bhashkarsharma··on Judge temporarily blocks U.S. ban on TikTok downloads from U.S. app stores
There are a couple of Indian apps[0] trying to replicate Tiktok functionality. Many of them saw a surge in usage after Tiktok got banned. Not sure about the current numbers though.

bhashkarsharma··on It’s Time to Get Back to RSS
The issue there was collection of massive amounts of public data by Facebook. Open data APIs can be used to build nice things, if the data isn't user information.
bhashkarsharma··on Facebook's “free internet” programme hits a roadblock in India
The difference is that if you choose to go to any URL, you can (not considering device capability and support; flash etc) from any of your devices. And what you pay to go to one website is the same amount that you pay to go to a different website as long as you use the same amount of data. Data rates being different across networks is a different issue.
bhashkarsharma··on Ask HN: My 12 year old nephew wants to make a game, how do I help him?
You can check out MIT App Inventor. It uses scratch. Here's an example of a game: http://appinventor.mit.edu/explore/ai2/space-invaders.html

bhashkarsharma··on Peter Thiel Is Wrong About the Future
Wow! That far? I feel sad. Kurzweil had me hopeful that I'd be able to use it in next 30 years.
bhashkarsharma··on Apple’s dangerous game
With all due respect, being somewhat of a privacy and security freak (although I use social networks etc.), all I can read while going through the article is a crybaby whining about how it is harder than before to get user data.

The article makes an assumption that the warrants and the snooping is only done in legal and genuine cases, which has been continuously been proved wrong lately. Not to mention all the secret courts, FISA orders etc

bhashkarsharma··on Twitter's GIF hack
I think http://www.reddit.com/r/brokengifs collects such things.
bhashkarsharma··on Bad scrolling by Microsoft
Can someone open it in IE and confirm whether it works better than on other browsers? That'd be a first.
bhashkarsharma··on Ask HN: Screenshot Saturday
Nothing fancy, just a bouncing ball in canvas that follows the laws of gravity and elasticity.

bhashkarsharma··on MLB.com is using my Google Analytics code
Coincidentally, our site redesign was internally being worked on, and we updated the site in a day or two.

We decided it is not worth going through the hassle of chasing someone who claims their expertise to be cloning a website.

That's the product they were selling. Clone websites. And I daresay they proved their competence by cloning ours.

bhashkarsharma··on MLB.com is using my Google Analytics code
One morning, we woke up to see Google Analytics sending us data from an external site. When we opened that link, it turned out to be a clone of our website.

They had crawled the entire site (which was designed by our partners) and replaced the logos and text. The GA code was still there.

bhashkarsharma··on Show HN: Responsive web app in JavaScript on HTML5stac
Thanks for pointing out the issues and the valuable feedback. We didn't expect such a great response and hit the throttling limits on our APIs. We are addressing these issues.
bhashkarsharma··on I am selling social interaction
This post reminded me of this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LeAkYuMDVGY
bhashkarsharma··on Google’s “20% time,” which brought you Gmail and AdSense, is now as good as dead
Are you implying that the tables have turned?
bhashkarsharma··on Cyberscare: Ex-NSA chief calls transparency groups, hackers next terrorists
Reminds me of "All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others".
bhashkarsharma··on JavaScript Isn't Scheme
Very well and funnily written, among other things. Thoroughly enjoyed :)
bhashkarsharma··on Show HN: Easy Email Encryption inside Gmail (Alpha, Open-Source)
A whiff of those advertising dollars and the "care" flies out of the window. Also, search would not be possible.
bhashkarsharma··on Why to use Twitter, Facebook and Google Plus share links and not buttons
I love how security expert Bruce Schneier (https://www.schneier.com) has implemented it. This also gives you an ability to see how popular an article is (based on the sharing numbers) if you want, which is another purpose these widgets serve.
bhashkarsharma··on What if Google starts doing it?
That's a valid concern. I'm not asking to go with a totally unheard-of outfit, but we can take a call depending on the particular use case. For instance, as a note-taking app I've stuck with Evernote for 2+ years now, and I don't see a reason to switch to Google Keep. I love the single-sign-on and all the auto-integration goodies that come as a part of Google suite, but that is not what you are always looking for.
bhashkarsharma··on HN Meetup, Bangalore
Will try dropping in if it happens at a place like Barleyz.
bhashkarsharma··on News is bad for you – and giving up reading it will make you happier
I remember reading (can't recall the source right now) that a study conducted over multiple newspapers over a period of time revealed that 95% of news carry a negative tone. Add this to the fact that most news channels focus on trivia more than important issues and I have a perfect reason to not dive into news. I still sneak a peek at any interesting story that shows up on my twitter stream though.
bhashkarsharma··on I'm a loser and I want to change that - now
Damn! I remember getting drunk last night, but can't recall writing this post. It sounds like me, except that I have a few years on my hands before I hit 30.
bhashkarsharma··on India blocks 73 URLs criticizing IIPM, an MBA college
Thanks for removing 'educational institution' from the description. IIPM is probably an educational institution as much as a circus is a wildlife reserve.
bhashkarsharma··on Impress.js demo - presentation program
I used it to give a talk at Droidcon hacknight. Here's a <dark> video :) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oYiSuxPpJTg
bhashkarsharma··on Instagram's official response
Is it just me who feels that it is just a re-run of the classic 'Zuck' way of doing things: Make mistake and apologize when it blows up? What's happening inside the company is any outsider's guess, but I definitely don't feel reassured.
bhashkarsharma··on Goodbye Facebook.
I did the same thing 2 weeks back. People whom I meet keep asking, but honestly, I haven't missed it for one second. I wrote a little something about it http://tumblr.bhashkar.me/post/23712148539/why-i-deactivated...
bhashkarsharma··on Introducing Syte, An open sourced personal site that has social integrations
Thanks for building it :) I loved the part about having responsive design baked in and it being on top of django (since that's one framework I know the best). Myself have been thinking of building something similar for a while.
