chrisvineup··on This is for bicycles what Tesla is for cars
These are all peripherals for your bike though, I agree totally these areas need more innovation :) ESPECIALLY bike theft.
chrisvineup··on Didn't Get Enough Sleep? You Might As Well Be Drunk

chrisvineup··on Didn't Get Enough Sleep? You Might As Well Be Drunk
You ARE PRESUMHNING I'M NOT TDRUNK!
chrisvineup··on This is for bicycles what Tesla is for cars
Bicycles are probably one innovative and competitive markets out there, the amount of cutting edge technology used to shave gram weight from components is absurd, there are thousands of manufacturers for each niche in the bicycle industry.
chrisvineup··on This is for bicycles what Tesla is for cars
Did you mean, this is to Motorbikes what Tesla is for cars? Isn't the bicycle already pretty damn perfect? I don't look at my bike and wish it could take petrol or was electric powered. There are tons of electric motor assisted bikes out there without the weight of a motorbike.
chrisvineup··on Snowden journalist to publish UK secrets
Releasing information as revenge for illegal detention is the wrong decision, why make it personal? Confront the illegal detention if it was illegal but don't make it reactionary and petty like this.
chrisvineup··on The president is wrong: The NSA debate wouldn’t have happened without Snowden
Yeah at some point in history, maybe. Its easy to say that after being caught with your dick in my inbox.
chrisvineup··on High Tech Cowboys of the Deep Seas: The Race to Save the Cougar Ace (2008)
Its an old one, but such a great article from Wired (which is a rarity these days).
chrisvineup··on Show HN: BitJoy
Any plans to add other cryptocurrencies? Litecoin etc?
chrisvineup··on Assange: How cryptography is a key weapon in the fight against empire states
Which is precisely why the government in the UK added encryption sections into the RIPA acts http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Regulation_of_Investigatory_P... people who fail to hand over keys to encryption can face a prison sentence. The rather obvious flaw in this is that people routinely forget their passwords and the prosecution have to prove intent.
chrisvineup··on [dead]
First off you say this was an emotional case to sell a book, you then use an emotional case to justify the Dads actions.

"Perhaps his wife had just died?"

A child's early development is MASSIVELY different to that of an adult, the way they are treated at a young age acts as a template for their future relationships, habits and personality.

You cannot treat a child as if they were an adults or versions of yourself, children are continually learning how to deal with new feelings and emotions, they struggle to concentrate sometimes and are almost always aloof.

Yes children learn to manipulate, but you are the adult, deal with it, ignore their requests, remind them of your earlier conversations...

Children become a reflection of their caretakers emotions, you treat them like shit, they will argue with you more and the cycle continues...

chrisvineup··on WikiLeaks Volunteer Was a Paid Informant for the FBI
I would have been more surprised if there were NO informants at Wikileaks, no organisation that relies on people is impervious to this.
chrisvineup··on How I Got Fired from the Job I Invented
Site is down...
chrisvineup··on Five Years of Stackoverflow.com
Nothing compares to the downvoting going on over at english.stack... Jesus, you better have perfect English if you want anything other than a negative rep.
chrisvineup··on Five Years of Stackoverflow.com
I do love SO, but the moderation can be really hard to deal with when you aren't sure how to articulate your question.
chrisvineup··on Priced out of Paris
Yeah start with that stupid Eiffel Tower its a bloody eyesore!
chrisvineup··on Kill your credit card-less free trial.
It would seem that no one has addressed the idea that maybe the product doesn't hold enough value to the user to continue after a trial, I really don't think these sorts of metrics are applicable unless both the business model and the product are virually idential to his.

There are too many factors to consider, what is the product? being the most important, how is it sold to me, what is the closing process?

What this post says to me is: we want our users credit card details because there is a likelyhood they will forget to cancel their trial and we will at least screw them out of one month subs.

chrisvineup··on My Latte is Worth It - No Fun Allowed
I purchased a car once, because someone told me that I'd spend 15k on coffee in my lifetime. As I drove away I realized I had been had. I don't drink coffee. (This was all a lie, I don't have a car and I drink too much coffee).
chrisvineup··on Is It Possible to Be Both a Founder and a Daddy?
My first though when I saw this question was "Please let the law of headlines be wrong". I'm a co-founder with two babies. Its hard but not impossible, having an understanding and supportive spouse is imperative.
chrisvineup··on Airbnb Stay Illegal In New York City, Rules Judge

chrisvineup··on Evolution of Hacker News
"The idea of a VC having its own news aggregator was a bit outlandish in 2007."

chrisvineup··on Engineering the $325,000 Burger
The amount of vivisection that will take place to bring this genetically modified monstrosity to market makes it too unethical to bear for me.
