Here's some more details on the project. Maybe I should've linked to this instead: https://x.com/i/status/1999703580958208467
cglong··on Show HN: Find Hidden Gems on HN
LLMs are also notoriously verbose. Don't know if that's the case here, but not sure how "Passion" protects against that
cglong··on The Rise and Fall of Music Ringtones: A Statistical Analysis
While I do agree the iPhone was the major cause, I think this was an intentional move by Apple. During the early years, iTunes let you make your own ringtones for free using songs in your library. GEICO even had a novelty ringtone online you could download to your iPhone for free. Eventually, Apple started selling premade ringtones (for the same price as the full song!), after which the built-in iTunes functionality was removed.
cglong··on Retro Boy: simple Game Boy emulator written in Rust, can be played on the web
One major disadvantage is that this one doesn't seem to have an OSS license :(
cglong··on Bio Cringe – The Obnoxious Social Media Bio Generator
Congrats on shipping! Should this be a Show HN? https://news.ycombinator.com/showhn.html
cglong··on Solitaire
I heard from an obscure source (a former Zachtronics intern in a stream chat) that they're currently building a new game
cglong··on Apple Invites
I'll blame Apple for dragging their feet on RCS as long as they possibly could
cglong··on Feluda – A CLI tool to detect restrictive licenses in dependencies
Any reason the repo license is MIT but the crate is CC-BY-NC-ND-4.0? The latter is ironic, given this project's scope :)

cglong··on I ditched the algorithm for RSS
I've been trying to get back into RSS recently. The problem I keep having is the dramatic weight difference between a news site and a personal blog; I'm occasionally interested in what the news site posts, but its volume is so overbearing that it's all I see in my feed. I just walk away with FOMO every time.

I'm currently thinking about trying Feedly AI as an algorithm that could surface good content for me.

cglong··on Ask HN: Favorite blog in 2024?
I've started relying on Michael Tsai's blog for Apple-centric news and insights: https://mjtsai.com/blog/
cglong··on Trying to use Bluesky without getting burned again
I keep seeing people say BlueSky should be a paid service, but X gets mocked ruthlessly for this.
cglong··on Show HN: App that asks ‘why?’ every time you unlock your phone
Leaving it at work goes one step further than my flow. I have AWP configured to automatically turn off at the end of the workday, so I become unavailable after that. There's always the possibility I can turn it back on after hours, but that extra step works well enough as a deterrent for me :)
cglong··on Show HN: App that asks ‘why?’ every time you unlock your phone
That's true with a separate work phone too right? And once I turn off the AWP for the day, all of that stops.
cglong··on Show HN: App that asks ‘why?’ every time you unlock your phone
Not GP, but I'm okay installing that stuff on my personal phone because it's isolated via Android Work Profile.
cglong··on I Don't Have Spotify
Thank you for the submission! Should this be a Show HN? https://news.ycombinator.com/showhn.html
cglong··on Useful built-in macOS command-line utilities
One-liner for previewing a file with Quick Look. I aliased this to `ql` :)

cglong··on What happened to the Japanese PC platforms?
You can ask Gemini to summarize a YouTube video for you! Also if you have YouTube Premium on Android, you can ask questions about the current video.

Here's Gemini's summary of GP's video: https://g.co/gemini/share/8c0417024a3f

cglong··on DevHub.app – Developer Utilities for macOS
Congratulations on the release! Since the submitter is the primary author, this should be marked as a Show HN: https://news.ycombinator.com/showhn.html

cglong··on Kivy – a cross platform Python UI framework
Not quite what you're asking for, but Microsoft (my employer) has a free tool for checking web and Windows apps for accessibility best practices: https://accessibilityinsights.io/
cglong··on Kivy – a cross platform Python UI framework
Kivy's marketing seems to be targeting LOB apps. If I was going to develop one of those, I'd optimize for something standardized and easy to maintain (HTML/JS) vs. the performance benefits of a native UX or cross-platform framework.
cglong··on Kivy – a cross platform Python UI framework
The landing page is weird; it talks more about the funding for the framework than the framework itself. There's only one image showing UI, and the way its styled (cropped, tilted) makes me think its a stock photo, not a screenshot. The stock photo of a train right underneath isn't helping this perception for me.

If you got as lost as me, the Gallery is accessible via a link at the top: https://kivy.org/gallery.html

cglong··on Why Vivaldi won't follow the current AI trend?
Thank you for actually answering my question :)
cglong··on Why Vivaldi won't follow the current AI trend?
How do you know if an article is good or not? You have to waste your time reading at least some of it. I've found it useful to have ChatGPT generate a summary, then if the summary sounds interesting, then I read it.
cglong··on Why Vivaldi won't follow the current AI trend?
Here's the most recent article I summarized: https://daringfireball.net/2024/06/wwdc24_apple_intelligence

Gruber has always been loquacious, but this one seemed excessive to me. Still, I was curious for his overall impressions on Apple Intelligence.

The summary sounded interesting to me, so I then dedicated time to read the source. To your credit, ChatGPT's summary was much more critical than the actual article.

cglong··on Why Vivaldi won't follow the current AI trend?
For people in agreement with Vivaldi, how are you summarizing articles today? I often find content that's not important but also too verbose, and having an LLM summarize it for me is perfect.

Right now, I'm doing this very manually, but am actually thinking of switching my browser just to have this capability baked in.

EDIT: Since everyone is asking why and how I use summaries, here's an example: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=40881021
