ccannon··on Using load shedding to avoid overload
This is a master class. So many good tidbits.
ccannon··on Interview with DuckDuckGo CEO Gabe Weinberg
If they are successful I think it’s entirely possible that people will switch back to using Google and away from DDG if they can be certain their data is kept private.
ccannon··on The Source History of Cat
Ah now I understand!
ccannon··on The Source History of Cat
I always wondered where the name cat came from which the article doesn’t address. Any ideas?

ccannon··on Jekyll Static Web Hosting – Deployment Pipeline on AWS
I think there’s a much easier way to do this with Jekyll and s3_website. I describe the setup here: https://www.cannon.codes/static-site-generator-evaluation/
ccannon··on Go 1.8.3 is released
Maybe it just serves as a reminder to update Go?
ccannon··on AWS Glue - Fully managed data catalog and ETL service
Data Pipeline was a great version 1 of this idea, but the lack of functionality in the UI really killed it for me. It seemed inevitable that I would end up just writing the JSON configuration by hand.
ccannon··on AWS Glue - Fully managed data catalog and ETL service
Is it just me or does this look like AWS Data Pipeline with an actually feature-complete and usable user interface?
ccannon··on EC2 Price Reduction (C4, M4, and T2 Instances)
Our Amazon rep tells us it's all about the cost of electricity.
ccannon··on Federal health expert drop flossing from health guidelines
One word: Waterpik. It's the only thing that has a major influence on my oral hygiene. Here's the one I use: http://amzn.to/2ahIghr
ccannon··on Introducing unlimited private repositories
I think you are correct. Boy that is a confusing way to word it on Github's end.
ccannon··on Introducing unlimited private repositories
It's actually 2500% more expensive for the first 5 users. Github will never learn.
ccannon··on New UPenn Haskell Course Materials Released on GitHub
It might not be well known, but this is one of the premier courses on Haskell in a university setting.
ccannon··on On asking job candidates to code
If you're in the Philly area and want to work for a great company drop me a line at ccannon@50onred.com. We treat our candidates with the respect they deserve.
ccannon··on Dropbox’s Exodus from the Amazon Cloud
I applaud your efforts at answering all these questions and providing very detailed responses.
ccannon··on Show HN: hazelnut – A pythonic library to parse /proc/meminfo
How is this different than psutil?
ccannon··on PHP 7.0.0 Alpha 2 Released
PHP is an utter failure. Why on earth would one use "secure" as a subdomain? I can tell it's secure because it uses HTTPS. Also get a grip on reality and stop using SHA-1.
ccannon··on Clean Thesis – A clean, simple, and elegant LaTeX style for thesis documents
Stop wasting time coming up with elegant thesis formats and finish your thesis!
ccannon··on Clean Thesis – A clean, simple, and elegant LaTeX style for thesis documents
You're right, most universities dictate what style you should use. However, if you wanted to publish your thesis for your own personal use it might be nice to port it to this clean thesis format.
ccannon··on Useful Techniques in Go
Re #7: Why have a function wrap it at all if all you're going to do is return the function?
ccannon··on Useful Techniques in Go
These are excellent tips.
ccannon··on Show HN: Highlander – Stop Overlapping Python Cron Jobs
Yeah the flock documentation leaves something to be desired to say the least.
ccannon··on Show HN: Highlander – Stop Overlapping Python Cron Jobs
This is completely false. If you actually read the source code, you would discover that once the left over file is read Highlander would know that the process is not currently running, remove the old PID file, and create a new one.
ccannon··on Show HN: Highlander – Stop Overlapping Python Cron Jobs
Haha I hadn't see that before, awesome. I still standby the name as being logical and memorable.
ccannon··on Show HN: Highlander – Stop Overlapping Python Cron Jobs
This is a multi-platform solution.
ccannon··on Show HN: Highlander – Stop Overlapping Python Cron Jobs
If you want to look at it from an OO perspective I guess you could say that. It simply just only lets one python script run at a time.
ccannon··on Show HN: Highlander – Stop Overlapping Python Cron Jobs
This is a much simpler solution to a less complex problem.
ccannon··on Show HN: Highlander – Stop Overlapping Python Cron Jobs
This is not meant for distributed systems.
