c22··on ICE Is Running One of the Largest Anti-Left Surveillance Ops in US History
Informing the subject they are shadowbanned would kind of defeat the purpose of the shadowban. Might as well just issue a regular ban then.

It's nice that this place maintains an email endpoint that's actually staffed by humans who can intervene if needed. That's more than can be said about most places these days.

c22··on Woman charged with computer fraud due to scam CashApp account being in her name
> Make them clean the station and pick up trash...

This should just be an established way to pay your fare.

c22··on The plight of the public potty
The comment you're replying to appears to be responding to the comment made by shoobiedoo in response to what you originally said. It makes sense in this context, whether or not you agree with the position.
c22··on California is building a $400M shield for Yosemite's most dangerous highway
If it's near milk that's over 113 million gallons!
c22··on CFTC Staff Were Told to Retract Analysis of Suspicious Oil Trades
It's not unique to democracy, any power structure can be abused by those who manage to seize the reigns. It's possible that a democracy could produce a system with limited power structures and diffuse responsibilities if its constituents desired such.
c22··on Blood cells from 80-year-old donor become stem cells with molecular age under 20
Cheating senescence is kind of the ultimate adaptation. If we can crack this then I'd expect designing other artificial adaptations to be quite tractable in the future.

Better stack your chips too. At this point I think there's a fair chance massive life extension will be available before I die, but I likely wont be able to afford it.
c22··on Food processing influences metabolism and brain activity
This is why I always put the amount of chips I want to eat on a plate before I eat them.
c22··on I hired an illustrator to draw my house. Now it's my Home Assistant dashboard
Regular photogammetry is probably sufficient for this sort of project.
c22··on Show HN: Glashütte Trash Clock – A 30-minute pendulum clock made from trash

This is just the obviously sort of thing you gotta do to make sure your writing isn't mistaken for ai these days.
c22··on Ideas on modernizing the open-source desktop
100%. The other day I needed to record a small snippet of audio so I installed some random audio recorder app from the app marketplace. It worked fine, but I could only see and replay my audio clip from inside the app, so the first thing I did was "share" it to my email which thankfully arrived as an attached .m4a file I could actually work with.
c22··on Uber arbitration award over Emily Normandin-Parker’s death
This sounds about right. When Uber's driverless car killed someone they got off pretty easy:

*"In March 2019, Arizona prosecutors ruled that Uber was not criminally responsible for the crash. The back-up driver of the vehicle was charged with negligent homicide, pled guilty to endangerment, and was sentenced to three years' probation." [0]

c22··on ChatGPT now knows what you do on other websites via ad collector
No ad has ever converted me yet the ad networks keep showing me ads.
c22··on The American Religion of Self-Storage Facilities
You can allow the liquid to evaporate off in an evaporation pond, or combine it with an absorbent gel. Then the solids can be put in trash.
c22··on The American Religion of Self-Storage Facilities
Cashflow from renting to a franchisee must be fantastic. You pick the locations and the decor. If the business does well you prosper, but if the business does poorly you're insulated from the downside, the rent is due either way! If the franchisee can't hack it you repossess the building and rent it to some other suc^H^H^Hfranchisee.
c22··on All grown-ups were once children, but only few of them remember it
Have you tried setting up a tub of water at home and gluing some magnets to some rubber ducks? When my son was 7 I would pay him his weekly allowance and he would get distracted and leave it on some random table and walk away. It's likely the act of fishing for ducks is more appealing in this instance than any potential ROI calculation.
c22··on What do Visa and Mastercard do? An intro to card networks
Serial number scanning is a common feature of electronic cash counters (also networking!) I'm pretty sure all incoming serial numbers are scanned and checked against a database to find stolen banknotes. I don't know if any banks are tracking outgoing serial numbers, but it would be pretty trivial to implement. I've noticed when I go in and withdraw cash from a human teller that the cash no longer comes from a drawer, but rather is dispensed by an automatic cash handling machine and then handed to me.
c22··on “Tweet” and the bird logo apparently enter the public domain
You can just add this to your contract if you think there's a good shot at success.
c22··on AI models ran real businesses: They sent $12,431 in fake invoices, lost $3,200
The last paragraph is the punchline.

c22··on Google Maps changed to show Lake Ontario as Lake America

c22··on California lawmakers unanimously pass Linux exemption from age-verification law
The comment you're replying to is saying that it's not actually about protecting kids, but rather controlling large businesses.
c22··on I co-founded Burning Man. The festival has lost its soul
It might be true technically, but I've been about a dozen times and in my memories of the place it can often be hard for me to determine which ones happened on which year.
c22··on Meta's blockbuster trial draws parallels to big tobacco
I'm sure what I bought does better than some others. I'm also sure some others have done better than me. Statistically speaking this has to be true of almost everyone. Probabilistically speaking I'm likely somewhere near the middle of the bell.
c22··on Meta's blockbuster trial draws parallels to big tobacco
When I invest I don't really care if I end up better off than others. I'm just hoping to catch some slice of the ongoing economic growth so my at-rest wealth doesn't become devalued by inflation.
