calebegg··on Plastic experts say recycling is a scam. Should we even do it anymore?
Glass recycling is very efficient, but manufacturing new glass is just cheaper. So without a government subsidy, it's usually not worth it for the recycling plant.
calebegg··on Microsoft suggests command line fiddling to get Windows 10 update installed
Do they dogfood these updates internally like Google does with Android and Chrome OS?
calebegg··on Show HN: I scraped 25M Shopify products to build a search engine
For some reason, "view source" gets the right list. Maybe a referer issue like someone else said.
calebegg··on Show HN: I scraped 25M Shopify products to build a search engine
It seems sort of questionable to use the list of things to not scrape as a starting point for scraping.... I mean, I get it's not actually enforced.
calebegg··on Show HN: Conway's Game of Life in TypeScript's type system
How do I run this/see the results? I'm a little lost.
calebegg··on Emoji Generator with AI
I know, I thought it was a mistake but then I literally laughed out loud once I understood.
calebegg··on HTML Design Principles (2007)
I don't disagree with you but I did find the linked article very interesting to read absent any context.
calebegg··on Remove “This incident will be reported.” from user warnings
> Social media communities really ought to observe a [...] rule

Oh honey....

calebegg··on Battery-free Game Boy (2020)
(to be fair, it also gets power from the buttons)
calebegg··on Show HN: Terra Firma, a playable erosion simulation
It runs with that option but trees don't render properly so it's not perfect.
calebegg··on Show HN: Terra Firma, a playable erosion simulation
I did not know about that option!
calebegg··on Show HN: Terra Firma, a playable erosion simulation
It looks really cool and I'd love to play it but I don't have a Windows PC. Any chance you have plans to make it available on Linux/Steam Deck?
calebegg··on A Letter from _why (2005)
@dang this should have (2009) in the title
calebegg··on Feathered robotic wing paves way for flapping drones
Interesting
calebegg··on My mom left behind some number code
It worked! :D
calebegg··on Pirate Weather: A free, open, and documented forecast API
Sometimes the NOAA APIs don't return data according to the usual structure. I can't consistently reproduce it. If you can please let me know!
calebegg··on Pirate Weather: A free, open, and documented forecast API
Lol I named my version "Bright Earth" as an opposition to dark sky (brightearth.app)
calebegg··on How to store your app's entire state in the url
> The maximum URL size is 2048

FYI, this is almost entirely untrue. Maybe for some old versions of IE, but modern browsers can handle extremely long URIs

calebegg··on My mom left behind some number code
Funnily enough, your comment is now the top search result for that query....
calebegg··on Show HN: URL Snake
Shameless plug: my (free, ad-free) side project does this too: https://codewich.com
calebegg··on Show HN: GPTDuck – Ask questions about any GitHub repo
It worked for the code for my personal website at ca.lebe.gg

https://github.com/calebegg/website

It's very impressive!

calebegg··on English as She Is Spoke (1884) [pdf]
An excellent watch
calebegg··on Sesame allergen labeling law has unintended effect: sesame in more foods
The local fox network affiliates aren't generally strongly connected to the news/misinformation cable channel. It would be like boycotting The Simpsons because of fox news.
calebegg··on Heathrow tells airlines to stop selling additional flights until September
I find it truly baffling how articles nowadays have three headlines: the one in the URL, the one in the page title (shown by the browser) and the actual one on the page:

> heathrow-tells-all-airlines-to-stop-selling-any-flights-until-11th-september

> Heathrow tells BA (and other airlines) to stop selling tickets for the Summer period

> SOLD OUT: Heathrow tells all airlines to stop selling ANY flights until 11th September

Isn't that just much more work for so little "benefit" (SEO?)

Anyway, now none of them match the title on HN, so I have no answer to your question.

calebegg··on Electric fan car shatters the Goodwood hill climb record
Fascinating link, I've never heard of these micromice before
calebegg··on Knowledge is like a house of cards
To be honest, I find those 'st' ligatures incredibly distracting. Is there a way to turn that feature off in Chrome?
calebegg··on Including “And. And. And. And. And.” in a Google doc causes it to crash
Something I recently found out about is you can go to https://docs.new to create a new Google doc.

calebegg··on Why the Black MacBook Cost More
It's a definitional distinction. The "black laptop market" is different from the "white laptop market", in much the same way as luxury good markets work (see also: the Apple Watch Edition). It's the same as with haircuts -- women have proven by and large to be willing to pay more for haircuts than men, so women's haircuts cost more, in general. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gender-based_price_discriminat...

Price discrimination gets a bad rep because of the name I think, but as Wikipedia points out student discounts are probably the best example and are basically uncontroversial.

calebegg··on Faking a Positive Covid Test
I can't find a citation now, but my understanding of why these test use bluetooth is that the FDA + CDC want to know how many people are testing positive. So the app has to report results to them.
