brianb722··on "Website like Amazon"
So the lack of consideration for the load testing was the part of that post that stood out to you?
brianb722··on Disqus bait and switch, now with ads
If new features in any product/service aren't defaulted to 'on', no one will ever use any of them. Normal people don't change settings. As long as you're notified of the change (which Disqus did through email and blog posts) and it's not a privacy concern, I think 99% of companies will and should do exactly what they did in this situation.
brianb722··on John Gruber takes 'The Talk Show' to Mule Radio
Just relistened. Yeah the last 2 minutes sounded like typical Gruber, but the last 10 seconds do have an extra bit of awkwardness now with this news. Who knows.
brianb722··on Scalability
Wow. So many people with an ungodly number of open tabs. Think you guys need to check out Instapaper and a bookmarking service such as Diigo. You'll be much happier and both you and your computer will be much more productive.
brianb722··on Amazon removes link to Kindle store from iOS app
It's Apple's platform, they can do what they want with it. The market (including consumers, developers, and entrepreneurs) will decide whether their rules are good things or bad things. Long term, if Apple doesn't continue to foster development on its platform the developers will leave and then (eventually) the customers will follow.
brianb722··on Floppy Disks: It’s Too Late
I actually got rid of a bunch of 3.5" floppies I had in the back room of my house this weekend. Despite feeling pretty silly about it, I still took the time to make sure to actually tear them up rather than just dump them in the trash. Who knows what 1.44MB of data could do from my 1997 MS Money file.
brianb722··on Google Circles is high work and low return
There is a circle jerk joke in here somewhere I know it.
brianb722··on Google Circles is high work and low return
Making circles is way more intuitive than Facebook groups or Twitter lists, so yes, I could see my parents being able to make a Google+ circle.
brianb722··on Google Circles is high work and low return
Exactly. I don't want the people I was forced to add out of workplace social norms to know they're in a "Work - Others" group that gets to hardly see anything I do.

These are MY social circles, why should they have to be relevant to anyone other than me.

brianb722··on As I run past the RIM buildings, I see these posters
Thanks. That was a very helpful explanation.
brianb722··on As I run past the RIM buildings, I see these posters
Whoops. Just zoomed right past the site's About. Not sure how anyone can take this thing as more than a publicity stunt.
brianb722··on As I run past the RIM buildings, I see these posters
According to a whois the site is run by the owner of this site: http://www.paybuyer.com/

PayBuyer appears to be an ad network. In other words, the guy could care less about Android and is just mad that AdSense/AdWords dominates.

It's funny that supporters of RIM have taken it seriously without doing 30 seconds of research.

brianb722··on How Running A Business Changes The Way You Think
Maybe you're doing it wrong? Why don't you put out more effort and make it fun. Or find something else where you are willing to do so. (I am a former high school teacher.)
brianb722··on How Running A Business Changes The Way You Think
The problem is the $$$ plot point. Grade school teachers (in the US) are not well paid. Which is why it attracts the lazy people instead of the ones who would actually put out the effort needed to properly educate our youth. (Not meant to be an indictment of all teachers, just the "bad ones".)
