The chinese AI and greymarket peptides scenes feel so vital, fun and wild-west. Imagine spending your life being beholden to USA corporations and being scolded on HN for violating a trillion dollar company’s ToS.
anesthesiologist here, I really fear a dodgy epidural being used for caesarean section surgical anaesthesia, and if there is any hint that an epidural isnt perfect I pull it out and do a spinal anaesthetic (as long as I have time eg. If the baby can wait long enough). Its a big call which needs to be made quickly. I have a theory that modern epidural medication mix has been dropped to be so low concentration of active drug that it is harder to differentiate a good epidural from a patchy one, and as a result people are topping up patchy epidurals and then running into problems with pain during surgery.
Looks like an array of ultrasound probes which is fine.. how does this deal with bone obstructing windows? the example with an abdo is feasible and fine but you cant do that with brain or easily with heart /lungs
The vision for the future elon gives us (exploring the stars, human augmentation, advanced AI likely leading to elimination of suffering) is a heaven-like vision in a western world where most people don’t believe in anything much, and many of our leaders and intellectuals are misanthropes who think having kids is selfish.
I don’t care what tesla’s quarterly sales are, I’m supporting elon’s vision.
I wish someone would do a large RCT of water fluoridation in pregnant women looking at long term cognitive outcomes if fetuses. It would be an easy study to do (just randomize each group to receive free deliveries of either fluoridated or not fluoridated water) and then look at their offspring’s scores on cognitive tests every few years. I think reputable scientists don’t touch this because they’re afraid of being labelled kooky.
I just do everything i can around the house immediately (as long as I dont have to go to work or whatever).. if its a long job it gives me the opportunity to listen to a podcast. “industry is its own reward”.
"actually, did we say we had 8,000 tons of gold in reserve? we meant 9,000. Yeah we just counted, no you can't look at it, we have 9,000, here take the yuan and go build vaccines"
Imagine if there was a gold which could be transferred across borders easily and completely securely within seconds, proof of holdings and ownership could be easily proven, and there was no future risk of gold supply shocks (eg gold asteroid hitting earth or alchemy becomes viable).
Has anyone had experienced with the giant magnet tiles? This article seems like suspicious affiliate marketing which places are beloved product that everybody has beside one that looks kind of similar.
An excellent use case for this is ethereum smart contract verification. People store millions of dollars in smart contracts that are probably a one or two iterations of claude or gemini away from being pwned.
Not so relevant to the thread but ive been uploading screenshots from citrix guis and asking qwen3-vl for the appropriate next action eg Mouseclick, and while it knows what to click it struggles to accurately return which pixel coordinates to click. Anyone know a way to get accurate pixel coordinates returned?
Hospitals all of the world are wholesale switching to chinese equipment - particularly mindray monitors/anaesthetic machines. China could brick all of these hospitals. We are so incredibly dependent on them.
Has it really though? Genuinely asking.. I’ve checked out a lot since 2010 or so but not sure I hear anything wildly different, vaporwave and sorta meme music was quite fresh but other than that im not sure.. maybe its just part of getting old and having less time to hunt around.
Less regulated? Circle has to keep 100% reserves backing all accounts whereas most US banks operate a low fractional reserve and lend mostly to billionaires funding moderately risky leveraged commercial real estate.
Why use something which appears to have very similar results to tirzepatide/mounjaro but hasn’t been used by tens of millions on people without obvious issues like tirzep?
