game developer. I've been developing games since I was 14. Started with my Commodore VIC-20 and then moved to ZX Spectrum, PC, Symbian and now focused on online games. Yet trying to get my first hit... but getting old.

carlos··on IMSAI 8080 computer (2004)
Basically have fun playing around with it in the same way as with a real IMSAI8080... As an example look at this video on how to enter and run a small assembler program using the switches. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xYNAMKPBSFI
carlos··on IMSAI 8080 computer (2004)
I bought an Imsai8080 replica from https://thehighnibble.com/imsai8080/ I had a really nice time building the kit, toggle switches and display leds look exactly like original ones. Internally is an emulation of the IMSAI 8080 based on the ESP32 microcontroller
carlos··on 1983 Radio Shack Catalog
I also started with a notebook, before getting a commodore vic-20. Pencil and Basic, you were the CPU.
carlos··on Free Beginners Guitar Course Online
I've been using this online training for long time already. I would say it's not only for beginners but also for intermediate levels too. It covers many different guitar styles. During this long time I've seen how the page positively evolved and I'm happy to see how one person (justin) which is doing a superb job in giving those lessons for free is getting more and more attention. This is in my opinion a good example of how perseverance, free content and love for what you do can at then end pay back with a very good reputation from users and I guess good money with the selling of same free online content but as DVDs,books, etc
carlos··on Mailcheck.js - How we decreased sign up confirmation email bounces by 50%
Awesome. One issue found, a hotmail.es was suggesting a hotmail.fr domain
carlos··on My stupid ways to draw the attention of Techcrunch
Thanks. The online game is at: http://www.tengaged.com
carlos··on Does everyone need to learn to program?
just those 2 lines of basic made thousands of developers
carlos··on Ask HN: How soon do founders usually realize that startup failed
It's inversely proportional to the money received by a VC. That's why it's a must to have your startup as small as possible.
carlos··on Does everyone need to learn to program?
I believe programming will be some day a mandatory subject in schools. Not like everybody needs to be an expert but at least some basic knowledge of it.
carlos··on Ask HN: How do I come up with an idea?
Stop thinking about new ideas and start getting deeper in the first thing that comes to your mind. Iterate through it, don't develop yet. Be at least one/two weeks thinking only about it, Can it be extrapolated to something else?, How would you do it?, Improve it in your mind, iterate few times, find which niche could fit. Start implementing it... and iterate again, and again.

After a few weeks you will get a deep understanding on it... ideas will flow.

carlos··on Your favorite programmer doesn't like coding
I enjoy coding my own ideas and not that much others ideas. Basically from 9 to 5 I just code, from 5 to 10 I enjoy (coding).
carlos··on Launching TODAY (with one humble product)
I think the idea is great and site looks very nice. Only problem I see is the name "printingfacebook.com" as it may cause some branding issues with facebook.
carlos··on Is Spain now cooking its books?
I agree some of the comments in FT are very interesting.

I'm not saying that productivity is going up, it's in fact going down, as the article says -3.1 variation GDP 2008-2009. But the ratio of unemployment/varGDP is very different to other countries because of the additional unemployment from construction industry, which is the suspicious indicator used by the author.

In any case I personally agree with some of the comments in the FT article saying that Spanish government may artificially modify some figures.

carlos··on Is Spain now cooking its books?
I live in Spain. From my understanding the ratio of Unemployment rate/GDP is very high because of the construction bubble collapse. That 9.7 increase are 80% because construction industry mainly. This bubble collapse affects much more to the increasing unemployment rate than to the GDP (which also does but less dramatically). That's is because we can't compare the ratios from Spain to other countries in Europe, as we have this additional problem.
carlos··on Why read books if we can’t remember what’s in them?
> To twist a phrase from Glengarry Glen Ross: "ABL - Always Be Learnin'."

Bad memory forces you to always be learning, at least trying to learn a bit more than what it's forgotten.

carlos··on Ask HN: Has Techcrunch Just Joined DeadPool?
I think that Techcrunch will enter the DeadPool once Mike Arrington leaves (2-3 years).
carlos··on The Facebook API: A Case Study in Not Caring About Developers
Fully agree. Documentation is incomplete and it really slow things much when trying to implement it seriously and not just in a demo page.
carlos··on Why read books if we can’t remember what’s in them?
I had the same problem, and sometimes it's embarrassing to say you read a book but don't remember anything about it. I'm happy I'm not the only one.

I loved the one of the sentences in post "You are all what you read". I would also add "We read what we want to be".

(now starting to forget the post)

carlos··on Working computer made out of Minecraft blocks
It's amazing. LOL when I saw the pigs jumping!
carlos··on Tim Armstrong: We Got TechCrunch
will Mike move out from Seattle now?
carlos··on It's Official: AOL Acquires TechCrunch
congrats to Mike!. Will he move out from Seattle now?
carlos··on Lessons of the Chewbacca Incident
Given the length of the article I guess that it's not only the most engaged, but actually the only ones who read it. I don't believe that article can be read in less than 5-10 minutes.
carlos··on Apple Peel turns iPod into iPhone
you can talk and SMS... but what about 3G browsing?
carlos··on Ask HN: Site for reviewing Apps/Business Ideas
Maybe you could have a list of entrepreneurs, each entrepreneur could have a different fee and you should be able to choose based on your interest. I would pay much more for a well known entrepreneur that is related to my area of business to have my site reviewed.
carlos··on Mark Zuckerberg to Become Comic Book Hero, Villain?
ordering a "Barbie Silicon valley" - now includes Mark as her boyfriend :) (I think you can pay it with Facebook credits...)
carlos··on If someone swapped out your CPU for a slower one, would you notice?
Windows already swapped my CPU...
carlos··on Ask HN: What's Your Story?
Commodore vic-20! I still have it, 5Kb RAM teach you how to be efficient
carlos··on Advice on Finding a Technical Cofounder
Many times technical cofounders are used to basically "develop" the founder's idea. Anybody looking for a technical cofounder should give more than just ideas. Ideas are just 1% of the total work.
carlos··on What is the best comment in source code you have ever encountered?
the best comment is the empty one ;)

carlos··on Chrome 7 Will Get 60 Times Faster
As rendering will get much faster, I guess we can consider JS will much faster too, at least when using canvas with JS, which I believe it's the most important bottleneck right now.
