bsoqk··on Python 3.15
Inappropriate answer to someone saying that adding 10 MB worth of GIFs to a source code tarball is inadequate.
bsoqk··on Cloudflare acquires Deno
And then Danone.
bsoqk··on US man given prison sentence for bot-farming music streams
Using bots to defraud the platforms and get royalties he didn’t actually earn sounds like a crime to me, but what do I know. Maybe I should just make a Trump joke.
bsoqk··on I'm not paying $20 for ChatGPT or Claude because a free local LLM does
Not to mention the price of electricity.
bsoqk··on Tell HN: GitHub refuses to remove cracked copies of my software after a month
This is what HN has devolved into: someone taking adware and removing the ads is a "bad guy".
bsoqk··on Across the Globe, People Increasingly Say Social Media Is Harming Democracy
It's not about the algorithm, it's about what you can or can't say. Facebook censors you and won't allow you to say certain things.
bsoqk··on OpenAI says teens use ChatGPT for under 15 minutes a day
If they are, it should be easy to uncover the truth: ask the parents of the teenagers how long their children use ChatGPT for each day.
bsoqk··on Southern Olive Oil
The tin part is interesting to me - I don’t know of any coops in Spain that still sell it in tin. It must be one of those things that people abroad deem authentic but which aren’t.
bsoqk··on Hackers obtain counterfeit TLS certificates for Google and other large services
Nothing novel about this. In fact this is the reason why years ago Google stopped using ccTLDs to serve their website.
bsoqk··on Paramount Skydance has completed its $111B merger with Warner Bros. Discovery
This is the worst deflection I’ve seen in this website and that’s saying a lot.
bsoqk··on JetBrains reports revenue growth, net financial loss for 2025
That would mean the software before LLMs were quality products, which is laughable.
bsoqk··on JetBrains reports revenue growth, net financial loss for 2025
>Are you paid to press enter at anything that Claude present to you?

I'm paid to create a product. If Claude does so without me having to look at the code, then that's what I'm being paid to do.

bsoqk··on Our approach to EU text provenance rules
Why not have our devices generate watermarks for everything? That way, we won’t have any kind of defence.
bsoqk··on Our approach to EU text provenance rules
The way I interpret your comment is that, in the future, it will be enough to prove that someone tried to remove an LLM watermark to put them in jail.
bsoqk··on Our approach to EU text provenance rules
Isn't that what this watermarking allows for? To allow LLM companies to detect that certain text was authored by their tools?
bsoqk··on Nearly 200 people under observation after Irkutsk lab worker dies from plague
Imagine if someone said something like this of a brown country. They would be banned right away.
bsoqk··on Show HN: Glashütte Trash Clock – A 30-minute pendulum clock made from trash
A good analogy for German engineering.
bsoqk··on What is going on with ceiling fans
I see no indication that the photo is AI. https://st.hzcdn.com/simgs/pictures/living-rooms/century-woo...
bsoqk··on The Escalation of War in Ethiopia
Because it affects gas prices.
bsoqk··on The Escalation of War in Ethiopia
We give attention to things that deserve our attention, i.e., things that affect us. The war in Ethiopia scores very low on that list, to the point of almost complete irrelevance.
bsoqk··on cp: -r or -R?
It's "ditto", not "dito"
bsoqk··on A 20-year-long permanent cookie: America.gov and tracking
That’s a solution for a problem that doesn’t exist. Nobody considers not getting logged out randomly a problem.
bsoqk··on A 20-year-long permanent cookie: America.gov and tracking
Because when you log in you don’t want to be logged out at (what, for you, will appear to be) a random time of the future.
bsoqk··on A 20-year-long permanent cookie: America.gov and tracking
How long should a cookie you expect to last forever actually last?
bsoqk··on A 20-year-long permanent cookie: America.gov and tracking
If this is the worst thing they’ve found in that portal…
bsoqk··on Why media fans want to escape algorithms with CDs, DVDs and vinyl
Things are good when they are good for you. Things are bad when they are bad for you.

By now the Spotify algorithm has been good for me. The day it starts being bad I’ll badmouth it. It’s not the time yet.

bsoqk··on Several vulnerabilities have been discovered in the Linux kernel
We have a lot of that in Europe. Parasite professions. Someone who does nothing but charges a lot for his signature.
bsoqk··on Why media fans want to escape algorithms with CDs, DVDs and vinyl
I am a "media fan" and algorithms (going back to last.fm) have make me discover so much music that it's not even funny. The idea of "escaping algorithms" is a net negative for me.
bsoqk··on Several vulnerabilities have been discovered in the Linux kernel
So, like professional orders in Europe? Thankfully everybody agreed that writing code is not engineering so this isn't mandated by law, but we were this close.
bsoqk··on US tells France and Germany to release diesel stocks or face US export ban
Of course everybody looks bad when compared to Franco.
