cfreeman··on Firefox’s New WebSocket Inspector
It could be the different extensions you have installed. Often this happens with adblockers, so if you use incognito mode or another browser it would fix it.
cfreeman··on Firefox is on a slippery slope
Seems kind of silly to ignore that javascript enables much more robust user interfaces. It can and is used poorly or maliciously, but it's used for far more than cosmetic or financial reasons.
cfreeman··on SpaceX sticks 11th rocket landing after launching first used Dragon capsule
There are cold gas thrusters, grid fins, and the main engines are gimballed.
cfreeman··on SpaceX sticks 11th rocket landing after launching first used Dragon capsule
There's not going to be hundreds. The first crew flight is supposed to happen next year.
cfreeman··on On the Unhappiness of Software Developers
I simply can't program with a laptop in my lap without my hands/back starting to hurt immediately. I'd love to work from the beach but I really need an ergonomic setup to get any real work done.
cfreeman··on Trump quits Paris climate accord, calling it a “bad deal” for the U.S
Why would people have not heard of Nicaragua?
cfreeman··on Lyft adds a new app for drivers
Here in Portland almost every driver uses both apps so I don't find a difference in driving. I prefer Uber simply because there's less expectation of tipping and the price is about the same.
cfreeman··on Another Group of Google Veterans Starts a Self-Driving Technology Company
Humans and computers have different strengths though. Just because humans can't do something good doesn't mean computers can't, and vice-versa.
cfreeman··on Larry Garfield Expelled from the Drupal OSS Community for Gor Interest
I've seen this kind of situation unfold before in a tech community. Without picking a side here, I will say that one thing that really bothers me is the lack of transparency. The whole concept of being able to publicly shame/expel someone without providing real evidence to support that action because of "privacy" seems extremely unfair.
cfreeman··on Berlin Living Rooms
> It doesn't take away from anything when it's off.

While you can certainly design a room around a modern TV easier than in the past, I still find them to be aesthetically unpleasing when I'm not using them. Especially when dealing with small apartments and studios, I don't want a large TV in my space.

cfreeman··on On Loneliness
Commute to work, write emails
cfreeman··on Google Has Started Penalizing Mobile Websites with Intrusive Pop-Up Ads
I usually rate one star when an app I'm using tries to force me to review when I'm in the middle of trying to use it.
cfreeman··on The UBI already exists for the 1%
I'm not so certain it's a majority. I think growing up wealthy and not working has a profound effect on people. It isolates you from the majority of the population, and removes any external pressure to grow and take risks.
cfreeman··on What it’s like to work at Snapchat
I just got an iPhone for the first time after many years of Android. I was sick of the Android versions of most popular apps being much worse/buggier than their iOS counterpart. It's not just Snap.
cfreeman··on Uber’s self-driving cars start picking up passengers in San Francisco
I know Elon has talked about some sort of minibus form factor for their taxi fleet plans.
cfreeman··on Waymo: Google's self-driving car company
A good portion of traffic in downtown areas is people driving around trying to find parking.
cfreeman··on You might not need that $15K coding bootcamp
The bootcamp I went to gave us a one-month internship and some job-seeking help/training. That plus giving us more networking opportunities and people to learn with was a huge help for me. We also spent most of the time pair programming. There is a lot you can get out of a bootcamp that is hard to do on your own. That being said, if you are motivated enough, learning on you own is still the most cost-effective method.
cfreeman··on Farm grows vegetables in a desert using sun and seawater
I think that's one of the reasons Mars Colonization would be a great thing for humanity overall. The technology we would have to perfect to survive on Mars would be very useful back on Earth.
cfreeman··on Requests for Startups Refreshed
I love this idea. I think bringing the idea of blue apron to a lower income market would be amazing, especially if it could take advantage of government incentives. One of the hardest things about cooking healthy is doing all the meal planning.
cfreeman··on Making Humans a Multiplanetary Species [video]
I think it just comes with the type of person who fits the programmer stereotype. I don't think being cynical makes one a better programmer.
cfreeman··on Elon Musk on How to Build the Future
Well he is technically the CTO of SpaceX.
cfreeman··on I Hate Being Single and It Doesn’t Make Me Weak
That seems bizarre to me, why? I mean, certainly it's harder because everyone is busy with adult responsibilities, but why can't you still get together with friends from time to time?
cfreeman··on Google+ Redesigned
Yeah but this is supposed to be a flagship product from Google. It should be an example of top-tier UX design.
cfreeman··on Why Electric Cars Will Be Here Sooner Than You Think
Only on road trips or if you have an extremely long commute. The vast majority of the time with an electric car it's much more convenient because you charge overnight. You never have to go to a gas station again.
cfreeman··on Contempt Culture (2015)
And social reasons aren't important? It's classic socially clueless developer mentality to think technical considerations are the only thing that matter.
cfreeman··on Stalking your Facebook friends on Tinder

cfreeman··on New Cities
Good luck on getting a rule like that implemented with little or no grandfathering. The economics of that are just too extreme.
cfreeman··on Announcing .NET Core 1.0
I think you are truly in a minority if you'd rather take a survey than have the data collected automatically. There has to be a sane middle ground.

cfreeman··on Beijing is banning all foreign media from publishing online in China
Unless I was under some big time crunch, I would gladly trade that amount of time for the luxury of being driven on a long roadtrip.
