Never seen that before.
battles··on Ask HN: How do you protect your open-source side projects from copycats?
Probably not the first time he's taken credit for someone else's idea. This quote from him in the subreddit is pretty funny. "Lots of discussion and outroar lately about Chrome and YouTube forcing ads on users via blocking ad-blockers. It led me to thinking about how I could address the problem with my existing skills." His 'particular set of skills' of taking ideas from HN and passing them off as his own.
battles··on Ask HN: Channel-Specific YouTube Player?
Is it this? https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=38378498

Those reasons sound even worse.

"Stanley's father Nan Zhong is an engineer and introduced coding to Stanley at a young age. Nan works at Google as a software engineering manager."
battles··on Driver hits woman in SF, then Cruise driverless car runs her over
In this case she did get an article. Apparently she was hit and knocked down by a human driver first and then the cruise ran her over.
battles··on Ask HN: How to prevent Safari from opening Mail on Cmd-I?
Have you tried changing your default mail app to Safari? It will still try to mail the page but you'll at least stay within Safari. That's the best solution I could find. https://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/261881/set-default...

Also found you on stackexchange while looking for an answer https://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/108060/how-to-prev...

Because someone else submitted it. Dupes happen, dude.

It's Nerf or nothin'
battles··on Samsung bans use of A.I. like ChatGPT for employees
If you think of it more as opening Pandora's box rather than open source then it's easier to swallow.
battles··on Disney Lays Off Ike Perlmutter, Chairman of Marvel Entertainment
Different part of Marvel. From the article:

battles··on Ask HN: Did Google remove the site:<url> feature from mobile?
If you disable javascript or cookies then you get the expected results. You could also just use duckduckgo for site: queries. Not sure what weird thing googles doing.
battles··on Ask HN: Why does Chrome's Dark Mode extension not work on HN?
It looks like hn uses the deprecated 'bgcolor' attribute for that part of the page which overrides the css for the extension. https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/HTML/Element/tr...
battles··on Does Apple not allow multiple timers for hardware reasons?
Why do you think iPhones only allow one timer? I've been using an app that has multiple timers for years on an iPhone 6s. If you're talking about the stock Clock app then you're probably right, they just didn't feel like adding a little more complexity to a stock app.
battles··on The Reality of Depending on True Fans (2008)
"The internet can also give us tools more narrowly to target specific demographics and to strengthen those assumptions that prevent acceptance of new ideas, nudging people towards algorithmically determined tastes or styles. Companies can use demographic models and track people’s search patterns to pander to their initial tastes and to strengthen those tastes, rather than broaden their horizons."

Pretty prescient for 2008.

battles··on Using ChatGPT to make Bash palatable
You can create a folder with a '.app' extension and put the script in there. Just make sure the script is executable with chmod and remove the '.sh' extension.

Apple literally owns a show called Carpool Karaoke
battles··on Play Windows Pinball (Space Cadet) on the Web
Same. I didn't even know this game had music. It's ruining my nostalgia high.
