chamsom··on Maximizing the value of your Claude Code sessions
As a driver I want to spend the majority of the day optimizing my truck's gasoline usage so that I can focus on optimizing my productivity for an outcome I am too far disconnected from to care about anymore.
chamsom··on Figma Code Prototypes in Canvas
"Embed Make prototypes anywhere. Drop your prototypes into Figma Design, FigJam, and Figma Slides so your team can click through, interact, and give better feedback."
chamsom··on Apple to celebrate 50 years of thinking different
In a way, they're celebrating the art of thinking slower, more deliberately. This is almost counter to the velocity-driven and metric-pulled nature of the average technology company.

It's pretty typical to see the effort to reach "the next big thing" constitute flooding your organization with inputs.

chamsom··on Blender: Beyond Mouse and Keyboard
Agree here, they already have a good test bed of devices and the X13 is a bold attempt. (only limitation is the Snapdragon version).

I got a Lenovo Yoga precisely because it has a good drawing experience and the Lunar Lake Intel SoCs that have GPU acceleration in Blender.

chamsom··on Blender: Beyond Mouse and Keyboard
have you seen the guy doing Feather 3D for iPad? there's a lot of demand for 3D on touch screens, but hard to find the how.
chamsom··on Microplastics shed by food packaging are contaminating our food, study finds
Fabric fibers get into the bloodstream through inhalation, based on recent studies I've seen (feel free to challenge if this isn't settled science).

This seems to make that cheap polyester shirt infinitely more of a risk origin than some cereal with microplastics.

chamsom··on Fujifilm X half: Is it the perfect family camera?
According to this essay, the options for his kids are a $50 toy "camera" and an $850 niche camera possibly targeted at people who usually own the $2,000 line of the same brand. Surely there's something in between?

I can't help but wonder if this is a purchase for himself.

chamsom··on US Government UAP Footage
"Debunk" lacks scientific significance as the object remains anomalous and unidentified. It infers that this footage is of a "known" object, and any further intellectual inquiry should be suspended.

I think this paper is far more useful to discuss:

chamsom··on Will Figma become an awkward middle ground?
Getting designers willing to setup their workstation to hand code a React app with dozens of dependencies and be constrained by the DOM is not going to go very well. And then doing it all over again with several other web libraries/languages. This is not even design, it's a developer role who just happens to paint UI with code.
chamsom··on Another AI company wrote us and here’s our response
Created work even in a commercial capacity is protected IP. having AI train on those models for a publicly consumed LLM may not even be in the best interests of profit.

Law hasn't even evolved either. What if in the future people bring special tradecraft to companies that they don't want leaking elsewhere? who knows. the door is still open.

chamsom··on Half of Workers Around the World Are Struggling with Burnout
Curious about tech burn out as well on top of the job market. A lot of software that was once lauded are now poorly received by the public, so you either recognize the reality of your corporate work or persist in delusion.
chamsom··on Massachusetts 911 Call Outage
“A preliminary investigation conducted by the State 911 Department and Comtech determined that the outage was the result of a firewall, a safety feature that provides protection against cyberattacks and hacking. The firewall prevented calls from getting to the 911 dispatch centers, also known as Public Safety Answer Points (PSAPs).”
chamsom··on Could I use the iPad as my only computer?
There's a 3rd party app the run the Figma editor inside. You can also run it through browser, but it's more ideal on a 13".

Totally agree though, in this day and age 1st party Figma should be on there.

chamsom··on Biden signs TikTok bill into law, starting clock for ByteDance to divest
"which will prove this" is not a prediction, it's an assertion of absolute truth.
chamsom··on Biden signs TikTok bill into law, starting clock for ByteDance to divest
You don't need records conduct research if a specific message is being spread on TikTok against chance, to at least back up an unsubstantiated theory — even if not practical in the court of law.

For anyone who uses TikTok regularly, it's evident there frequently political content that outright contradict's China's positions, spreading unfettered through the platform.

chamsom··on Biden signs TikTok bill into law, starting clock for ByteDance to divest
You contradict yourself by asserting "arbitrary action X, which will prove this" implying the party is guilty by mere speculation about unknowns.
chamsom··on Biden signs TikTok bill into law, starting clock for ByteDance to divest
Please cite a well written study to back up your claim that is not an opinion piece or some state sanctioned message, from any country.
chamsom··on Cybertruck Stuck Accelerator Problem
A Cybertruck owner recently encountered an issue where the top cap that covers the pedal slides off and jams against the interior of the car. This then creates a situation where the pedal cap is pressing on the accelerator while jammed.

