codebook··on 32-bit homebrew CPU using 74' series logic
Appraise for the effort. But I do not know why anybody did this kind of tedious job. Isn't it enough to do with Verilog / VHDL to fully understand basic architecture of CPU?
codebook··on My Pixel has a manufacturing defect
At the very beginning, Google advertises it as custom domain service. And I joined due to the feature (I can get my domain email without any harassment of setting the email server). Later Google changed it to business oriented and abandoned users like me.

Eventually, I opened new account with gmail.com address.

codebook··on ‘Diamond-age’ of power generation as nuclear batteries developed
How much is it? same as diamond?
codebook··on The .blog Bait and Switch
In my case, my surname TLD exists like XXX.{surname}. So I bought it w/ my first name ==> firstname.surname . It's cool and I will keep it as long as I can.

I agree with the OP. They seems to gather the popularity info by accepting pre-register requests.

Is there any policy to ban this behavior? Shouldn't the TLD be publicly opened?

codebook··on Demystifying the i-Device NVMe NAND
NVMe added feature of HMB (Host Memory Buffer) to use host DDR rather than internal RAM. So, I think this chip used HMB feature.
codebook··on Android: Choice at every turn
But I think most of the manufacturers, and OS providers (MS, Google, Apple) mandates there essential apps pre-installed and cannot delete it entirely.

If you blames Google, I think you also needs to blame all the above companies in addition to wireless providers.

codebook··on Android Auto: right on your phone screen
I am eager to get the Waze for Android Auto. Google Maps navigation always takes around 15 min more than estimation in bay area at commute time.
codebook··on Why hardware development is hard, part 1: Verilog is weird (2013)
Designing hardware is done by Visio and Excel not Verilog. Verilog is just an implementation. :)

Added: Visio is to draw timing diagram, block diagram, and flow chart. Excel is used for designing FSM next state logic / output.

codebook··on OpenCAPI Unveiled: AMD, IBM, Google, Xilinx, Micron and Mellanox Join Forces
Thanks for the info.

I would like to search the term and understand how they can achieve 200ns latency. Maybe am I the only one who thinks 200ns latency as completion latency?

codebook··on OpenCAPI Unveiled: AMD, IBM, Google, Xilinx, Micron and Mellanox Join Forces
It is really hard to believe that OpenCAPI can achieve this short latency with 25Gbps per lane interface and off-chip connectivity.
codebook··on OpenCAPI Unveiled: AMD, IBM, Google, Xilinx, Micron and Mellanox Join Forces
Still, many devices weren't able to fully utilize PCIe bandwidth and also latency. Turn around time is 1us to 1.5us for typical PCIe IP.

IMO, I'm a little bit pessimistic for OpenCAPI to reduce this latency much, unless it directly connects inside the chip.

codebook··on Epiphany-V: A 1024-core 64-bit RISC processor
I might be wrong. But if they automated the flow from RTL to GDS, the timing might not be optimal. I understand since they have lack of resources so that this is unavoidable but in normal chip design flow, the backend timing ECO is critical to achieve high frequency for all timing corners.
codebook··on G Suite: intelligent tools designed for teams
Now, there's no way to change primary domain. Any methods were blocked from Apr. 2016.
codebook··on Static Website Generators
Nobodu mentioned Hakyll, Haskell static site generator motovated by Jekyll.

I've been used it for over 4 yrs and still surprising.

codebook··on We Need a Better PC
2) ECC , IMHO, is useless on personal laptop. Error rate is quite low that "opportunity cost" is too high. Except that, MBPr is proper solution. So, let's hope Apple to solve your USB3 port issue. (you can report, by the way)
codebook··on Why I will be using RISC-V in my next chip
I'm still not sure whether RISC-V will be one of main stream microprocessor in the industry field.

1. Still the core is not yet solid.

2. Not much powerful debugging tools exist.

3. Chisel itself. Every engineer who is willing to use RISC-V should understand output of chisel source code in order to do ECO or some other low level jobs.

4. BSD itself. It is strong and also weakness. There's no way to merge revision into main repository. It will not be quite trouble if RISC-V remains as it is. But will be a big problem if RISC-V evolves by its own development team.

I hoped this RISC-V becomes mainstream processor since I attended the lecture from Mr.Yunsup Lee 4 years ago. I really want to say "I was wrong at that moment" after all.

codebook··on Google Begins Rolling Out Google Play Music Family Plan
I agree.

This reason made me to create new gmail account in order to use Project Fi. I really don't understand why Google releases product for gmail user only. They advertised google apps for work as custom domain at first.

codebook··on Why we moved away from GitHub
Agreed for JIRA and Confluence. They are quite hard to set correctly and use correctly.

I'd like to +1 for slack. Simple to use and manageable without much knowledge.

codebook··on 3D Xpoint memory: Faster-than-flash storage unveiled
you overlooked refresh time, which is around 7~8 ms. So, in order to keep the DRAM data alive, DRAM should consume a few tenths of Watt per Gigabyte per second, it is considerable amount of power.
