codeecan··on Security Threat Model Review of the Apple Child Safety Features [pdf]
Apple will turn it on eventually for non iCloud destined photos (and documents), you don't build a system like this not to use it.

We know Apple concedes to China's demands, and with another Snowden situation, the US would not hesitate to add classified documents to the scan list and identify individuals.

This system will catch no abusers, because they're not Airdropping photos to each other.

And if they're smart enough to use a VPN, they're not storing that on a phone thats logged into the cloud.

And if they're not using a VPN, they can be caught at download time.

codeecan··on Afghan women forced from banking jobs as Taliban take control
And spread the problem further? They were given many resources to improve their country and squandered it.

We know what happens when you have mass immigration from countries with low standards of living. We saw it with Gaddafi, it destabilizes regions and introduces problems with housing supply, welfare budgets and wage suppression.

codeecan··on Biking while Black: Racial bias in Oakland policing (2019)
Or maybe its because this article is full of nonsense like ".. more policing in those beats, they argue, because that’s where the crime’s happening. There’s a logical problem with this argument, because more crime will always be found where more policing is done."

You could put 1 million police in the Hamptons and theres zero chance they find more crime than 1000 police in Compton.

codeecan··on Facebook is now claiming official CDC.gov links are “False Information”
If you believe "the vaccine turned people into the Hulk", thats a mental health problem.

But when inconvenient claims, like "vaccines can cause blood clots in rare cases", often flagged as misinformation, you don't instil much confidence with the public.

And so they go out and get information from other sources.

codeecan··on YouTube takes down Xinjiang videos, forcing rights group to seek alternative

this is not true for monopolies, AT&T can't disconnect your line because they don't like what you're saying on your calls.

codeecan··on What's Inside the EU Green Pass QR Code?
I think if every time you went to a venue, they would photocopy your ID, nobody would visit that venue.

codeecan··on Stripe Saw Major Uptake of Staff Offer to Move with 10% Pay Cut
These are software engineers, average base is $183K (https://www.levels.fyi/company/Stripe/salaries/Software-Engi...), so you agree to $18.3K reduction, get a 20K bonus and save (183-50) * .09 = 12K? in taxes.

Average rent in SF is $4K? vs Austin is $2K? ... seems you'd come out ahead by ~24K + 12K - 18.3K = $17.7K / year.

codeecan··on Wikipedia is swimming in money–why is it begging people to donate?
yes, I was misinformed, the report says there was a young child at home, but NOT that she was pregnant. The child being there is not mentioned in the wiki, my original point was wrong, but I think the bias still stands.
codeecan··on Belarus has temporarily banned most of its citizens from leaving

codeecan··on Wikipedia is swimming in money–why is it begging people to donate?
In the https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_Floyd article, they mention an event where he "held a pistol to a woman's stomach", but leave out that she was pregnant so it doesn't look as bad.

Example 2, there was two mass shooting in March:

In the Boulder shooting, all victims where white and the shooter was targeting white people but they don't mention any of that.

In the Atlanta shootings, the article goes out of its way to mention 6 of 8 victims where asian (asian-hate narrative). In reality, many spa owners are asian.

Theres is definitely a bias in their editing.

codeecan··on U.S. Backs 15% Global Minimum Tax to Curb Profit Shifting Overseas
If they would just close the loop holes that allow things like having Apple, setup a subsidiary that licenses its own stuff back to itself so it can move profits around the world ... you'd solve this problem.

Make a rule, if you own >50% of a company, you can't buy trademarks, patents, whatever from yourself.

codeecan··on Can fake news detection be accountable? [pdf]
> reliable news collected from the New York Times and the Guardian over approximately the same period

Theres your first problem (https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/new-york-times-quietly-upd...), there is no authority on what is fake and what is reliable and you'll never get those two groups to agree.

codeecan··on Evidence from leaked account data on how elites use offshore banking [pdf]
I guess my point is those $400K+ people will have more incentive to avoid the taxes, and when theres a shortfall ... the fed will move to taxing the next group down $400K -> 200K -> 100K -> 50K, etc.

We should put effort into compliance, instead of increases.

codeecan··on Evidence from leaked account data on how elites use offshore banking [pdf]
"Restructure their wealth" poor phrase. Income isn't only salary, you're getting stocks/options. Consultants, not available to the middle class, can optimize your income.

CoL increase maybe not a problem, but its still an increase, if you're trying to tax the rich, you've hit the wrong target.

After a certain rate, as taxes rise, revenue falls. Feds keep spending, when they realize projected income will fall short, the goal line moves from 400K to 200K, then 100K, etc.

We should lower taxes and close the 1000's of loopholes, I would bet revenue goes up.

And I learned a new word today, "wanton"!

codeecan··on Evidence from leaked account data on how elites use offshore banking [pdf]
This is the best lie ever told, "don't worry, these taxes wont affect YOU!". Every new tax inevitably falls onto the middle class, because they can't hire people to restructure their wealth and the poor pay no taxes.

Lower taxes makes it less expensive for the rich to pay the government.

Look at housing and food costs to see how the middle class are affected, they don't get welfare, social housing, or food stamps.

codeecan··on Canadian government proposes website-blocking system for piracy websites
Heres an article from Feb 2020 (last year) were Guilbeault was backtracking after a report came out that the government wanted to issue licenses for content creators.

https://www.thestar.com/politics/federal/2020/02/03/liberals...

> Asked if the government would block foreign websites like Breitbart News, the New York Times ... if they failed to comply ... Guilbeault said no one has said sites should be blocked in Canada but he added, “Frankly, I’m not sure I see what the big deal is.”

These are the people you're dealing with, they don't see any issue with this type of censorship. Authoritarian regimes don't happen at once, they grow over time.

codeecan··on Canadian government proposes website-blocking system for piracy websites
People should understand, Canada's heritage minister (Guilbeault) has been trying to implement an online blocking system for a while now.

The current government (Liberals) have shut down parliament, during covid, only to prevent investigations into their WE charity corruption.

When a 3rd party candidate Maxime Bernier attempted his own party ... the media by law had to give him equal air time, but his reach was censored (ex: they set his youtube videos to unlisted).

The "Rebel Media" a right wing news org was prevented from entering a federal debate. They had to get an 11th hour injunction to be let in, and even after, the Liberal leader (Trudeau) refused to answer any questions.

This will be used to silence political dissidence, and "hate speech" law violators.