The video originated on TikTok, then posted by @elaifresh on X showing the exact video in which this happens.

chamsom··on Is the Physics of Time Changing?
I think you're onto something. I recall that you do not form memories with things that you don't bond with. Hence why there are very few accounts of dreaming on cellphones. Time also isn't perceivable when we can't see the gradual change in physical properties. It's like a suburban life where you are at home, then you travel in a metal block, to then arrive at another room. But you're not doing the in between stuff.
chamsom··on Public US hearing on UFOs [video]
The low effort comments on this topic is surprising, considering that this community has many experts in respective scientific fields. There is not much effort to bring deep legal/scientific critical analysis into the subject. Even if this is an extraordinary claim, that it is backed by so many professional witnesses should warrant sincere investigation rather than banter and ridicule.
chamsom··on Former intel officer says 'non-human biologics’ found at alleged UFO crash sites
This hearing really isn't about theory or based on your notions of what is likely. Instead, it stemmed from a whistleblower complaint regarding bureaucratic security layers to obfuscate projects from Congressional oversight. These projects are compartmentalized behind SAPs and misappropriation of government funds.
chamsom··on Show HN: Filmbox, physically accurate film emulation, now on Linux and Windows
There’s an handful of people Ukraine and Russia who services a specific model of 16mm cameras. I just don’t know how much longer these film cameras will be around.
chamsom··on Show HN: Filmbox, physically accurate film emulation, now on Linux and Windows
While I can see people thinking a LUT a film emulation, it’s just the starting point. Many emulation tools only focus on color which is fine for most people.

For an authentic look, halation, grain patterns, diffusion, highlight roll off, detail resolve and other imperfections are needed to complete the look, of varying qualities for each film stock. Not to mention lens choice as well. Modern lens with software correction may not look right.

Also this software is not specifically for photographers, it’s for motion picture.

chamsom··on AWS Amplify Studio: Figma design to full-stack apps
Figma's implementation uses WebGL so it might be difficult to pull off. I think there's some extra resources needed to act like flexbox, compared to actual flex box.
chamsom··on Marriott refused to host Uyghur conference, citing “political neutrality”
It says a lot that whenever someone presents a new idea that challenges existing views of international issues, we have to remind other posters of our personal alignment against the country on the other side of the fence.

It's okay to try to understand the world beyond conventional discourse. No one should be afraid of analyzing an issue with skepticism.

chamsom··on Dan Price says raising min wage to $70k led to baby boom, revenue rise
First, I don't disagree with your general conclusions, but the median salary of South Korea is not even close to the United States. It is closer to 30K annual. Taiwan is lower. Maybe for an expat it may seem higher, but if you get paid by a Korean company in accordance with local salaries, it doesn't get close to that.
chamsom··on Toxic ‘forever chemicals’ contaminate indoor air at worrying levels
California law TB117 required fire retardant foam until 2015 so a lot of couches have PFAS. This is an example of creating a problem by trying to avoiding another. Of course, this is not to single out CA as this is a global problem.

Could be wrong but it seems like the general rule is that manufacturers are allowed to "experiment in public" when it comes to chemical science. PFAS alternatives are already in the wild and we don't know what those do either.

Here's what you can do:

1. Open windows to your house, but also your car which contains PFAS in the upholstery

2. Minimize dust w/ vacuum, HEPA filters

3. Reduce use of old couches which stirs up dust until you replace it

4. Minimize polyurethane foam products - polyster foam is better

5. Paper/biodegradable takeout containers and fast food packaging have PFAS lined so the paper doesn't absorb oil etc.

chamsom··on Toxic ‘forever chemicals’ contaminate indoor air at worrying levels
If your clothing is waterproof or has some kind of exercise "moisture wicking" material, it is common to have PFAS.
chamsom··on America's “Friendscape” Crisis
It's harder to make friends in America than any other country I've lived in. Anecdotally, I can't even seem to notice a difference in between an immigrant vs someone who grew up here.
chamsom··on Clubhouse is the big stinker that nobody wants to talk about
Just as this author stated, the rooms in Clubhouse have turned into a garbage dump and many are things most people don't want to be associated with. You could be flicking through and accidentally enter one of these due to the way it's designed.
