cft··on Anthropic S-1
What does it mean in practice for the retail users of Claude?
cft··on Three new discoveries in mathematics, computer science, and physics
Yes, but it has also been known for 50+ years that QED has a Landau pole and might be UV trivial or inconsistent, whereas QCD has asymptotic freedom and is thus controlled at UV.

More to the point, QCD has been experimentally tested both at UV (deep inelastic scattering) and at IR, while the physical meaning of testing QED at UV Landau pole regime is unclear.

Why? Did any physicist really doubt it? 4d QCD has been used for approximate calculations for about 45 years

MacBooks with large RAM and optimized for local models should be Apple's medium term goal.

Right, for the important stuff, not this LLM bullshit, people did have either PhDs or came from eminent universities and organizations:

"The EU's common-charger initiative can be traced to Solomon Passy and Gergana Passy, two Bulgarian politicians who proposed it in 2008. Interestingly, Solomon Passy had a PhD in mathematical logic and computer science."

Some even had postgraduate studies in philosophy.

cft··on US Wages Share of GDI at 75 Year Low
Only 17% of people who laid out LLM transformer foundations between 2017 and 2022 had relevant PhDs. Not that I expect it would sway your faith or stop the downvotes, but just quoting anyway:

Right, from Wright brothers airplane to modern GPT LLMs founders, they were all university researchers that are now being gutted by Trump:

cft··on Starlink pushes back against EU-imposed restrictions on satellite telephony
In Spain, for example, there is an unpublished list of blocked websites. Among other concerns, they're probably afraid that they won't be able to censor with Starlink.
cft··on Where is all the new, good software?
AI coding is great but the distribution channels have been closed for a while. App stores are effectively closed for new apps and old internet is dead.

Retiro is a park, no buildings there. Are you proposing CA style encampments?
cft··on Crypto Capture of Foreign Aid
That's why in Northern California all the roads are constantly under construction, but in Finland they're perfect. I was thinking that in California one needs to get an SUV simply because a sedan's suspension will not last much longer
cft··on Crypto Capture of Foreign Aid
I developed a three-tier corruption test in US:

1. Perfect roads. Little visible construction despite high traffic: no corruption.

2. Awful roads. Almost no visible construction - medium corruption.

3. Continuous years-long construction. Roads always semi -closed, semi-permanent "work zone". When one construction ends, another immediately starts - extremely high corruption

I ran out of Opus 5.5 20x plan in 4 days out of 7, so my experience is different from yours.
cft··on When did Google get so weird?
The politically intriguing CEO and all the upper management that he hired need to go. Their focus is not the product but the corporate intrigue, dividing the pie and infighting, riding on semi-monopoly status.

After the initial AI flop, it seemed likely that the founders recognized that Google doesn't have an AI monopoly. But now it's becoming clear that this CEO is not leaving; therefore, Google is going down long-term.

By the way, that doesn't matter to the CEO because he has already extracted sufficient benefits.

cft··on New York Times and The Athletic workers demand company scrap Kalshi deal
No accountability in their doublespeak means no partisan interest, no lobby prescribing how to spin the news. This is what they (and the downvoters here) don't like.
cft··on New York Times and The Athletic workers demand company scrap Kalshi deal
Prediction markets as a news source are politically unbiased and nonpartisan , and this is what the establishment people here don't like.
cft··on New York Times and The Athletic workers demand company scrap Kalshi deal
The cancerous Wikileaks which also leaked news just like prediction markets has also been eliminated. I hope you celebrated.
cft··on Anthropic banned me for "suspicious signals"
It's a difference between peer-to-peer Bitcoin decentralization and extreme AI datacenter centralization. Open weight models currently also require centralized datacenters for training, even though inference can be done decentralized.. We will see whether centralization or decentralization wins long term.

No, because it's not cross platform, it doesn't take you outside of a Google product
cft··on GPT-5.6 vs. Claude Fable 5 for Physical AI, which performs best?
I just spent 50% of my weekly Sol Ultra on a $100 plan to purge Claude worktrees on something that may have tripped Fable guardrails.
cft··on Android Developer Verification: Threat masquerading as protection
Carry a second cheap smartphone, like Pixel -a series or iPhone -SE. That one should be used for banking, government apps, for border inspections, etc. On your main GrapheneOS phone your financial app should be a Bitcoin wallet. The main phone should be off or in the BFU state when you are in a vulnerable situation.
cft··on U.S. government will decide who gets to use GPT-5.6
If true, I think Trump is nuts. He's alienating the very people in the Silicon Valley that helped him to win.
cft··on Google employee charged with $1M Polymarket insider trading bet on search term
That's a very naive take of someone who never professionally traded. There are liquidity providing, market making trading strategies that work in absence of insider information.
