Isnt this a very python thing. Arent all the "brillant jerks" python and ruby programmers. Java and C/C++ guys are the actually smart dudes that know what they are doing and PHP guys just want to get it working and dont give a fuck.

why python???? ... any language with functions will do. I mean just create a java class with all public static functions if you want it to work like python (global functions). Its really language agnostic. Your answer will be a number a string or a list of things. All languages can do that.

Im making an explicit opinion that python is no better than any other language for implementing algorithms. HN please prove me wrong in an objective way so we may all learn?

Yahoo has something you cant buy. Yahoo has what makes facebook unique and google plus suk. A user base, an fing large one. This discussion is not really for hacker news. We are techies, this is a talk for business men. If anyone has ad sales experience please step up and speak to the value of yahoo. Aol would love to have the inventory of yahoo in its graps and looks like they will finally get it.

Security is for techies, I dont think yahoo's user base cares as much as lets say githubs. So while bad, its context that will help here.

The fact that I can display petabytes or a kilobyte of data with the same query and the same frontend markup just depending on the query string parameter leads me to believe you dont really know web dev.
