brryant··on Migrating a production AI agent to GPT-5.6: 2.2x faster, 27% cheaper
agree that many of those markers of quality are now low signal. Ultimately we let our customers vote with their wallet

Funnily enough, we spent a long time on our brand. From our launch video that has human actors, to our product details. I believe a distinctive, high quality, well implemented brand is still a hallmark of a strong product or service.

brryant··on Migrating a production AI agent to GPT-5.6: 2.2x faster, 27% cheaper
hah - we actually skew staff, senior staff.

We have been testing GPT 5.6 for about a week as a preview model through a YC relationship, providing them feedback on the model. Our evals run in github CI and we can run them all in about 15 minutes against our eval bench of 115+ web design and marketing related jobs that ploy.ai specializes in.

then after we toggled it on (through a posthog feature flag) we actively monitored for failures.

I came from running Webflow, which powers > 1% of the internet so trying my best to relay all of that knowledge to ploy to power more % of the internet!

brryant··on AI Web Design (Opus vs. Sol)
The best prompt isn't a prompt. It's a picture. That and many other I've picked up building websites with AI: how to spot slop, where the models forget, why the design plan is the whole game.

Webflow | AI Full Stack Engineer | Remote or Hybrid (SF) | https://webflow.com| Full-Time $158k - >$220k + equity

Hey HN, this is Bryant (Webflow [YCS13] cofounder, founding CTO now Chief Architect, and head of Webflow Labs).

At Webflow Labs, we're redefining what it means to build for the web, again. We’re building a team of experienced full stack engineers that are now AI-obsessed to bring audacious innovations to life.

Webflow is a growth stage company now (top 20? YC company by revenue) but we still have the spirit of a small company. But since we're operating at scale, I'm looking for experienced engineers that have built at scale but want dip back into the 0 to 1 mode of building something, quickly, from scratch.

If you are interested in other Webflow positions, we have many open roles: https://webflow.com/careers

This is the link for the Webflow Labs team if you're interested! If you have any questions feel free to DM me on X!

brryant··on Helsinki Relocation Package: City as a Service
This is honestly a great way for tech entrepreneurs to experience Nordic living. The fact is Finland has one of the most startup friendly environments around:

— top schools (Aalto U. produces incredibly talented engineers)

— startup friendly ecosystem (cheap rents, cheap internet)

— Finnish work culture (direct, no nonsense, hard working but balanced)

— fantastic food and beverage scene in downtown Helsinki

My wife is originally from Finland but we live in SF now, but as soon as COVID is over we'll all go back to Helsinki so I can start Webflow's first EU office there. Hope this program stays around for that!

brryant··on When is no-code useful?
it's intended

Weird! Didn't see any issues on our side.

BTW just booked a 45m call to see if an expert can help us get our 6 week old to sleep through the night!

brryant··on Ask HN: What's your advice for someone who's raising capital for the first time?
Some basic things I've learned along the way:

1. be authentic. 2. don't sell. 3. explain your vision of the future in simple terms

brryant··on Show HN: CSS Grid Playground in Webflow
We've heard of quite a few Webflow users that have converted components built in Webflow to React/Vue/Angular components. We've explored it a bit internally but need to get more user feedback on how broadly this would appeal to product designers and developers, and specifically what workflows they're looking to augment or replace. Stay tuned!
brryant··on Show HN: CSS Grid Playground in Webflow
At least from what we see on webflow.com (> 1MM sessions a month) there have only been 595 IE11 sessions according to GA, so that's less than 0.06%.

Windows7 had 6.8% of all sessions but seems like most of them are using a modern browser.

All really good signs for web developers out there!

Yea, it's a pretty transformational layout paradigm for the web. The crazy thing is less than 1% of websites use it: https://twitter.com/ebidel/status/1034874571747291136?s=19

Thanks for the useful feedback — we took a different approach to see if we could redefine the border of what "UX conventions" are on the web. Sometimes it hits, sometimes it's... different.

Fortunately we didn't expend a tremendous amount of effort building the page. Here's the preview link to the actual landing page for those curious: https://preview.webflow.com/preview/g-r-i-d?utm_source=g-r-i...

brryant··on Show HN: CSS Grid Playground in Webflow
Hello HN! 6 years ago we launched our very first playground on HN (https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=5407499). It barely worked, but a few months later we go into YC largely due to the awesome feedback we received from it. We thought we'd take a page out of history and show you guys how far we've come, with a version of the original playground, but fully integrated with CSS Grid.

The Webflow designer was built mostly in knockout.js in 2013/2014, but we finished a migration to React about a year ago. We’re still learning all the tricks needed to make a very large React app performant, but we haven’t looked back.

We'd love to hear your feedback!

The CSS Grid playground works in desktop Chrome/Safari/Brave/Vivaldi, as we're still working on Firefox and tablet support.

Yea, when I said it verbally on the Skype call with Matt (the reporter) it definitely conveyed much more of a satirical tone, but in hindsight, I realized that was a mistake. My 奶奶 definitely would have scolded me for that. Sorry 奶奶...
