bernardom··on Brazilian farmers tokenized dairy cows to get loans, bypassing bank limits
Brilliant idea, but why the crypto? Couldn't you simply do the collar + web connection... without crypto?
bernardom··on Parallel coding agents with tmux and Markdown specs
git checkout four copies of your repo (repo, repo_2, repo_3, repo_4) within each one open claude code Works pretty well! With the $100 subscription I usually don't get limited in a day. A lot of thinking needs to go into giving it the right context (markdown specs in repo works for us)

Obv, work on things that don't affect each other, otherwise you'll be asking them to look across PRs and that's messy.

bernardom··on Autism's confusing cousins
You nailed it. I've spoken with doctors who were involved in changing DSM V to have a more inclusive definition of ASD with the express purpose of getting more kids access early intervention that they wouldn't with the PDD-NOS and other diagnoses from DSM IV.
bernardom··on Disney+ Subscribers Face a Wave of Cancellations
I'm about to be one of them if it incorrectly accuses me of not being in my primary household one more time. The anti-sharing crackdown is driving me crazy (we don't share!)
bernardom··on Coding without a laptop: Two weeks with AR glasses and Linux on Android
Oh, that's really cool though that they can handle it!

It's funny that 3500 seems sooo much to spend for hardware now... over the last 25 years, it's gotten so much cheaper between lower price macbooks and not needing to upgrade phones and laptops nearly so often.

bernardom··on Coding without a laptop: Two weeks with AR glasses and Linux on Android
How do glasses like this work for someone who wears eyeglasses for myopia and astigmatism, and doesn't like contacts?
bernardom··on US vs. Google amicus curiae brief of Y Combinator in support of plaintiffs [pdf]
They won't be killed, they'll be forced to stand up as their own businesses, like the Baby Bells after Ma Bell broke up, or the split of Standard Oil.

I can see most of these being reasonable standalone businesses. And if they can't be they'll die and get replaced by one that is better.

bernardom··on Nakatomi Space
"sadly, the series is unremarkable for the fact that each film is substantially worse than the one before"

Patently false! The third is better than the second.

bernardom··on TimeGuessr: Guess what year a photograph was taken
So addictive. Awesome idea.
bernardom··on Show HN: A color picker for named web colors
Cool way to learn some of these. Does anyone know why "Peru" is #CD853F, a brown? It has nothing to do with the flag (which is red and white).

(Aside: the word "peru" in Portuguese means turkey, like the bird. I somehow doubt this is related.)

bernardom··on Stripe responds to the Financial Connections/Plaid kerfuffle
"NBA players are literally paid to entertain us. They should just absorb the verbal abuse."

"Waiters are literally paid..."

Or we could be humans?

bernardom··on Ask HN: Tools to visualize data in SQL databases?
I've had bad experiences with superset (though it may have been misconfigured).

On the other hand, Redash has served my startup really well for the first 3 years (and now we're finally moving to Tableau)

bernardom··on Show HN: Clone your voice and speak a foreign language
This is very cool. I recorded myself in Portuguese -> Portuguese and got the same result.

I also did Pt -> En and sounded like... me speaking English, though with some artifacts. VERY cool.

bernardom··on Ask HN: Favorite Podcast Episode of 2021?
The CGP Grey videos on the city of London are pretty great too: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LrObZ_HZZUc
bernardom··on Walking the World: Bucharest
I think part of it is practice and part is being a big dude.

Check out his book, Dignity. Super good. He does this in the US, hanging in the “worst” neighborhoods. So he has lots of practice.

bernardom··on Walking the World: Bucharest
Chris, I’m surprised to see (on your Twitter feed) that you didn’t know HN. You’ll like it, sometimes.

Dignity was a lovely book and a really nice counter-narrative to the Trump vs Dems story that was (is?) dominating the news.

bernardom··on At the world's oldest social housing, rent hasn't changed since 1521
The book The Richest Man Who Ever Lived is riveting. The guy bankrolled kings, wrote a collections letter to the Holy Roman Emperor, etc. etc.
bernardom··on Building a data team at a mid-stage startup
Very happy heap customer here. Been using it since 2016 or so and brought it from last company to my current startup. Autocapture is magic.
bernardom··on Canada weather: Dozens dead as heatwave shatters records
Fort Mac is the coldest place I've ever been to, by far. I saw the wrong side of minus 40 there ("F or C?" "Both!").

Crazy to think of it that hot.

bernardom··on Apple pays out millions to student after repair techs shared her personal images
Thank you. I was CRYING at the last link.
bernardom··on Microsoft president: Orwell’s 1984 could happen in 2024
Is there a telestrator in your living room that will cause you to go to jail if you mutter something negative about the government?
bernardom··on Ask HN: Who is hiring? (March 2021)

bernardom··on John le Carré has died
A Perfect Spy is a phenomenal novel. I'm so sad I'll never walk into a bookstore and see a new Le Carre again.
bernardom··on Amazon met with startups about investing, then launched competing products
I don't understand how anyone is shocked by this.
bernardom··on San Francisco Residents Are Leaving at an Unprecedented Rate
That's the million dollar question. When I feel not unsafe moving my family cross country?

We'll obviously need to accept some level of risk to do that, unless we're willing to wait for vaccines or herd immunity, as you pointed out. But it may well be a year.

bernardom··on San Francisco Residents Are Leaving at an Unprecedented Rate
New York area. It's expensive, but it's where family is.

I wouldn't be surprised if COVID pushes a lot of people to be nearer family.

bernardom··on San Francisco Residents Are Leaving at an Unprecedented Rate
As soon as COVID is over we're out.
bernardom··on Ask HN: What's your remote work chair?
Wow, where did you find the used Steelcases?

I've been looking for used Aerons, but there's a lot of scare stories about franken-chairs.

bernardom··on It’s Time to Build
We literally have one; see #6:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uniformed_services_of_the_Unit...

But I agree- what if we treated it as seriously as [can't believe this is a real thing] the Space Force.

bernardom··on Robinhood maxed out credit line last month amid market tumult
You think the VC investors of a brokerage get access to individual customer transaction data?

I'm sure it's happened before, but I have to imagine such a thing is incredibly rare and illegal if violating the stated privacy policy (due to GLB law).
