Willing to relocate: No

Technologies: Java, Spring, Python, Rust, Bash, Kubernetes, Terraform, RabbitMQ, PostgreSQL, AWS, Prometheus/Grafana

Backend/platform engineer with 6 YOE. I started in DevOps consulting, building automation, CI/CD, and Terraform/Packer workflows for Fortune 500 clients, then moved into backend engineering on a healthcare claims/payments platform. Recent work includes owning a greenfield ingestion service from first commit to production, shipping cross-service billing integrations, resolving P1 performance issues, and supporting production services through Kubernetes, CI/CD, and observability ownership. Cut runtime by 90% on one client-sensitive workflow.

cjbconnor··on Claude Code removed from Anthropic's Pro plan
Curious to know what plan you're on? I was on the max 5x plan, but downgraded to pro a few days before the opus 4.7 release.
cjbconnor··on Claude Code to be removed from Anthropic's Pro plan?
I've had completely the opposite experience. I've asked for it to research things and it's just told me to "paste xyz into google". Just now I revisited a chat that's 5 days old and asked it to check again (because what I was looking for might have changed), and it said "no".

cjbconnor··on Intel Arc Pro B50 GPU Launched at $349 for Compact Workstations
4x Mini DP is common for low profile workstation cards, see the Quadro P1000, T1000, Radeon Pro WX 4100, etc.
cjbconnor··on Show HN: I built an app to get daily wisdom from Mr. Worldwide
Looks cool, but the bottom lines flicker badly on Firefox, Windows 11.
cjbconnor··on Ask HN: What $500-2500 product improved your 2022
I made two larger purchases this year that have had significant use and brought me enjoyment:

- A good stereo (Wharfedale Linton/NAD Amp) - A simracing setup (Fanatec DD/8020 Rig/Triples)

I listen to music probably 60+ hours a month and watch a movie every couple days, and it's a lot nicer not using headphones or a soundbar.

After using an entry-level sim wheel and pedals, I decided it would be cheaper and almost as fun to build a good rig compared to going to the track. Not to mention that I can race throughout the winter and in cars I otherwise wouldn't be able to experience.

cjbconnor··on Ask HN: What's your favorite software-free keyboard and mouse?
Ergodox EZ and a Zowie EC-1, sometimes a Realforce R2.

The mouse has hardware buttons on the bottom for DPI and polling rate, and zero software. It's also the most comfortable mouse I've used and has lasted 5 years without any issues. I flashed a custom (open source) firmware to my Ergodox once, never messed with it since then. The Realforce also has no software.

cjbconnor··on Launch HN: Boostly (YC S22) – SMS marketing for restaurants
Unfortunately, this sort of thing is a big turn-off for me. The thing that keeps me coming back to a restaurant is the quality of the food, not their marketing. What I've experienced is that as the quality of the food goes down, the number of marketing notifications goes up. I've gotten an email from chipotle every 2-3 days for the last month, but the last time I went there the food was terrible.

Also, your privacy policy isn't very confidence-inspiring. Sharing name, phone, and physical location with third parties shouldn't happen. I'd never use your services for that reason alone.

I wish you the best of luck, but I can't say your services are for me.

cjbconnor··on Lofi Girl: YouTube sorry for taking down music stream
Lofi girl is part of Lofi Records (https://lofigirl.com), and I think they only play their own songs.
cjbconnor··on What is triald and why is it taking so much disk space?
I've had Siri disabled the entire time I've owned my mac (just checked, still disabled), and my ~/Library/Trial dir is 180M, 136530 files.

cjbconnor··on 14-inch MacBook Pro review: A Mac Pro in your backpack
FWIW I never had any issues with either Catalina or Big Sur
cjbconnor··on 14-inch MacBook Pro review: A Mac Pro in your backpack
Displayport 1.4 (with DSC enabled) can support 4k 144hz+ with HDR enabled
cjbconnor··on 14-inch MacBook Pro review: A Mac Pro in your backpack
I've been using the Caldigit TS3+ for the last ~year, and it's pretty good. The only real issue with it I have is the fact that it only supports DisplayPort 1.2, so I have to run another cable for my 4k 120hz display.
cjbconnor··on Apple announces first states to adopt driver’s licenses and IDs in Apple Wallet
It doesn't exactly 'broadcast' your ID, physical proximity to your phone is still needed. It's like adding a loyalty card, etc. to apple wallet where you can just tap your device to the reader.
cjbconnor··on Intel Executive Posts Thunderbolt 5 Photo Then Deletes It: 80 Gbps and Pam-3
Bluetooth mice are often laggy and have a low polling rate
cjbconnor··on Solved by 1440p HiDPI: MacBook Pro 16“ is hot and noisy with an external monitor
This doesn't fix the issue, many people have had success with similar methods when running with the built-in display off. There's no getting around this with the built-in display active, or with any two non-matching resolution displays.
cjbconnor··on Stadia’s VP and head of product leaves Google
I have a gigabit connection with ~10ms latency and Stadia feels awful even for single-player games.
cjbconnor··on Ask HN: Do you know why new high-capacity WD drives make this weird noise?
I've experienced the same issue across 14 different WD red drives, mixed 10/8tb and helium/air filled. Whenever the pair in my Synology do it, the sound resonates so loud you can hear it across the house. I've tried everything to get them to stop, but sometimes they still make the noise for 30+ minutes at a time.

I initially thought part of the issue might be due to the drives being mounted directly to the case so I bought a set of anti-vibration rubber drive mounts, but it didn't help at all.

cjbconnor··on I can only think that modern front end development has failed
You can bypass the speed restrictions by decreasing the TTL on your machine by 1 [0], I tested it and it worked perfectly.

cjbconnor··on BeagleV – An affordable RISC-V computer designed to run Linux

cjbconnor··on M1 Macs cannot support dual Extended displays through their Thunderbolt 3 ports

cjbconnor··on LibrePhotos: A Self-Hosted Google Photos Alternative
Photoprism doesn't move photos around, I ran it in a docker container and just mounted my existing folder to /photoprism/originals and it worked fine.
