bubbluppugus··on How the Fed Is Quietly Inflating the AI Bubble While Hiking Your Electric Bill
Or... "how humanity fell for yet another promise of Lucy's to not yank the football away" if you just follow orders

From religions promise of forever life with your loved ones to "starts a SaaS! Disrupt!"

All just political ploys of the elite class of the day. Cause the kids stupid lizard brains take decades to figure it out

bubbluppugus··on The Public Pays to Produce Research. Shareholders Collect the Return
Really? Your argument is shareholders who engage in menial labor of buy low/sell high should receive the most reward from collective labor investment?

bubbluppugus··on Show HN: The Zelda timeline to catch up before the Ocarina of Time remake
That has little to do with "Japan" and more to do with "that's how it went back then."

There's stories all over about Hollywood dumping physical copies of films, sets and props only to later regret it.

No one knew if a sequel or trilogy or decades of fan service would happen. They didn't care like our rose colored glasses of time make us see.

American comics and Star Wars has had their continuity reset.

This is just "grass is greener" type thinking. It's only ever been the US fan culture that cared; most creators just see it as a paycheck

bubbluppugus··on Amazon uses AI to monitor union risk in UK warehouses
Elected and unelected government workers impact not just us but the world given the interconnected nature of modern logistics.

They can accept the obligation or stay home.

It's not supposed to be career for personal gain like being an actor. Every LARP has been socialized as a "destiny" or "calling".

Except for the average person who lives at the whims of "the market".

The downside for the majority of insulating 600k elected officials and the 1.3 million lawyers and public employees is just more of the same middle age's stratified society crap

I say we roll out america.gov decision models trained in public, deployed in public, built around a legal philosophy of immutable rights to shelter and healthcare and the related technology development and have it bubble initiatives for public vote that don't violate the core legal rights

And if some dealership owner doesn't like it remind them they're one meat of billions and we don't really need them

This whole Mr Rogers touchy feely kid gloves for the professional managerial class, all told fewer people than died during covid, not a truly important cabal then, is no different than anointing kings and barons and regional lords financially... their economic condition is sacrosanct and everyone elses is optional

Changed the semantics, kept the ridiculous ground truth

> I have a theory

No need to be abstract and theoretical about it; it's how the trickle down economy works.

Boomers and GenX are the ones foisting that reality on them; GenZ is pushing the buttons supply side is providing

Stop talking in vague abstractions. We know this is 100% top down driven self selected interpretations of historical documents by the elders in charge of political interpretations

bubbluppugus··on Ask HN: Thoughts on hiring junior engineers in 2026?
Not a founder but have 20+ years experience in code and 7 before that in design and build of data center blade tech back when that was still kind of new; been in engineering a while

And yeah... have seen all the jargons come and go. DOS, Novell, Windows NT, xml, soap, next, BSD had a moment, chef and yada yada...the vague hand wavy semantics to 2010s web saas will not be spared

The most common shared cross continent language for whats going on is math... stats of state of memory registers

The jargons conjured up on the fly to do office work 30+ years ago all fade away; how many startups went all in on COBOL during the RoR era?

So yeah; hard pressed to recommend tethering juniors to useless jargon as we have most of my career.

bubbluppugus··on Waymo in Toronto
You sure about that? My friends and colleagues outside the US are awful pissed that US gen pop let/lets this happen.

They’re encouraging their leaders to route around 300 million Muricans as they see no collective action in response to threats to global trade they rely on.

And argue ok if US institutions and zeitgeist are "fuck yall we're America" well again 300 million are really at the whim of 8 billion.

Not sure the typical Mr Rogers naive optimism "we're America!" is gonna get the US through after 10 years of this (Biden admin effort was binned just months after Trump 2.0 took off so it effectively didn't matter; Jimmy Carter 2.0). That's just copium, blind faith in what Adam Smith called "the invisible hand" he later came to realize was a mistake to believe existed

bubbluppugus··on Microsoft says Windows 11 is now 'more responsive' and runs better on 8GB of RAM
Old man shouts at cloud.

From the generation that gave us XML, SOAP and Trump.

