Then I could cancel the temp card and then finally Adobe can die whilst trying to charge my cancelled card. So depressing to read the non-stop political comments here. I’m using GLM at the moment, it’s Chinese and backed by god knows who, and no one cares. Good that it has an “allowed domain” list, makes it really useable. The OpenAI Responses api web search doesn’t let you limit domains currently so can’t make good use of it for client stuff.

The system is largely developed by Lockheed, Raytheon and Thales (all defense contractors). If there's a legal issue with SpaceX doing this I'm sure you'll hear about it.

Do these companies close on a week day, like they just don’t open on a Monday. Or do the staff just do 4 out of the 5 days, but the company operates all week and the team need coordinating so they have coverage all week? I’d love to do this at my place, but would want to close the whole business and I don’t think our clients would be happy.

I’ve thought this for months now, since GPT has become a go to tool I use it all the time for questions that Google has no chance of answering. E.g I’ve just played G - C - Am on my piano. What’s a good next chord? It understand music theory and gives about 5 optional chords and describes what each one may do for the song (add suspense, resolve something, lighten it, etc). Google feels really last gen very quickly. They’re basically AltaVista at this point. And ChatGPT is what AskJeeves claimed to be!

I haven’t got it to anything that appears to be posting a form or similar. The content has to be indexable on bing by the looks of things. The second it can submit forms the internet is doomed.

They are moving so fast. This week alone they’ve added web browsing and image as input. Must be a crazy place to work at the moment.

Yeah, I'm giving them too much credit and I was presuming you'd want to collect every piece of content written (news articles mainly) and that would be the context, but it'd be too much data for a prompt and probably not needed to create a book. I was thinking the book would actually be full of real world data and real commentary etc.

You could probably just ask GPT to come up with decent chapter headings for a book about a recent large wildfire and how it impacts climate change policy.

Then for each chapter heading give it a couple of pages of input info and ask it to write a chapter based on the content and the heading.

Bet it's a really bad book if this is even close to how it was made.

I can't have been OpenAi out of the box as it doesn't have the data, but it'd be quite easy to load in all the news articles about the situation to a custom model and then have it generate the book.

Totally wrong, Azure has loads of regions. We’re using 3 in our app (UK, France and US East). It’s rapid.

You should apply and use OpenAI on azure. We’ve got close to 1m tokens per minute capacity across 3 instances and the latency is totally fine, like 800ms average (with big prompts). They’ve just got the new 0613 models as well (they seem to be about 2 weeks behind OpenAI). We’ve been in production for about 3 months, have some massive clients with a lot traffic and our gpt bill is way under £100 per month. This is all 3.5 turbo though, not 4 (but that’s available on application, but we don’t need it).

Within the next 10 years I think we’ll have 1,000 mile ranges and ~30 min charge times. CATL just announced a doubling of the current best energy density, that alone could get a Tesla Model 3 to over 600 miles on a charge. At that point I think this conversation will stop and people will all switch. I agree though, at the minute if you don’t have the ability to charge at home you’re missing out on one of the absolute best features (always leaving the house with a full tank).

People always seem to be more forgiving of non violent crimes, but just have your house broken into whist you’re asleep with you kids in the house and it can seriously mess you up. It’s such a massive violation and you’ll struggle to sleep in that house again. I’d take a punch in the face any day of the week.

This is happening all over Europe and it’s only one of the two insanely popular models Tesla sell. My wife has a Polestar and it’s awesome (second best electric car manufacturer in my mind), but it can’t compete with my model 3.

Try a VW ID and see what you think of the software, in fact try any modern manufacturers software and compare it to Tesla. It’s always junk. The only reason the Polestar is close is because it’s native android running the show.

Tesla have a ton of issues, but the iPhone had a ton of issues when it launched, but if you were shouting about how good your blackberry keyboard was you were having the wrong conversation. I don’t think the other auto companies have embraced the paradigm shift that Tesla have introduced.

I bought a Brother monochrome laser printer (with built in scanner) for £250 and it was bundled with 6 spare toner cartridges. That was two years ago, we’re still on the first cartridge. The printer before that was also a monochrome laser printer and that lasted nearly a decade (only got rid of it because it didn’t support wireless and I couldn’t be bothered running cables anymore). Basically, I think monochrome lasers can last forever, they always work (even if I haven’t printed for 6 months). Most people seem to buy printers with way too many features and they need 7 ink cartridges etc. I rarely print anything, but when I do I want it to just work.

If I was more suspicious I’d be wondering if the sudden huge rise in ai was at all linked to the sudden huge waves of layoffs. Maybe all these big tech companies have seen something before the rest of us?

I think attributing GPT every time you use it is as stupid as attributing spell check when you use it. It’s a tool, not a person.

I didn’t do anything as amazing as you did, but in about 1999 I made a website with a nav menu “inspired” by the then current Microsoft website nav (it was all vbscript dhtml and I basically copy and pasted it from the ms site). I emailed them to check it was ok to copy their nav (it wasn’t even a commercial project so I don’t know why I was so polite), but they replied and they were really nice. They said they encourage “engineers” to create new things rather than copy, but anything I needed from their site I could take and then a load of links to dhtml resources in case I wanted to build my own. I wonder if you did that now would you just get a response from their legal team?

It’s easy to understand when you have lots of money, but no time. Cloud is simple and expensive, self managed is complex and cheap. Time’s money and all that!
