blablablaat··on Remind HN: Chrome starts warning for non-HTTPS sites this week

blablablaat··on LineageOS for microG – Access Google services without closed software
Finally! Until now after each LineageOS update I had to connect phone to adb, and patch with tingle or needle to re-enable signature spoofing. Great solution, shame the LineageOS devs won't just add this as an flashable zip or configurable option.
blablablaat··on LineageOS for microG – Access Google services without closed software
I can't use Signal or my local railway app without Google Cloud Messaging. So I have two choices: - Don't use them - Install Google crapware package - Install microG, which supplies the APIs so other apps can function normally
blablablaat··on LineageOS beats Google to the punch, fixes 'KRACK' WPA2 vulnerability in Android
The only difference I see, is that LineageOS users are safe now (or when next built is compiled). Android users will have to wait for months, if they'll get an update at all.
blablablaat··on Moxie Marlinspike Makes Encryption for Everyone
I can understand that he sets his own priorities. But in this case someone else took the sourcecode, built the app and published it to F-Droid.

The only thing Moxie had to do was not threaten them with legal action.

blablablaat··on Moxie Marlinspike Makes Encryption for Everyone
Not for people who don't want Google on their device.

He only wants distribution via Google, and even went as far to demand that free/libre Play-alternative F-droid removed their build of TextSecure.

blablablaat··on Entering Public Beta
Yes this is possible. The only verification is that you are able to react to certain HTTP requests sent to port 80 on your domain.

blablablaat··on Switch your default search engine to Google
Add !g to search on google. Or !gi for google images, !gn for google news, !w for wikipedia, etcetera. See https://duck.co/help/results/syntax for more tricks.

And yes I'm using it in daily life.

blablablaat··on Google Play Store: Browsing with Firefox is no longer supported on Android
I switched back to firefox after google turned evil.
blablablaat··on Make Your Own Programming Language
Same here. My dnsmasq server responds with the domain name when I try it with 'host', but curl and firefox fail on Debian and Ubuntu with only that 1 DNS server in resolv.conf. Curl says "curl: (6) Could not resolve host: mattias-.github.io".

However, curl and firefox seem to be RFC-compliant. RFC952 states: "The last character must not be a minus sign or period."

blablablaat··on The Pirate Bay is counting down
Same, but you will miss some torrents. Both torrentz.eu and kat.ph are complying with DMCA requests.
blablablaat··on There’s a simple alternative to the current web
Y U no archive.org?
blablablaat··on Don't use Firefox for privacy
I only see traffic when typing in the search bar, not when using the location bar as stated in the article. And only when I set my search engine to Google instead of DuckDuckGo.
blablablaat··on Ask HN: My mom called me, but I got someone else. How can I report this bug?
Both phone-companies have extensive logs of all calls. Using them to troubleshoot problems however always means manually reading every step. Because of this labor intensity and the privacy aspect (do you want every helpdesk-agent to look at the real source of anonymous calls?) I doubt you can convince them to research this, unless it's something that occurs frequently.
blablablaat··on Ask HN: 16-hour work week jobs?
Sounded good untill I read: "I sincerely think it is quite unrealistic to ask a knowledge worker".

What is this with you programmers that you think that you're the best thing that has happend to this world? It's just a job. No more a job then any other one.

Same thing as that bullshit as companies that want every employee to program. Do you see CEO's with a background as a carpenter writing blogposts about how everybody should build at least a chair every month?

Self obsessed rich kids.

blablablaat··on An analysis of Lionel Messi
"This content is not available in your location."

Fuck off.

blablablaat··on IPv6 support for 4chan
Already fixed in dev branch: https://gitweb.torproject.org/https-everywhere.git/commitdif...
blablablaat··on I am a successful software dev but I have a serious drinking problem
you americans are so silly :D
blablablaat··on Ask HN: Modern web mail application to self-host email?
Currently in active (crowdfunded) development, but I would recommend www.mailpile.is once it's more stable. Crypto, security, privacy and everything that gmail does.
blablablaat··on Backdoor found in Linksys, Netgear Routers
This is probably NOT a backdoor.

Most likely your ISP is using a technique like TR-069. This enables them to push settings for voip/TV, and in your friends case wifi. A lot of DSL providers are starting to use this for less intrusive (?) goals like measuring noise and attenuation at the clients end once a day, so they can adjust the speed accordingly.

AVM is a very nice company and you should not accuse them without proof. They actually provide an option to disable TR-069 in the page "Provider Services" ("Allow automatic configuration by the service provider" and "Allow automatic updates"). If you don't have this option you could try installing the original firmware from avm.de. Maybe you are still able to flash the modem with the original firmware from , and configure it yourself?
