A different approach, but this may be worth a look from the emotional perspective, at least.

bosshog··on FT: Facebook sues German StudiVZ
Hysterical.

The Samwer brothers funded StudiVz and sold it for > 85 million Euros.

With the proceeds of the sale, they then invested in Facebook.

Facebook then sues StudiVz.

What about the Chinese and Russian clones?

bosshog··on 10 Brilliant Social Networks You Don’t Know About
Linkedin and Xing both charge for premium service.

Badoo has an optional charge as well.

bosshog··on The Uncomfortable story to the Background of Facebook
The second round of funding was from accel and jim breyer.

He cashed out ~ $1 million, according to Sarah Lacy's book which she interviewed him for.

bosshog··on The Uncomfortable story to the Background of Facebook
Seems like facebook is going through the trough of disillusionment of the hype cycle. I'm sure last year it could do no wrong.

Did Zuckerberg pull some douche moves or was he savvy? Would you have acted similarly?

Like the simple design. The healthcare link isn't too solid at the mo.

bosshog··on Ask YC: Startup crisis. Out of money and tech co-founder has bailed.
$2400 (after taxes, see OP) - $2000 is more like $100 a week.
bosshog··on Andrew Chen: Has the Facebook platform hit its peak?
it's a subtle and effective form of marketing. I don't have a problem with it.
bosshog··on Xobni - wouldn't get out of bed for $20m
He cropped his photo, which was a good move.

Can we concentrate on the merits of his argument this time?

bosshog··on Anybody not in any social networks?
social networks focused on entertainment will have a limited shelf life, as the tend to focus on short term attention and on teens.

Linkedin is a slightly different case. It is like a useful business directory.

The next wave will be vertical SN's.(few billion dollar ideas there), and networks with a strong mobile component.

I have started to dump all my entertainment focused social networks. I keep an account on facebook, but only use it to keep track of people. I hate their stupid applications.

what kind of web app?
bosshog··on Matt Maroon: The Anti-Social Graph
More classic MM haterade fuelled ranting. keep swigging. (with credit to aston)

But I like the article a lot. Facebook now feels like the warm up to something greater. (and probably smaller)

The identity thing is no longer an advantage for them since they opened up beyond schools and coroporates. It is socially engineered toward real identities, but that's all.

bosshog··on Ask YC: What "problem" does Facebook solve?
Some great responses. Thanks

My line of thinking was more from the point of view of "fixing things that are broken" as a way to create interesting products.

For example, Youtube was fixing the lack of an easy way to share video online.

bosshog··on Facebook Is Not Really That Special
You could replace "Facebook" with Hacker News in your argument.

It's not the technology, but the community.

bosshog··on Facebook Is Not Really That Special
It will continue to be very relevant for college campuses for a good while yet.

How facebook will be replaced.

bosshog··on Facebook to do over $1 Billion in Revenue in 2008
But the 2015 projection was based on FB having 52 million active users.

It now has 58 million....and this is likely to be 100 million sometime in '08.

Hence the conclusion.

bosshog··on Bebo strategically inept by cloning facebook platform
Is this a fair analysis? I agree that the marginal value of applications on social network sites is close to zero, but many seem to disagree.
