brij0102··on What happens if you swallow gum?
But now you have peanut butter hair!
brij0102··on A girl wanted to keep the goat she raised for a county fair. They killed it
Looks like the state senator lost an opportunity to buy and gift the goat to the kid
brij0102··on The road to electric is filled with tiny cars
Electric assist bikes could serve you well if the distance works out
brij0102··on Ask HN: ML training in Keras – use Sanic/Flask?
One idea is to use an nginx front-end and invoke python as a process. It feels very last century though!
brij0102··on Jio’s phone will run Android and cost about $54
There are environmental considerations in manufacturing these, as well as need for immense amount of clean water which is already in short supply in India; the devil is always in the details ...
brij0102··on Ask HN: ML model to predict war and extent of it?
This has to be a solved problem! If nothing else, hedge fund managers probably have at least a simplified model.
brij0102··on EU beckons Indian tech talent
H1 tightening is suggested as a reason for reduction in house prices in SV ... the uncertainty keeps folks from making the commitment. Prices of course are still high in the valley but multiple offers outside of a few cities are a thing of the past
brij0102··on EU beckons Indian tech talent
I remember reading a while back that CA encourages retaining native identity (comparisons were made between a quilt and a melting pot ...)
brij0102··on EU beckons Indian tech talent
Anecdotal but I have recently noticed a spurt in ‘retained’ workers for dot-net, Java, and ‘open source’ work in India for anywhere from 2100 to 2800 dollars a month. Maybe this is more for small companies but those small business owners couldn’t dream of hiring someone for twice as much than that even in rural US (and no benefits or payroll and easy increase or reduction in the strength). Outsourcing and automation are way more powerful forces pressuring down salaries, whatever the visa regime (and constantly competing against each other too)
brij0102··on Is China Beating America to AI Supremacy?
It depends on where in the AI lifecycle we are ... I believe we are still barely scratching the surface and mostly using it to solve old problems. This ‘race’ could just help improve the field enough that we can get to some real fun stuff!
brij0102··on Where Are the Tech Zillionaires? San Francisco Faces the IPO Fizzle
wine cellars and penthouses can definitely be part of retirement :)
brij0102··on When will the Netherlands disappear?
Interesting! Does this handle storms? I suspect we'll see a lot more storms and much higher waves along with the increase in sea level ...
brij0102··on India locates lander lost on final approach to moon
Any chance the rover might have survived? Also I wish it was more a ball than a shape that could tip over!
brij0102··on India Loses Contact with Probe Just as It Prepares to Land on Moon
So the algo didn’t account for that or the hardware wasn’t able to compensate?
brij0102··on India Loses Contact with Probe Just as It Prepares to Land on Moon
That would always be a problem though, right? So for unmanned moon landings, do we instead need those inflated bouncy balls? Or did the previous successes just got it right?
brij0102··on India Loses Contact with Probe Just as It Prepares to Land on Moon
What do we think went wrong? I expect maths to be right but there was a comment somewhere about the regolith with fine particles whose specific composition could have caused unexpected dust clouds as the lander sped to the ground ... how was this tech different from the other 3 successes?
brij0102··on India’s Messy Electric Vehicle Revolution
Memory is foggy and I don't have a citation but didn't the definition of literacy in India just involved the ability to read/write your name (officially by govt)? I wouldn't be surprised if a significant percentage was functionally illiterate - that doesn't mean they aren't smart though - likely smarter than the author :)
brij0102··on Low-earth orbit satellites threatened by debris from Indian anti-satellite test
Maybe the illustrious members of HN should stick to their strengths and come up with a technological solution to the following two: - how can a nation achieve equivalent ability as this without actually destroying a satellite - how can such debris be rendered harmless
brij0102··on Forget Fortnite–my son is still obsessed with Minecraft
I remember when my 7 year old got into it and the experience was amazingly similar ... then I found that the newly learnt swear words came from those videos. If it weren’t for the gratuitous language in the article too, I’d have loved to get him to read it!
brij0102··on America's first big offshore wind farm sets record low price
I wonder if some of these savings should be set aside to directly go towards cleanup operations - processes to scrub CO2, reduce ocean acidification etc
