bragr··on We know 15k websites are infected. how do we tell them?
Unfortunately, this is how I found out 10 years ago when someone hacked a 3rd party dependency I was using on my site.
bragr··on Guerrilla bike lanes: San Francisco makes illicit infrastructure permanent (2016)
There's another side of stuff like this. People living up in the hills above LA near trail heads will put up fake no parking zones in front of their houses. People have gotten real tickets in fake zones.
bragr··on Synaptics Appears to Use Legal Threats to Block Open-Source DisplayLink Driver
Well since most providers have cross session memory or things like it, using another provider would ensure you aren't leaking any information from the first step to the second step aside from the spec produced in the first step.
bragr··on US voters roundly reject data centers in ballot measures
I lived near mega diaries and oil fields growing up. Depending on the wind you either smelled manure or sulfur. People used to say "smells like money" because ag and oil were the source of jobs in the area.
bragr··on US voters roundly reject data centers in ballot measures
Has anyone done an analysis of how these laws are defining "data center"? Anyone accidentally ban having a rack of servers on an office closet? That could suck for a lot of small businesses. I'm all for local autonomy, but knee jerk local laws can also be... messy.
bragr··on Kalshi and its co-founders face felony charges for violating Utah gambling laws
Counter point: the 10th amendment is also strong. Is it finance? Strongly a Federal issue. Gambling? Strongly a State issue.
bragr··on Charles Tandy, the mastermind behind Radio Shack
Does this even happen with that much regularity? The company would have to be valued at over $15 million to trigger federal estate taxes. I feel like if you have that big of a going concern and never got together with a lawyer to figure out inheritance, that's a bit on you.
bragr··on Molly (Signal fork) has not been updated since 3 months and is vulnerable
>reported almost 30 million in revenue in 2024

You're misreading. In 2024 they had $415k of revenue against $1.4 million in expenses, with $28.7M in assets (which I assume is what you're confusing). Assets have been steadily declining since 2022 as expenses have been consistently higher than revenue.

bragr··on Molly (Signal fork) has not been updated since 3 months and is vulnerable
>Signal hates users who aren't total normies.

No it's the other way around. Signal is explicitly designed for normies, which is why so many people use it. I doubt they sat around and thought of ways to screw certain users.

>Just as they could easily offer a Google free version

Easily? There's no easy in maintaining and releasing two different versions of your app, especially for a small non-profit.

bragr··on US Army practices digging temporary battlefield graves
Indeed, the army reserve center down the road has a Mortuary Affairs company. This kind of thing is what they are responsible for.
bragr··on US agency approves Amazon Leo’s $11.5B acquisition of Globalstar
The NEXT satellites also do space based ADS-B and AIS tracking. They packed an impressive variety of side businesses into the current satellites.
bragr··on Listen and read USA nuclear forces Emergency Action Messages, heard on 11175 kHz
>Mostly static. The net is quiet until it isn't.

Having tuned in myself with a SDR, it isn't that quiet. There's pretty steady rate of messages.

bragr··on The St. Helena 5 pence coin shows Jonathan, a roughly 190 year old tortoise
You're assuming natural selection selects for not flipping over, when in reality, it selects for the winner of the shell flipping contest as presumably without intervention, the flipped tortoise does not breed, while the winning tortoise does (or at least still has the opportunity to)
bragr··on CVE Tracker
I am more interested in the long term trend. Do we burn through the low hanging fruit at some point or is this the new normal?
bragr··on MPs moving to restrict gambling ads in Canada
If they actually operated in a disinterested way, sure, but how many different forms of advertising do you see the lotto being promoted in? Doesn't seem disinterested to me.
bragr··on A complete bypass of eMudhra’s 1FA OTP login system
The anti AI scraping on this site doesn't work that well. I'm being served non-sense text about buttplugs. I'm human, I swear.
bragr··on Quad9 to exit France
>Will these copyright enforcers now go after Google for 8.8.8.8? Cloudflare for 1.1.1.1?

they already have.

The Batpod bike was also practical, although infamous for being super hard to drive unlike the batmobile leading to a now infamous crash with an imax camera: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CdMpxN-7_rw

Gemini in android auto just refuses to place calls for you now for "safety" but will also have an extended argument with you about that at the same time.
bragr··on Cartographers of North Korea (2019)
>Tourism is open only for Russians. It's been closed for the world since COVID.

This is no longer true. They've opened up again in the last year and there's been a small flood of extreme travel of people going. https://youtu.be/TUmEcL3Feo0

bragr··on Nitter: Update Oct 10th seeking funding and legal help
Violating a contract is illegal. It's just not necessarily a crime.
bragr··on OpenAI "rogue" agent activities found on Wikimedia projects
I know we're like two tangents deep, but the funniest work around to me is the guy who legally buys all the hametz in Israel every Passover:

bragr··on I Quit OpenAI Because Its Culture Is Broken
This is not how OpenAI has structured their comp according to public info: https://www.levels.fyi/blog/openai-compensation.html
bragr··on I Quit OpenAI Because Its Culture Is Broken
It's bellow the pay fold but he hasn't been there that long in this case. Skimming his LinkedIn, unless he's got family money, he doesn't seem to be independently wealthy.

bragr··on U.S. postal inspectors shut down website selling counterfeit postage labels
You can only ship packages from post offices now or by scheduling pickup. Too much darknet drugs I guess. You can drop them in a bin at the post office, but you still have to go in and get on camera.
bragr··on California farmers are struggling to sell grapes as demand for wine drops
17 US states have monopolies on the sale of alcohol at the distribution or retail level so it is not just a Nordic thing: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alcoholic_beverage_control_sta...

I believe this is common in Canadian provinces as well?

bragr··on Owed a billion dollars in Nvidia stock
I doubt it for three very big reasons and you're wrong about one big point:

1. Time barring is pretty iron clad. Sucks for the author but consider the alternative where anyone could sue anyone after any period of time.

2. If a court did find in favor of the plaintiff, the court would be more likely to award the 90s cash value of the stock, plus interest, rather than awarding the shares or current market value (damages being how he was actually wronged in the 90s rather than speculating what he might have done with the stock to present)

3. Given 1 and 2, Nvidia is unlikely to make a big settlement, meaning an expensive and risky trial.

Which brings us to hidden reason #4: nobody would pay that much for the rights so it probably isn't worth the author's time. He'd still be the man at the center of the suit: depositions, testimony, cross examination, records subpoenas...

bragr··on California is chasing wealth that has feet
Karl Marx had a lot of great ideas that have been integrated into our modern liberal democracies (antitrust laws, labor unions, public schooling, etc). One can have a nuanced discussion of Das Kapital without being a communist. If you assume otherwise, that's your own cognitive blind spot.
bragr··on California is chasing wealth that has feet
And where do they advocate wholesale adoption of Georgeism? You can like one part of a theory without adopting it all.
bragr··on California is chasing wealth that has feet
I would challenge you to point out exactly where in OP's comment that he advocates abolishing all taxes except land taxes. I see only a comparison to taxing land vs property.
