Turning on logging and seeing bots for the first time does not equate to novel or specifically crafted attacks. Web services get hit regularly by bots. A few dozen an hour is almost nothing for a public facing web service.
US bases were also attacked remotely this year too, but yet this attack was still "unprecedented" to the upper management of these grocer chains. Smells like incompetence to me personally.
This isn't unprecedented at all, several US bases were hit with this same thing in the last couple months. These companies security officers just aren't paying attention.
Indeed it is one in the same. The middle layer of MacOS has been rotting for years, the introduction of gatekeeper and SIP has made downloading and running programs or observing your system a pain. Software developers are being pushed toward App models and many other examples exist. For people who simply need a computer that works MacOS is moving futher away from that goal with every release.
The people saying programming is solved couldn't program in the first place is what I've noticed. So to them it really does feel solved, things "work" and they don't have to learn what they don't know about programming.
Honestly I think this thread has just devolved to HPC admins vs people who don't understand how shared multiuser sytems work cause they've been stuck on a laptop for too long to remember.
I don't even believe AI is a threat in any way and I'm still looking for a way to leave tech because of it. I'm sick of hearing about it, answering questions about it, course correcting projects that have gone off the rails because "AI was going to do it", building up GPU clusters at a frantic pace that sit idle or do work that provides no value, telling people "AI" is not a real term/thing and that we've been using these systems in research for 20+ years and that really only a minor change has happened in the last several years, listening to my coworkers yap about whatever model they downloaded today that they'll have binned by tomorrow, internal teams not getting properly supported because they aren't on the "AI first team or division", watching people dump sensitive info into a chatbot, users breaking systems cause they've spawned 50k processes that they have no idea what they're doing, etc, etc. It's exhausting and has sapped what little fun remained in tech for me.
Requiring thousands of node packages to malformat text for people who can't be bothered to not use a phone to read a webpage seems to be the common definition of responsive these days.
