boraoztunc··on Migrating from DokuWiki to Obsidian
Products are the reflections of their makers. Obsidian is a great example. Happy from the beginning.
boraoztunc··on Toasts are bad UX
LinkedIn toasts are the worst.

boraoztunc··on Brilliant Thinkers–thought processes, working habits, decision-making principles
Yes. Today is International Women's Day; that's why I shared this series.
boraoztunc··on Brilliant Thinkers–thought processes, working habits, decision-making principles
I just quoted from the author's website to explain the articles, so you can read them here before clicking.
boraoztunc··on Brilliant Thinkers–thought processes, working habits, decision-making principles
As a knowledge worker, your mind is your most important tool. You can improve the way you use this tool by studying the way brilliant thinkers conduct research, connect ideas, solve problems and make decisions.

Using the knowledge gained by previous thinkers is also one of the fastest ways to make intellectual progress. To “stand on the shoulders of giants” is to upload these brilliant thinkers’ understanding to your own mind, to build on top of it, to share your new insights, and to keep on fostering our collective intelligence.

This series of portraits explores the thought processes, working habits, and decision-making principles applied by brilliant thinkers who profoundly impacted the world with their discoveries and the way they challenged the status quo.

boraoztunc··on Google helped destroy adoption of RSS feeds (2023)
Perfect! Thank you.
boraoztunc··on The day I canceled my Spotify subscription
I understand. It seems like too much, but I've no intention of storing or doing something with the data. Spotify API lets us follow artists, like songs through the app, and create playlists. Also, there is a built-in player that we can listen to the songs and playlists directly without opening the Spotify app.

You should try, pretty cool.

boraoztunc··on The day I canceled my Spotify subscription
UX def sucks. I don't understand how a design-focused company that invests so much into its design teams (www.spotify.design) can create a user interface so cluttered and hard to navigate to find music. After years of using it, I've recently discovered (on mobile) that they've hidden the search and sorting on top of the playlists.

My home page is full of things I'm not interested in; there is no way to customize which are displayed. And enough of pushing podcasts.

I've created a (free) web app using Spotify API, Echoes, with a simple interface to see your top artists and songs, it also has a New Discovery section to generate playlists based on your listening algorithm.

boraoztunc··on Humanity is choosing to keep much of its potential off the table, undeployed
Many people go to work at jobs that aren’t designed to be fulfilling, and many more don’t get the chance to contribute at all. Meanwhile, many powerful organizations are forced to focus on their own profitability and short-term goals at the expense of everything else — leaving the status quo intact, or at best only making the world incrementally better. Yet the massive problems facing us this century need the widest array of minds, the wildest imaginations, and enormous commitments of time, resources, and attention.

boraoztunc··on What is the A.I.’s existential threat to humanity?
> Poorer education levels are more likely the bigger threat to humanity though.

Already doing a great damage, especially in third world countries, where manipulation from authorities are superior due to lack of education.

boraoztunc··on What is the A.I.’s existential threat to humanity?
That was a nice way to explain, thank you! And also was a reminder for me that living daily with all these technological developments, one loose the perception of that we are the current cavemen of future societies. After 100,000s of years, all these will the first paintings on the walls.
boraoztunc··on What is the A.I.’s existential threat to humanity?
Concerns: Some argue that A.I. is improving so rapidly that it has already surpassed human performance in some areas, and that it will soon surpass it in others.
boraoztunc··on Created a podcast using AI for script and voice generation
The script is based on the articles I'm writing, subjects including design, UX, product, and technology.

Any ideas if I should keep creating episodes for this?

boraoztunc··on Understanding the psychology behind product decisions
Folks, exploring the subject and sharing my findings. Let me know if you have resources on intersection of psychology and product design + development.
boraoztunc··on TV series about startup failures

boraoztunc··on Usability heuristics for user interface design
Thank you for your comment. You are right about Orwell, he and his books has influence on me. He's a great author, so let's agree on good :) Also, I was born in 1984, fav commercial Ridley Scott shot for Apple's Macintosh personal computer launch, and a couple of things.

1984.design is a passion project for me, after 15 years of a design career, I like to share knowledge more than serving clients and their projects. That's why I'm putting my efforts into learning and growing together with fellow designers while I'm getting older.

I just want to do what I love, without getting caught up in thinking about competition. There is a small knit of people we can build great communities with. And that would be enough for me. I love IxDF btw, they provide excellent education for affordable prices and 1984 is a certified educational partner.

And let's take a note here why using third-party software sucks, you can't even change the logo to go to home page. Which should be because it is a common habit, I don't even put "home" to top navigations and menus as people are clicking logos to navigate to the main page.

See you around.

boraoztunc··on Living in an Unreal World: A Film by Adam Curtis
We live in a world where the powerful deceive us. We know they lie. They know, we know they lie. They don’t care. We say we care but we do nothing. And nothing ever changes. It’s normal. Welcome to the post-truth world.

boraoztunc··on Show HN: I built a site that lets users find playlists by songs they contain
You can generate new songs with Echoes app. Connect your Spotify account, you will explore top artists, top songs and recently played. Also New Discovery section will generate playlists in a specific genre, if you click Load New Tracks, it will generate new songs through your Spotify algorithm.