If you cannot contribute except to complain about the kids log off.

Been hearing effectively the same whiny shit since I was a kid in the 1980s when your now long dead elders called your generation "gold star for nothings" and lamented humanity needed another Vietnam to thin you all out.

bubbluppugus··on How to Formalize All of Mathematics
Yeah which is why I don't have much sympathy for folks like Tao either

The ability to conjure math is practically as endless as time

At some point the outcome is just generation of new visual art in the form of syntax

We can't physically observe the past or future so we can only theorize and simulate; IMO that's the physical phenomena that belies Incompleteness Theorem; from Earth in the relative year of 2026 my view of the universe is fundamentally incomplete. As such all language describing too far either is incomplete always.

It makes any kind of longtermism, religious or agnostic framework espoused by kids of rich academics, empty. We all gonna stick around 10 more generations just to make sure?

Whole lot of educated people are just peddling euphemism for religious conviction they steeped in as kids but hid behind atheist semantics like "Intelligent Design."

bubbluppugus··on Waymo in Toronto
So your response to asocial, xenophobic politicians is give them what they want?

"I will show that America first President who wants to fracture global trade...by arguing for fracturing global trade."

That gen pops tune changed with the political climate just like big corp previously going on about left wing shit is stunning

Ya'll are just LARPing what you watch on TV and read online

bubbluppugus··on Americans' social activity has steeply declined in the past 30 years
Are you conflating normal interest in another's well being with Einstein like outlierness?

I can find "interesting" (based on a boring reading from a dictionary) the unknown days events of a friend even if while knowing the person was not engaged in breaking down understanding of reality.

It's not the person or their todo list that's interesting but awareness of a cognitive disconnect of not knowing what their todo list was that day.

bubbluppugus··on Using AI for just 10 minutes erodes your ability to persist at hard things

bubbluppugus··on Microsoft says Windows 11 is now 'more responsive' and runs better on 8GB of RAM
Corny argument for bragging rights only; users do more today that Slackware in 1996 just could not account for; it's not all useless bloat.

At one point the OS that's now a complete car was just a wheel which didn't do anything but roll.

bubbluppugus··on Simons Foundation launches $15M effort to help mathematicians navigate AI era
Higher ed as we know it started out as rich families paying churches to let their kids study theology to avoid manual labor.

Various historians agree with the idea credentialism is largely just a tool of aristocracy to manipulate the public.

bubbluppugus··on We are entering a period of overlapping crises
Well yeah but at the same time social specifics exist; Trump doesn't go about things like Caesar because the world is fundamentally different

So negotiations and solutions must be too

bubbluppugus··on Neural networks are clean
Interpretation comes down to ultimately arbitrary human assignment of a succinct and compressed syntax and semantics to summarize a big data set; so yeah eventually something new to describe models will emerge. It's how it goes.

Also how it goes is this new consensus will be a leaky abstraction and we'll keep conjuring new words to describe new rhetorical features and bloat the corpus of philosophy until everyone is over the whole concept and then we'll start over with a whole new arbitrary academic philosophy for "running algebra on a computer"

bubbluppugus··on Americans' social activity has steeply declined in the past 30 years
I got tired of being the planner.

As soon as I stopped it all stopped.

And like really all stopped; via digital comms everyone from the social group has said they realized after the plans I pulled together was their extent of their social life.

American culture fuckin' sucks. And it's Americans propping it up. It isn't Russia or the other usual boogeymen.

bubbluppugus··on Yandex outage: data shows that instead of going dark, malicious bots moved
Rhetorical claims that refute isn't really evidence either, just an attempt to null out the prevailing narrative; SEO spam

Elon getting snooty and Starlink issues in Ukraine are just press releases too; how the fuck do we know what anyone actually did? Too many red herrings troubleshooting systems to assume Starlink isn't just glitched sometimes

While I am firmly in the "Ukraine is the good guy" camp generally both sides of a nation state conflict will lie to both deflect blame and project competence and strength. Will give Zelensky benefit of the doubt until he dead or war ends and if he doesn't step aside legally. But he will latch onto headlines to get his message heard even if Ukraine had nothing to do with it.

bubbluppugus··on America didn't lose its rare earth industry, it sold it
Well, effectively "sold" jobs to invest in the automation to output more with fewer jobs

I did not intend to imply it's good or bad what happened, it's just the capital exchanges and consequences are obvious

Not really about the political/ finance jargon to me but the change in ground truth for us

Now what?

https://aeon.co/essays/the-key-to-jobs-in-the-future-is-not-...

