bgray··on Cloud Run – Newest member of our serverless compute stack
Can you compare Google Run to App Engine Flex? They sound similar.
bgray··on Server Retired After 18 Years Running on FreeBSD 2.2.1 and a Pentium 200MHZ
But do you? You really only need to restart the processes using those packages. Technically, a kernel update (specifically security update, bug fixes may not be important) would only require a reboot.

bgray··on Show HN: My seven minute workout timer evening project
Ahh yes... I did miss that because of screen size. You should optimize for smaller screens. :)
bgray··on Show HN: My seven minute workout timer evening project
I'd like to see the rest screen contain information about the next exercise. This would give time to prepare.
bgray··on GitHub was unavailable due to what appeared to be another DDoS attack
The downvote isn't whether the comment was warranted but rather that it didn't add value to the conversation.
bgray··on Google Maps becomes the App Store’s most popular free app in 7 hours
While I understand what you're implying, you need to realize people depend on these devices. If they didn't exist, yes, people would find other ways (as they have in the past).
bgray··on How to Succeed as an Introvert
Excellent! Do you have any resources for helping yourself become more "visible"?
bgray··on All Programmers Are Self-Taught
I find myself very good at picking up small examples of code. I think the real challenge in programming isn't learning how if statements, loops, arrays, etc. work but how to put them together to do what you want. This is the real challenge and I believe this is a combination of self-teaching (maybe experiences) and natural ability.
bgray··on Verizon 4G LTE is down, nationwide outage confirmed
Very good points. It would be interesting to hear (technically) from Verizon about the issues and resolution.

> 4. Ask what is considered good code. Read it. Study it.

Any suggestions?

bgray··on Warren Buffett is now betting against the US dollar
My question is, how can we (normal people, inside the US and outside) take advantage of the situation?
bgray··on Firefox 4 is here
Upvoted. Thanks for the link!
bgray··on Firefox 4 is here
Right. Is it just me or does it seem that most (if not all) of the new features in this release were inspired by Chrome? What is Firefox doing to move the web browsing experience forward?
bgray··on Simple Truths Smart People Forget
#7. Though this example may be hold true, I don't always relate corporate promotions to being 'good' at something. One thing that I've definitely learning is the people you know (your 'visibility') is as important (maybe more) than what you know.
bgray··on Google offers engineer $3.5M to not leave for Facebook
This is the market at it's best. I've heard from many times that Google's salaries aren't competitive but rely on the "you will change the world" mentality. Google pulls in the talent and Facebook gets to cherry pick.
bgray··on Ask HN: How much compensation would you like from "Hacker Monthly"?
I would like to say nothing but I know some authors won't want to be included without the magazine being free in some form. I'm afraid this will jeopardize the quality of the articles and reduce overall readership. How about making the electronic (only) version free (again) and giving author credit/promotion.
bgray··on The App Store is slow, so I built App Store Instant
I also have instant overload but I must admit, this is one of the better instant apps I've seen! And no begging for a job. :)
bgray··on Today was my last day @ Yahoo. I made a video to commemorate the occasion.

I was wondering the same thing until I saw it linked from his account on Twitter.

It does. It's weak though...
bgray··on Ask HN: So HNers, whatd'ya get for Christmas?
For Christmas I got an ESX losing power and bringing ~10 clients down with it. Merry Christmas!
bgray··on Novice CL user writes mysql access in CL as an exercise
Yes! Writing something significant is a great way to learn a language. I have also learned a great deal from solving the Euler Project problems. Either way, just get your hands dirty!
bgray··on Stop being a productivity nerd, and chill out
This reminds me of another post which had a great quote, "Make Lists. Not Too Much. Mostly Do."
bgray··on Google releases a Chrome extension to identify web app performance problems
Very Nice! Now we need extension support on OSX Chrome even more! :)
bgray··on Ask HN: The older you are, the more you want to see non-tech on HN?
I completely agree. If you don't want to tech related material there are many great websites for that (just not HN).
