  std::string_view username = Sanitize("foobarbazboo");
                                        ^- temporary std::string created here

  std::string_view Sanitize(const std::string& input) { ... }
^ ^- reference to that temporary string
+- returns a view to a temporary string

std::string_view username = // possibly data freed and dangling string
blastonico··on My Humble Opinion on 'Omarchy' OS
I would have titled it: My Humble Opinion on Why Not to Use Omarchy.
blastonico··on C Is Not a Low-Level Language (2018)
In this sense, not even assembly is a low-level language because an instruction may hide what the microcode is actually doing.

IMHO, C is the lowest level a procedural programming language can get.

blastonico··on Running Doom on Our Custom CPU and Going Viral
> but I guess that's just a 486

*just* a 486. :-(

blastonico··on Zig Creator Calls Spade a Spade, Anthropic Blows Smoke
There are billions of lines of garbage code out there written in C, C++, Java, you name it. So much garbage, it has driven people to create languages with tighter guardrails to help programmers.

Yet, I've never seen those language creators blame anyone else. I don't recall Bjarne Stroustrup lashing out at people migrating from C++ to Java, Rust, or anything else.

Maybe humility is just a generational thing.

blastonico··on Top researchers leave USA for the Netherlands (in Dutch)
Who are those "top" researchers? and how many?
blastonico··on The C to Rust migration book
> there's been a massive increase in people migrating from C to Rust due to LLMs.

Strange. I was expecting the opposite move as LLMs know the C pitfalls and traps well enough to write corrected code.

blastonico··on Boffin claims Microsoft’s “quantum leap” is invalid due to “basic Python errors”
No idea whether the claim is right or wrong, but this processor package is beautiful.
blastonico··on Why I'm Forced to Say Farewell: Google Management Has Lost Its Moral Compass
Back in 2017, I had this theory that Google was run from the Vatican and the Pope himself was the CEO.
blastonico··on Grit: Rewriting Git in Rust with agents
But... it's memory safe. Not that git has any important memory issue, but now people with skill issues in C can contribute to it without breaking stuff.
blastonico··on AI misidentification results in wrongful arrest; man seeks justice
Three "racist" in a sentence is a bingo. Congratulations.
blastonico··on AI misidentification results in wrongful arrest; man seeks justice
Do you prefer human identification, like picking the suspect among a group lineup? More accurate I guess?
blastonico··on Remove .zig Files from Bun
Does anybody know what model they are using? Is that Mythos?

This is impressive. I honestly don't know what to think about programming careers, need to reflect on my role in this area. The only thing that comes to mind the that quote from Cypher (Matrix):

"Buckle your seat belt, Dorothy, because Kansas is going bye-bye."

blastonico··on DigitalOcean Seeks $800M in Funding
Why has it gotten worse? are there more PhDs in Hyderabad?
blastonico··on A Eulogy for Vim
Garbage in, garbage out. Most of the code out there is already crap, I'm just embracing it.
blastonico··on A Eulogy for Vim
I prefer VS Code with Claude Opus 4.6, it makes me more productive during my working hours so I can take more quality time with my family.

I know that my point of view is considered .+(cist|phobic) (based on the post). I'm sorry for that.

blastonico··on How long can it take to become a US citizen?
9 months - from conception to birth
blastonico··on How we rooted Copilot
Not really. You're referring to agents, but the model doesn't always require agents, and the public chatbot is not connected to a shell freely evaluating arbitrary commands.
blastonico··on How we rooted Copilot
Oh boy, this really seems to be hallucination.

Guys, chatbots are mostly token generators, they don't run programs e give you responses...it's not a simple shell program, it computes things in GPU and return tokens, in which are translated back to English.

blastonico··on How we rooted Copilot
How does he know that the response isn't just hallucinations?

I'm telling it because I work there and I don't recognize any of those processes.

In fact I found one script named keepAliveJupyterSvc.sh in a public repo: https://github.com/shivamkm07/code-interpreter/blob/load-tes...

blastonico··on The American Weather Forecast Is in Trouble
ok, I'm sorry, I think that politics are consuming me, it's driving my thoughts more than it should.

I'll take some time off, breath some fresh air, and improve.

Again.. sorry.

blastonico··on Zelensky leaves White House after angry meeting
Exactly, Trump should have given him more $100 billion.
blastonico··on The Doge Takeover Is Worse Than You Think

blastonico··on DOGE's Website Is Just One Big X Ad
Sorry, but I prefer not to argue with people who support corruption.
blastonico··on DOGE's Website Is Just One Big X Ad
Hats off to the DOGE team, they're unrevealing a long chain of corruption and money leakage.
