chalcolithic··on Ask HN: How to be alone?
If you struggle being alone - you're not meant to be alone. It's not everyone's cup of tea
chalcolithic··on The Mega-Rich Are Turning Their Mansions into Impenetrable Fortresses
can't they all be automated away? and who needs guards 100m underwater? shouldn't a well built submarine be safer than an underground bunker?
chalcolithic··on How long do job postings stay open?
Funny enough, on a local glassdoor clone the guys who failed technical interview discussed exactly this possibility precisely because the post was open for so long:)
chalcolithic··on The Mega-Rich Are Turning Their Mansions into Impenetrable Fortresses
they build bunkers and yachts, they never build long endurance submarines. why is that?
chalcolithic··on How long do job postings stay open?
I worked for a company that kept one job posting open for more than 4 years. They've used it to hire more than 100 people, but unless you worked there you wouldn't know.
chalcolithic··on Ask HN: Should account creation/origin country be displayed on HN profiles?
It is a very good thing for political discussions. I don't see how it would benefit HN.
chalcolithic··on Analyzing the Performance of WebAssembly vs. Native Code
thank you very much!
chalcolithic··on Analyzing the Performance of WebAssembly vs. Native Code
could you please name them?
chalcolithic··on Evidence of oldest known alphabetic writing unearthed in ancient Syrian city
It's not "why do you need writing?", it's "how do you discover writing?". Once it's discovered the new purposes will appear pronto.
chalcolithic··on WordPress Alternatives
strange that no aws-based alternatives exist

for low traffic websites cloudfront + lambda + dynamodb is free

chalcolithic··on The Death of the Minivan
high curbs? is it even legal?
chalcolithic··on The Death of the Minivan
Beg my pardon but what high ground clearance is needed for?
chalcolithic··on Small3dlib: Public domain 3D software rasterizer
>indigenous Australians have superior vision to white people

never heard of that, thank you

chalcolithic··on Synfig Studio – Open-Source 2D Animation Software
Never heard of it, thank you very much!
chalcolithic··on Small3dlib: Public domain 3D software rasterizer
No exessive caps.

No huge letters.

No colored background behind certain text lines.

No bright colors everywhere.

Nothing is blinking, nothing is moving.

This guy is obviously completely sane, just unorthodox.

chalcolithic··on Synfig Studio – Open-Source 2D Animation Software
on a related note - is there something like gltf but for 2d vector animation?
chalcolithic··on Why the U.S. can't build icebreaking ships
Kind of pointless comparing Russian icebreaker number to anyone elses'. Russia is basically a huge pile of snow next to a huge floating pile of ice (geographically, not population-wise, but still). Nobody has even 10% of motivation for building icebreakers that Russia has.
chalcolithic··on I Am Tired of AI
In Soviet planet Earth AI gets tired of you. That's what I expect future to be like, anyways
chalcolithic··on Show HN: Learn Blender shortcuts with lots of tiny videos
Incredible! Before I've seen it I would never have guessed that something like that could be so good!
chalcolithic··on Real-time audio programming 101: time waits for nothing (2011)
You can actually do music/audio programming in a browser. It has some rough edges but it works.
chalcolithic··on 7-Eleven is reinventing its food business to be more Japanese [video]
>they often have a stack of microwaves

you mean sometimes they don't?

and in some countries they never have them?

chalcolithic··on SpaceX to deliver vehicle to deorbit International Space Station
It is sad that ISS exists at all. After the Mir the world should have gone rotating station route - the next logical step. Instead we have wasted so many resources on something that has already been done before
chalcolithic··on The Point of the Banach Tarski Theorem (2015)
It's very neat but the gist is that one infinity equals two infinities - infinities are weird. While technically it's cool does it really add anything to our understanding?
chalcolithic··on What UI density means and how to design for it
> Why have UIs gotten so sparse?

"Mobile first"

p.s. oops, sorry, not the first comment of this kind. well, it's just obvious

chalcolithic··on Avoidance of sun exposure as a risk factor for major causes of death (2016)
Southern Sweden! If sun poses a risk there...
chalcolithic··on DOJ: Man sentenced to 14 years for posession of deepfake CSAM
Isn't imagination enough?
chalcolithic··on DOJ: Man sentenced to 14 years for posession of deepfake CSAM
Do they come along with lifelong sentences as opposed to artificial diamonds that are legal?
chalcolithic··on DOJ: Man sentenced to 14 years for posession of deepfake CSAM
Not to mention that a good quality deep fakes (once legalized) will completely destroy any economic incentive for real CP production.
chalcolithic··on The Tale of Daniel
>clay tablets are expensive

That's not the first time I hear that. Still can't figure out why it was true.

chalcolithic··on The Ukraine war is ultimately about Poland
>global superpower with immense economic, political and military power

I seen it from inside - you've bought into a Potemkin's village. When it was a "global superpower" (on paper) it was a much, much worse country by any measure.

>You're nation is a political pariah with fleeting influence even among former ussr members.

When the war has started that's exactly where I moved to. Turns out you're very wrong about it (didn't know it myself)