We just do the last mile "human work"? Mow lawns, make zines, hack RPis for fun and teach maintenance of the robots. Cook and socialize but the robots make sure neighborhood grocery and hardware store are full?

Semantics aside giving everyone a direct handle to submit issues also can act like MAD nuke policy: https://aeon.co/essays/game-theory-s-cure-for-corruption-mak...

I mean what're the Founders and our living but aging elders going to do? Stick around and make sure we stick to the script? The Founders didn't even either.

Law and code that feeds the fed gov AI could conceivably be built and deployed be blocked like usual by need for sufficient sign offs given a geographic region

So I mean; the language impediments and language that doesn't currently exist can be changed. I mean we don't default to Latin; evolution of social language is not gonna stop with us. We could be intentional about it same as we are with code.

bubbluppugus··on Do dentists know what they're doing?
Yeah is why I hedged with "something like this".

There's all kinds of wild shit showing real results not just theorizing, in regenerative medicine; who cares about programming computers when we could have healing factors.

I wanna program my biology. If I rub my tongue on the top of my mouth a certain way I want to taste purple.

Embed neural patterns for kung fu to speed up muscle memory development.

Hack my matrix.

bubbluppugus··on Do dentists know what they're doing?
Science has successfully triggered growth of third set of dormant buds in various animals; various human trials are working their way through the process: https://dentistry.co.uk/2026/08/18/tooth-regrowth-in-adults-...

Fingers crossed we can start doing something like this and reduce overall use of gory hack and slash techniques (even still I assume not all cases will be able to avoid it).

bubbluppugus··on America didn't lose its rare earth industry, it sold it
America didn't lose manufacturing jobs it sold them

The whole economy for 40-ish years now been built on finance engineering away labors grip on anything in the US

bubbluppugus··on Who Taught the Machines Mathematics?
Any classic book was arguing against religion which dominated the day

There was an intentional "marketing strategy" among scientists and such to convince young men to go into sciences rather than religious or nation state politics or just be bums fighting and drinking back in the day. They lifted heavily from the tone used by church and military recruiter propaganda

Different tone to the prose merely reflects the zeitgeist of the day. Should be seen as a tool like a wrench.

bubbluppugus··on AI is a tool and using it well takes skill
Most human knowledge is a handful of things re-stated in different semantics or cultural language

In IT things like "protected memory" are just access control problems; under the hood the algorithms to solve either rely on same physical machine state patterns; test if current user should have access to this memory (RAM or disk) and react accordingly to the test.

At the language layer though we encapsulate both in different function names and git check ins

It's bizarre

Given the number of photons and possible angles for light to bounce around would not be shocked if standing in the woods during the so-called "golden hour" observing the God-rays filter through flora is zapping our brains with more information than all the text we read on screens

A walk in the woods feels so refreshing because every where our eyes look its layers of geometric and color gradient information never repeating themselves in subtle ways; lighting up a larger gradient in our brain than the normalized minimalism inherent to text does in order for us to understand each other

Sitting at a screen however, is sitting at a screen. All that's missing is the electrodes from the computer to your brain so the obviousness its a lab experiment is unmistakable

Time to stop being friends with a computer that doesn't care you exist and go socialize

bubbluppugus··on Apple HomeView
Hey look it's the half-basketball iMac without the cool arm which a gadget like this should have

Dropped the ball on the usability there with no arm. Could have also marketed a table game function; placed at center of table, arm could allow screen to swivel 360 for everyone to use as needed

The iOS-ification of hardware while they keep part prices high to get people hooked on networked AI over a dumb terminal
