bigkm··on The High-Risk Refactoring
how does that assumption work? I would have thought that assumption would lead one to care less.
bigkm··on A Boeing passenger jet's nose wheel fell off just before takeoff
A 31 year old plane. This is more likely a delta issue than Boeing's.
bigkm··on Do we think of Git commits as diffs, snapshots, and/or histories?
My answer is Yes.
bigkm··on After ChatGPT disruption, Stack Overflow lays off 28 percent of staff
*rely
bigkm··on Brute.Fail: Watch brute force attacks fail in real time
I agree, these attacks are looking for systems that have pretty default security, and by running on a different port you avoid all this automated chaos because you're non default now. Like scam emails with typos, a way to filter out the naïve people.
bigkm··on Freedom Clock
Same for Australian English.
bigkm··on Tesla was likely on autopilot in deadly fire truck crash in Bay Area, feds say
Auto pilot in a plane will still fly you into whatever is in front of you.

bigkm··on GM’s Former President Calls for the End of Car Ownership
The real life Gavin Belson
bigkm··on Cname cloaking, a disguise of third-party trackers
What if there were restrictions on these with regards to ttl, it would put the burden back on the trackers, they wouldn't be able to swap and change them as quick and very quickly run out of options.
bigkm··on Today’s Top Tech Skills
I think if you a machinist/mechanical eng you possess this trait, you have almost all the tools to make other machines that make new machines, but this is is kind of limited to this one discipline, whereas software we can almost build anything. In a previous profession I learnt this great lesson where we would occasionally build specific tools for specific jobs if we didn't have the correct machines to save sending parts out to be machined or even for doing backyard jobs.
bigkm··on Instagram to test hiding like counts in the US
I almost think the like counts being visible to the creator is also detrimental. When you post something you get that happy feeling seeing the like count of it, it makes you feel good and then you keep checking on it regularly which is a problem, and why I don't post anymore.
bigkm··on Tesla Model 3 Cost of Ownership Slightly Cheaper Than a Camry
These cars aren't even remotely comparable when you look at performance.
bigkm··on The three words that can save your life
It has to be an add, if they could download the app they surely could've sent their location to someone
bigkm··on Lawsuit: Autopilot didn't prevent Model 3 from driving under semi at 68 MPH
It does exactly what autopilot does in a plane. Which will slam into anything in its path.
bigkm··on Why does /usr/share/dict/words contain “manbird” on OS X?
For anyone wondering this is the source dictionary of the look command.
bigkm··on I tried to keep my unborn child secret from Facebook and Google
As much as I hate targeted advertising, which leaves you in a silo, categorised, with no hope of ever seeing an ad for something you would buy but didn't know existed.

But if drive past a billboard or there's a poster on the door you're going through, you'll still see this and it will probably bring up bad feelings. Is that correct? Or is it just that the targeted ones are trying to be more personal, whilst getting it so wrong?

bigkm··on Zuckerberg told execs the company's at 'war,' called media coverage 'bulls---'
Junkies keep going back even though they are trying their hardest to stop too.
bigkm··on U.S. Robocall Data
Go buy a sim from another state and then you know not to answer any of those calls.

A/B testing ?
bigkm··on Apple's Growing Bet on Hardware
Well most of the software is free, you tell me. :)
bigkm··on Ask HN: How can I become a self-taught software engineer?
In that line of thinking this askhn basically makes it impossible for op. Like going and buying a self-help book is getting help (thanks George C.)
bigkm··on Two-thirds of Americans approve of editing human DNA to treat disease
But `we` won't eat gmo food?
bigkm··on Developer accidentally deletes 3 months of work with Visual Studio Code
This is more of a backup lesson.
bigkm··on Developer accidentally deletes 3 months of work with Visual Studio Code
My response to this person would be:

well you're going to have to restore from backup.

Oh you don't have a backup? Why not? (Some excuse) LOLZ

bigkm··on Fun at the Unix Terminal
It's a shame the author polarizes having fun and learning. I've always thought of them as the same.

Once it sticks and everyone is using it, then shut it down
bigkm··on They Used To Last 50 Years
This isn't sustainable, these antics of these companies are basically negating any positive thing you try and do for the environment
