Trump thinks "artificial" means "fake". He is obsessed with real vs fake: fake news, realDonaldTrump.
bifftastic··on Spinal: A near-instant, predictive surface for any codebase
OK so I'm supposed to know what a predictive surface is now?
bifftastic··on MCP was always a bad idea?
Not sure why the title on HN ends with a question mark. It's grammatically incorrect and not in the original article

bifftastic··on Ten advances in mathematics and theoretical computer science
Any advances in theoretical physics yet? Are there any fundamental obstacles? I would have thought not, but I haven't seen anything reported.
bifftastic··on Ear Training Practice
One comment - the perfect pitch exercise becomes a relative pitch exercise as soon as you get one note right. I don't believe I have perfect pitch but I got 100% on the quiz I just did.

This is amazing

There is a theory connecting gauge theory and finance:

https://arxiv.org/abs/hep-th/9710148

https://www.amazon.com/Physics-Finance-Modelling-Non-Equilib...

I don't think it's a crackpot theory. The basic idea is that the gauge group is the group of rescalings of the units of money, and arbitrage appears as curvature in the gauge field, i.e. you end up with a net change when you parallel-transport money around a loop in the (discrete) space of assets and time.

Thank you for your reply. It's quite a sad situation.
bifftastic··on Backblaze seemingly does not support files greater than 1 TB
Actually to be fair on BB you can override this behaviour. But you have to know...
bifftastic··on Backblaze seemingly does not support files greater than 1 TB
Backblaze does not back up disk images. It's a documented limitation.

I just found this out the hard way.

Anyone know the latest on the Apple Silicon port of CCL? The new mailing list doesn't seem to have a publicly-accessible archive.

Is this actually new? See here: https://www.nature.com/articles/s41598-017-16621-w - discussed here: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=24669593

It's even been in Wild Kratts!

bifftastic··on Buffalo buffalo Buffalo buffalo buffalo buffalo Buffalo buffalo
Am I the only one who just doesn't find this very interesting? I mean it's just a coincidence that "buffalo" is a verb in American English and also a place name, as well as an animal.

I just don't think this leads anywhere interesting.

bifftastic··on Lisping at JPL Revisited
I wasn't aware of this:

Clozure Associates is no longer a going concern, and the volunteer effort to port CCL to the M1 appears to have stalled.
Sad news if true (and I have no reason to doubt it). I had kind of assumed that an M1 version of CCL would appear as a matter of course.

Unusual subject matter to see on HN. Thanks for posting.
bifftastic··on Ask HN: Alternatives to The Economist?
You could look at the LRB (London Review of Books). While obviously it is mostly book reviews there are other essays in there too. The writing is rather literary, which may or may not be a positive, but it is entirely free of clickbait. It's probably the nearest thing to a left-wing equivalent of The Economist.
bifftastic··on Ask HN: Alternatives to The Economist?
I have recently bailed too - I was subjected to multiple exit interviews when cancelling my subscription (two online and one over the phone). This certainly put me right off resubscribing at any point in the future.
