benhurmarcel··on GPT-5.6 Sol can beat Factorio on peaceful mode
It certainly sounds like an actual factory in my experience
benhurmarcel··on French national assembly votes 0.055€/GB internet tax
The positive part is that this proposal has no chance of passing the senate at least
benhurmarcel··on Proton's CEO Cancels AI 'Re-Interviews'
Most recent criticism is about either: that they switched from selling licenses to subscriptions, that they stopped supporting self-hosting, that they use Electron, or that they financially support Omarchy/DHH.
benhurmarcel··on Bringing uv and ty together
How does pyrefly compare to mypy then?
benhurmarcel··on DeepSeek-v4.1-Flash-1017
I'm curious why you use Opus for planning and Sol for reviewing, instead of the same for both? Do you find they are better for those tasks?
benhurmarcel··on Muse Spark Open
What you don't one-shot rewrite your entire codebase every time a model comes out?
benhurmarcel··on An Apology
It's very well documented how to silence an Airtag, it doesn't take a drill.
benhurmarcel··on Ask HN: CAD for wood working with LLM support?
How do you prompt it? It seems it would be difficult to describe a 3d geometry correctly just with text. Do you provide hand-made sketches?
benhurmarcel··on Ask HN: CAD for wood working with LLM support?
Maybe they used the same LLM model
benhurmarcel··on Show HN: Pulse Local, a Mac budgeting app whose AI models run on your machine
The first thing I look for on that kind of page is a screenshot. Those shouldn't be so far down. Also way before showing your app, you show a massive video of a leaf, that's not what people are looking for.
benhurmarcel··on Thunderbird for iOS
It has a few annoyances. For example it doesn't let you see which email address the sender used, or to which of your email addresses it was sent, instead it only shows the person's name. Also it can't attach pictures without having them inline.
benhurmarcel··on Firefox Enterprise
Exactly. My company mandates Chrome or Edge with no extensions for work, and the SSO only works with these. I use Firefox in the side for browsing because IT doesn’t control it and I can block ads.
benhurmarcel··on Visa, Mastercard, major banks facing new litigation over 'anticompetitive' fees
It's getting more common but it's still not practical.

Typically on the web you need to select your bank, get redirected to your bank's website with a pre-filled transfer you validate, approve 2FA on your phone app, and then the purchase gets confirmed only 1 or 2 business days later when the transfer gets received.

I see small businesses just give you their IBAN too, and you need to manually add it and make a transfer. Not seamless at all.

benhurmarcel··on Gemini 4 Argon
My company is on Enterprise Plus, and we're still on 3.6 flash.
benhurmarcel··on Gemini 4 Argon
I also only have access to 3.6 flash on both my free personal account, and my professional Enterprise account.

Google just takes months to roll out their models to everyone.

benhurmarcel··on Tesla takes on $30B in credit as it approaches unprofitability
They skimp on plastic buttons, you think they'll include a HUD?
benhurmarcel··on Dots: Always-on agents
The agent needs you to pay for the subscription
benhurmarcel··on Excel now supports multiple values in a single cell
I did some spreadsheets that included matrix math. It would have been convenient to store the whole matrix into a single cell.
benhurmarcel··on Best LLM for every budget, updated daily
Same thing. I'm sure a subscription would be better value if I had enough usage, but I don't. With Deepseek or similar a few $ is quite a bit of usage already.
benhurmarcel··on Dropbox's Jan 1st 2027 terms of service
Sounds like git annex assistant https://git-annex.branchable.com/assistant/
benhurmarcel··on Show HN: Capsule – Single-file web apps that save their data into SQLite
In a corporate context it's basically impossible for employees to host an app anywhere. So an app that works entirely locally and you can send to colleagues sounds useful.
benhurmarcel··on Chopping up books when they're physically too big
It doesn't work that much on sites which organize comments in a tree, like HN or Reddit. You can just fold that part of the thread.
benhurmarcel··on Gemini 3.8 Live and 3.8 Live Extended Thinking
Google takes a long time to roll out models in general. Both my personal and work accounts still have only 3.6 Flash, even though 3.8 was released 2 weeks ago and 3.7 more than a month ago.
benhurmarcel··on New $100K H-1B Visa Fee Pushes Tech Jobs Offshore
Ranking by salary would basically mean ranking by industry, not just skill
benhurmarcel··on google.com/goto: Google's anti-scraping update
The 300 searches a month work for me because I only use Kagi when I think it will give better results than others. And most searches are trivial so any free engine will do (like you have the website name and want the url).
benhurmarcel··on Muse – Meta’s personal AI agent
Lots of companies have security policies that forbid installing a local agent/harness. So employees still only have access to the web chat interface, and copy paste content yes.
benhurmarcel··on Mistral raises €3B
That's pretty high for engineering in France though. Most engineers by far are way below that there, this is top management level.
benhurmarcel··on Ask HN: Advice on Migrating from 1Password?
But you still need to store the login and version number for each domain in a database. And provide the secret key. At this point you might as well store the encrypted password along with the rest.
benhurmarcel··on Tim Cook Sold Out Steve Jobs (2025)
There are ads in the Apps Store, and in Maps. Also ads for iCloud subscriptions in the settings if you don't use it.
benhurmarcel··on Woman stranded in Spain after UK's eVisa system mistakes her for twin sister
There is no requirement about that here. Anyway I only provide a printed copy, which the employee visually compares to the person.
