bigmattystyles··on Patrick Stewart has died
Picard is the best by a mile, which is great praise because I liked Janeway and Sisko a lot too.
bigmattystyles··on Patrick Stewart has died
Same - also a good allegory for not trusting AI.
bigmattystyles··on Patrick Stewart has died
Is it a utopia? On earth and in the federation they make it seem so, at least post-scarcity but at the edges of the federation you have Romulans, the Borg, Cardassians. Multiple main characters undergo torture, etc... It would make an interesting TV show / spin off where people are shuffling / politicking for power in a post-scarcity world.
bigmattystyles··on Patrick Stewart has died
As campy as TNG can be, there are so many moral themes and dillemas and Stewart's Picard always grounded them with his dedication to his craft. RIP.
bigmattystyles··on AI coding agents generate more code, but not more software
For me reading ai code feels a lot like that time I tried reading Joyce. I don’t understand but I’m sure it’s beautiful.
bigmattystyles··on AI less regulated than milk, Microsoft president says in warning over safety
Do they want regulation because they are behind and want the brakes applied to others so they can catch up using their huge pile of money, or are they so ahead they want to stifle the rest? My money, based on copilot is on the former.
bigmattystyles··on US closely monitoring case of lab worker who possibly died of plague in Siberia
Worse yet, this is contained but Putin will use it to argue against foreign actors weakening him further because 'think of the consequences`. I hate how paranoid this timeline has made me.
bigmattystyles··on Paul A. M. Dirac, Interview by Friedrich Hund (1982) [video]
Are the two middle initials necessary? Any other notable Paul Dirac's?
bigmattystyles··on OpenAI bots knew about the RubyGems caching vulnerability
From an infosec/networking stand point, aren’t still actively loading the site? Whether it’s in a preview window or not?
bigmattystyles··on IBM Bob
I'm convinced they do and they're trolling us.How many 100s of 1000s in consulting do you think it took to come up with Bob?
bigmattystyles··on Ex-Crips leader found guilty in 1996 murder of rapper Tupac Shakur
I mean Suge was driving the car and Tupac in the passenger seat. Seems risky.
bigmattystyles··on Infrastructure as Raclette
I'm trying to find a good analogy for what it would be called when they have the cheese melting by the fireplace in restaurants.
bigmattystyles··on OpenLogi
Seems nuts that you would go through the trouble of air gapping a system then use a Bluetooth keyboard.

"What would you say you do here?" - The Bobs
bigmattystyles··on Site removes all the clutter from recipe videos and gives just the recipe
I swear someone tried to do this pre-llms and they got harangued out of existence by the content creators.
bigmattystyles··on Apple Will 'Watch Everything Burn' When AI Bubble Bursts
It's so popular to think this is a bubble. Some aspects likely are, but the zeal for this to be a bubble is disturbing to me. I get that there will be winners and if you're not one of them, you might be more likely to want this thing to pop. In my mind, that's not the right disposition, you should want the gains to be spread as equitably as possible.
bigmattystyles··on Read this before you buy that TV streaming stick
To be fair, everything is Chinese made. I would be even the Apple TV and NVIDIA Shield are made in China and if a state actor is determined to get a malicious payload in....
bigmattystyles··on I'm 38 and I Can't Support Myself Anymore
Except mental health conditions in these plans seem limited to 2 years. For all the talk of mental health is health, this seems to run directly counter to that.

My 99 manual A4 is looking better all the time. Turns out more reliable too.
bigmattystyles··on Professor's invisible prompt trap catches 32/35 students cheating with AI
Don't look at how people submit code in industry then.
bigmattystyles··on Exercise works for depression. So why isn't it treated like real medicine?
It should be encouraged but even accounting for side-effects, taking a pill is easy. From personal experience, when I'm heavily depressed, I can barely get out of bed or eat. Forget exercise.
bigmattystyles··on Show HN: Brolly, a plain-text weather forecast site
Weird, on my iPhone it loaded instantly.
bigmattystyles··on Punch yourself in the face with reality
3 pages of reply or overly verbose code, often without abstractions - I read all the posters here and in other forums say that programming has shifted towards reviewing AI output rather than coding said output manually; I agree, however, I just don't buy that everyone is actually reviewing the code as intensely as one would expect - there is a tendency that arrived rather quickly to assume that the AI is correct and efficient. I guess the ultimate reviewer is another AI agent I guess.
bigmattystyles··on What will be left for us to work on?
Yes, AI code generation is the same.
bigmattystyles··on What will be left for us to work on?
Are you the one who wrote it though or just the one who wrote prompts? Not that it matters in the end…
bigmattystyles··on Why write code in 2026
That’s why even though 99% of my work is C#, llms have made it so I can finally call myself a low-level programmer, which I’ve always aspired to. I didn’t even have to do anything.
bigmattystyles··on How the terrorist group Boko Haram uses frontier AI
You need Jean Claude for that.
